An apparatus for dispensing and agitating objects to be treated in a liquid is described in terms of the use of the apparatus in the processing of potato chips in cooking oil. The apparatus comprises an automated kettle rake (100) for use in the processing of potato chips or other objects (101) in a kettle (102) filled with cooking oil or other desired liquid (103), involving an agitation manifold (104) movably mounted above the kettle (102) and a dispersal manifold (106) positioned inside the kettle (102). The agitation manifold (104) disperses the chips or other objects by injecting fluid through at least one nozzle onto the liquid in the kettle (102) while passing over the length of the kettle (102). Optionally, the cooked chips or other objects may be swept onto a removal conveyor (110) after processing is completed.

Use of fluid to agitate articles

This disclosure relates to a device for measuring turbidity in static or dynamic streams wherein the fluid has up to 8500 ppm solids and at depth of up to 8'. The device contains a high intensity light source, means for controlling the wavelength of the transmitted light to between 550-900 nm to filter out color variables in the streams, and a very sensitive photosensor aligned with the viewing means for picking up the light transmitted through the streams.

Turbidity measuring device and method

A process for continuously monitoring a tunnel pasteurizer by observing the spray water temperatures and the time a package is in the tunnel, calculating P.U. input to each package, product cold spot, and average product temperatures in the spray zones, recording and displaying such calculated results, and storing the raw data and calculated results for recall at will in the future.

A faucet for dispensing flat malt beverage and a smooth, creamy and stable foam having a shiftable faucet shaft which in one position dispenses flat beer and in a second position provides an alternate flow path through restricted orifices which increase the velocity of the malt beverage so that it draws air into the faucet housing through orifices therein and incorporates the air into the foam to dispense a stable, creamy foam from the faucet discharge port.

A beer foaming process and apparatus in which a smooth stable foam is formed by intimately admixing a nitrogen containing gas, preferably air, by a Venturi effect in a nozzle positioned on the beer tap. The nozzle has a mixing chamber with a perforated plate at its intake end to divide the flow of beer from the keg into smaller streams of higher velocity in the mixing chamber, intake ports in the side walls of the chamber for admitting gas into the chamber, and a screen of 30 to 200 mesh at the discharge end of the nozzle to form the stable foam discharged from the chamber.

A clear viscous and gelled antiperspirant solution comprising a gell solution of an alcoholic solvent and a gelling agent for the solvent, an antiperspirant dissolved in the gel solution, and a small but effective amount of emollient. The gelled antiperspirant can be applied easily. The antiperspirant is held effectively within the smooth film formed by the gelling agent. The gelling agent is a cellulose-based derivative modified with polyoxypropylene groups and substituted with acetyl groups.

Gelled antiperspirant

This application discloses a solvent based nail polish remover comprising 85.0 to 99.5% acetone or ethyl acetate solvent and 0.5 to 15% gelling agent, preferably hydroxypropyl cellulose acetate gelling agent. The gelled remover has a viscosity of 1,000 to 10,000 centipoise and possesses little odor due to the low rate of solvent evaporation when compared to acetone alone. The consistency of the gel allows it to be packaged in a collapsible tube to avoid breakage or spillage. The process includes the steps of adding the gelling agent to the acetone or ethyl acetate solvent after the addition of the other ingredients.

Gelled nail polish remover and process of making the same

A water-resistant suntan gel comprising an alcoholic solvent, a sunscreen agent, emollients, a selected acid which enhances the binding ability of the gel film to the skin and a gelling agent for the solvent. The composition prevents sun damage to the skin and promotes an even tan. The composition forms a film on the skin, which film is water insoluble yet easily removable.

Sunscreen gel

An overprint lacquer comprising a solvent, a resin, a plasticizer, and a gelling agent. The gelling agent is hydroxypropylcellulose acetate. The coatings of this gel-containing lacquer show improved adhesive characteristics and improved durability when compared with conventional overprint lacquers that have higher nitrocellulose content. Also, the viscosity of the lacquer is more readily controllable due to the presence of the gelling agent.

Gelled lacquer

This disclosure relates to the production of methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose ethers having a degree of molar substitution (M.S.) of greater than 2. The methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose ethers are prepared at low cost under mild conditions and are particularly useful in gelling organic solvents having a solubility parameter of 8 - 16. They also have compatibility for mixtures of organic solvents and water and are helpful in gelling such solutions when the percentage of water in such mixtures is up to about 60%.

Methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose ethers

A gelled perfume formulation comprising conventional perfume oil or a commercial perfume composition and a polymeric carbohydrate derivative which acts as the gelling agent. The gelled formulation is applied on the skin as a smooth thin film. The composition possesses aesthetically pleasing clarity and enduring fragrance. This perfume can be conveniently transported and easily dispensed.

Hydroxypropyl starch acetate having a degree of molecular substitution of hydroxypropyl radicals of about 3 to about 6 and a degree of substitution of acetyl groups of about 0.5 to about 0.9. The gum is dispersible in cold water, has good elasticity, excellent mouth feel, and excellent chewing quality.

This application involves a process of making chewing gum base which is basically hydroxypropyl starch acetate. This process involves preparation of the hydroxypropyl starch acetate gum and separation and purification of the gum from an emulsion state.
