A lubricating oil base stock including one or more monoesters represented by the formula (I), (II), (III) and (IV) as defined herein. The lubricating oil base stock has a high temperature high shear (HTHS) viscosity of less than about 1.7 cP as determined by ASTM D4683, and a Noack volatility from about 15 to about 90 percent as determined by ASTM D5800. A lubricating oil containing the lubricating oil base stock including one or more monoesters represented by the formula (I), (II), (III) and (IV) as defined herein. A method for improving one or more of thermal and oxidative stability, solubility and dispersancy of polar additives, deposit control and traction control in a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil containing the lubricating oil base stock including one or more monoesters represented by the formula (I), (II), (III) and (IV) as defined herein.

Low viscosity low volatility lubricating oil base stocks and methods of use thereof

Disclosed are compositions of a major amount of alkylated aromatics compounds, in particular alkylated naphthalene and alkylated benzene, optionally combined with API Group II, Group III, Group IV and/or ethylene copolymers, showing improved thermo-oxidation performance when containing an additive combination including an alkylated or non-alkylated diarylamine and a sulfur-containing metal passivator. Particularly, the lubricating compositions include at least 55 wt % of a base oil selected from the group consisting of alkylated naphthalene, alkylated benzene and combinations thereof, and from 0 wt % to 45 wt % of another base oil component. The ratio of amine component to sulfur component in the additive combination is from 1:1 to 20:1. The compositions contain an amount of base oil other than alkylated naphthalene, alkylated benzene and API Group II, Group III, Group IV and/or ethylene copolymers of less than 10 wt % based on the total weight of the components comprising the lubricating composition.

Antioxidant combination and synthetic base oils containing the same

The lubricating composition of this invention is primarily comprised of an admixture of an API Group V base oil component and a polyolefin base oil component. In general, the blend components include at least 45 wt. % of a Group V base oil component having a kinematic viscosity of less than 20 cSt at 100&#xb0; C., and from 10 wt. % to 60 wt. % of a polyolefin base oil component having a kinematic viscosity of at least 500 cSt and not greater than 4000 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. The lubricating composition has improved efficiency and lower operating temperatures, comparable to polyalkylene glycol-based lubricant level, which provides improved machine life and seal life, relative to other lubricating compositions.

High efficiency lubricating composition

A novel lubricant composition is disclosed. In one embodiment the lubricant composition comprises in admixture: a first base stock component comprising one or more base stocks each having a viscosity of at least 40 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. and a molecular weight distribution (MWD) as a function of viscosity at least 10 percent less than algorithm: MWD=0.2223+1.0232*log (Kv at 100&#xb0; C. in cSt); and a second base stock component comprising at least one Poly-Alpha-Olefin (PAO) base stock and at least one Group III base stock, each having a viscosity less than 10 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C.

Gear oil compositions

A novel lubricant composition is disclosed. In one embodiment the lubricant composition comprises in admixture: a first base stock component comprising one or more base stocks each having a viscosity of at least 40 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. and a molecular weight distribution (MWD) as a function of viscosity at least 10 percent less than algorithm: MWD=0.2223+1.0232*log (Kv at 100&#xb0; C. in cSt); and a second base stock component comprising one or more base stocks each having a viscosity less than 10 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C.

In one embodiment a novel lubricant is disclosed. The lubricant comprises an alkylated naphthalene base stock with a viscosity of at least 2 cSt and less than 22 cSt kv100&#xb0; C., the alkylated naphthalene base stock is greater than 55 weight percent of the lubricant, a PAO base stock with at least 4 cSt and less than 250 cSt kv100&#xb0; C., the PAO base stock is at least 2 and less than 40 weight percent of the lubricant, at least 0.5 and less than 1.5 weight percent of the lubricant is an amine antioxidant additive, at least 0.5 and less than 1.5 weight percent of the lubricant is a defoamant additive, at least 0.1 and less than 0.4 weight percent of the lubricant is an alkylated rust inhibitor additive, and the lubricant has a viscosity of at least 4 cSt and less than 10 cSt kv100&#xb0; C., less than 10 ppm metals, less than 100 ppm sulfur, and a VI greater than 70.

Alkylated naphtylene base stock lubricant formulations

This invention is directed to a lubricant composition that is comprised of a continuous phase and a discontinuous phase, i.e., a two phase lubricant composition. The continuous phase and the discontinuous phase of the lubricant of this invention are oil or oil type compositions that are essentially insoluble in one another. The lubricant composition is comprised of a continuous phase base oil that is comprised of a low viscosity Group II, III, IV or GTL base stock or a blend of at least two of the Group II, III, IV and GTL base stocks, optionally including a low viscosity Group V base stock, with the continuous phase base oil having, independently, a viscosity of from 1 to 100 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. The lubricant composition is further comprised of a discontinuous phase that is comprised of an ester composition having a mean average droplet size of from 0.01 microns to 20 microns, in which the ester composition is comprised of an ester compound having no ether linkages.

Oil-in-oil compositions and methods of making

A Group IV/Group V lubricating composition providing improved antioxidation performance comprises from 5 wt. % to 40 wt. % of a Group V base oil component, such as alkylated naphthalene, at least 30 wt. % of a Group IV base oil component, such as one or more polyalphaolefin base stocks, and from 0.25 wt. % to 1.5 wt. % of a trithiophosphate-containing compound. The trithiophosphate-containing compound is preferably CHOPS. The lubricating composition includes not greater than 5 wt. % of a Group I, Group II, or Group III base oil component, and, preferably not greater than 10 ppm heavy metal component. The lubricating composition preferably has a kinematic viscosity of from 20 cSt to 1,000 cSt at 40&#xb0; C. and a viscosity index (VI) of from 130 to 200.

Lubricant formulation with high oxidation performance

A lubricant formulation and method of blending a lubricant formulation is disclosed. The lubricant formulation comprises at least two base stocks. The first base stock comprises a viscosity greater than 40 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. and a tight molecular weight distribution as a function of viscosity. The second base stock comprises a viscosity less than 10 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. The lubricant formulation provides favorable properties.

High viscosity metallocene catalyst PAO novel base stock lubricant blends

A lubricant formulation and method of blending a lubricant formulation is disclosed. The lubricant formulation comprises at least two base stocks. The first base stock comprises a viscosity greater than 135 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. and a tight molecular weight distribution as a function of viscosity. The second base stock comprises a viscosity less than 60 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. The formulation also comprises a polyol ester. The lubricant formulation provides favorable properties.

High viscosity novel base stock lubricant viscosity blends

The invention relates to industrial lubricant and grease compositions containing high viscosity index polyalphaolefins (HVI-PAO). The use of HVI-PAOs in industrial oils and greases application provides advantages in improved shear stability, wear property, foam property, energy efficiency and improved overall performance.

An additive package, lubricant formulation with the additive package and method of improving gear lubricant properties with the additive package are disclosed. A fluid blend suitable for use as a lube basestock comprises two major components: (A) a copolymer made from ethylene with one or more alpha olefins, the copolymer (i) containing not more than 50 wt % ethylene; (ii) having a number average molecular weight of from 400 to 10,000; and (iii) a molecular weight distribution &#x3c;3; and (B) a polyalphaolefin fluid or a hydroprocessed oil having a VI greater than 80.

Lubricant blend composition

A method of improving air release is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining a lubricant comprising two base stocks. The first base stock comprises a viscosity greater than 100 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. The second base stock comprises a viscosity less than 10 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. In addition, a lubricant formulation and method of blending a lubricant formulation is also disclosed. The lubricant formulation comprises at least two base stocks. At least 5 percent and no more than 90 percent of a first base stock comprising oil with a viscosity greater than 300 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C. At least 5 percent and no more than 90 percent of a second base stock comprising oil with a viscosity less than 10 cSt, Kv100&#xb0; C.

Base stock lubricant blends

A polyalkylene glycol based lubricant composition that contains specified rust inhibitors and antioxidants has lowered operating temperature and is particularly suitable for use in worm drive gearboxes. The rust inhibitors consist of an N-acylo arcosine and an imidizole while the antioxidant consists of an alkylated diphenyl amine and a hindered phenol.
