A slat for a rolling shutter is provided that is formed as a single walled, continuous bent sheet. The slat includes a body having a hook-shaped engaging track at a first end, and a receiving track at the second end comprising a guard member and a hook-shaped lip member that form a pocket for receiving the engaging track of another slat. The guard member includes a portion of the sheet that is bent over on itself. The lip member extends from the guard member, and is spaced apart from the guard member to define an aperture that is sized and shaped to receive the engaging track of the other slat.

Rolling shutter slat

A security device for reinforcing a structure such as a door against cutting or other forms of attack, comprises a hollow casing with an interior space, and first and second rod assemblies positioned in the interior space under compression. The first rod assembly comprises a first rod and a first spring, and the second rod assembly comprises a second rod and a second spring. The first and second rod assemblies are parallel, and the first and second springs do not overlap. The first and second rods only have point contact with the casing.

Security door system

A base slat pry stopper, such as a base slat locking bracket, for locking a rolling shutter curtain covering an opening of a structure is disclosed. The base slat pry stopper may include a bracket base plate mounted to an opening bottom wall on an interior side of the shutter curtain, and a base slat engagement portion extending upward from the bracket base plate and above a top surface of the opening bottom wall. When the shutter curtain is unrolled to cover the opening, the base slat engagement portion engages the base slat to prevent the base slat from deflecting upward away from the opening bottom wall when a force applied from an exterior side of the shutter curtain causes the base slat to deflect toward the interior side of the structure and the shutter curtain. The base slat pry stopper may be permanently or removably installed.

Base slat pry stopper

A slat for use in a rolling shutter is provided. The slat comprises a hooking track located at a first edge of a body and a receiving track located at a second edge of the body. Illustratively, the hooking track has a hook-shaped profile, and the receiving track comprises a lip member and a guard member defining a space adapted to receive therein an engaging track of an adjacent slat. The hooking track and the receiving track are designed to minimize the space required for the rolling shutter to be retracted around a spindle.

Shutter slat

An improvement in a rolling shutter assembly for covering an opening of a structure defined by a top wall, a bottom wall and oppositely disposed side walls. The rolling shutter assembly includes a shutter housing, a shutter support member rotatably disposed within the shutter housing, a shutter coupled to the shutter support member, the shutter comprising a plurality of individual slats and a plurality of hinges interconnecting the slats, and a pair of side tracks. The shutter rolls between a rolled position wherein the shutter is rolled onto the shutter support member and an unrolled position wherein the shutter covers the opening and the ends of the slats are disposed within the channels of the corresponding side tracks. The improvement comprises a support frame having top, bottom and side rails mounted to the walls defining the opening with the side tracks each mounted to a corresponding one of the side rails of the support frame. The support frame reduces or eliminates the transmission of torsion loads from the shutter to the framing elements of the walls during positive and negative pressure conditions.

Unitized structural frame

A slat for use in a rolling shutter is provided. The slat comprises a engaging track located at a first edge of a body and a receiving track located at a second edge of the body. Illustratively, the engaging track has a hook-shaped profile, and the receiving track comprises a lip member and a guard member defining a space adapted to receive therein an engaging track of an adjacent slat. The engaging track and the receiving track are designed to minimize the space required for the rolling shutter to be retracted around a spindle.

Shutter slat and compact shutter assembly

A hinge assembly connecting adjacent panels of an accordion shutter includes a hinge member having a pair of curved arms and a pair of panel connection members each having a pivot shaft. The pivot shafts are received within the corresponding curved arms and retained for rotation therein with the tips of the curved arms received in arm receiving channels of the panel connection members. The adjacent panels may be oriented at an angle of less than 180&#xb0; with respect to each other when both panel connection members are rotated to positions wherein the tips of curved arms are engaged by the closed ends of the arm receiving channels. The base of the hinge member also has a pair of shoulders, and the adjacent panels are oriented approximately parallel when the panel connection members are rotated to positions wherein the panel connection members are engaged by the shoulders.

Accordion shutter hinge assembly

An end retention system for a rolling shutter system is provided. The end retention system comprises a fastener that has a head and a shaft, a washer and a spacer. The aperture of the washer is greater than that of the shaft. The shaft is configured for insertion into a shutter slat. A guide track is provided with retention fins spaced apart a distance that is less than the outer diameter of the washer. The guide may include a channel partially bounded by the retention fins and having a width that is greater than the outer diameter of the washer. The washer is located in the channel, and is retained near the slat by the head of and the fastener. An end retention system may have a rigid spacer, or a compressible spacer that is a resilient member located between the head of the fastener and the washer. An arrangement of rigid and compressible spacers in a curtain assembly allows the end retention systems in a curtain to have the same degree of horizontal slip, yet prevents the washers from interfering with one another when the curtain is in a rolled position.

Shutter slat end retention system

The present invention is directed to a rolling protective shutter having an improved stopping mechanism that prevents the shutter from completely rolling up onto the shutter support member, and that is hidden within the shutter housing or the side tracks. The stopping mechanism may include a limit switch operatively connected to a drive motor to detect a disposition of the base slat of the shutter curtain proximate the shutter housing. The limit switch may actuate to turn off the drive motor at an appropriate position to retain the base slat within the side tracks and to prevent damage to the shutter housing due to engagement by the base slat.
