A keypad module for use with an electronic device has a first side with a first set of keys and a second side having a second set of keys, so that one set of keys at a time can be exposed for the user. The keypad module is movable relative to the electronic device between a first position at which the first set of keys are exposed to the user and a second position at which the second set of keys are exposed to the user.

A selective call receiver assembly (10) comprises a front housing (14) having a plurality of apertures (15 & 16) and a multiplanar functional keypad (20), wherein the keypad has a first set of keys (23) and a second set of keys (22) residing on a first plane (30) and a third set of keys (21) residing on a second plane (28), the first, second, and third set of keys being integrally formed on one keypad and at least a portion of the first and third set of keys protruding through the plurality of apertures of the front housing when mounted within the front housing.

A display apparatus (100) having improved impact resistant mechanical qualities includes a display (102) and a mechanically coupled support bezel (110). The support bezel (110) includes peripheral walls (112) to form an aperture (114) and cantilevered clips (118) integral to the peripheral walls (112) for holding the display (102).

A microstrip antenna (10) comprises a planar antenna radiating element (12) having at least a first major surface and a ground plane having a first major surface (16), a second major surface (18), and a third major surface (20) substantially parallel to each other. A dielectric material (14) is positioned between the planar antenna radiating element and the ground plane. The microstrip antenna further includes a first gap (36) between the first major surface (18) of the ground plane and the second major surface (16) of the ground plane and a second gap (72) between the second major surface (16) of the ground plane and the third major surface (20) of the ground plane, wherein the first and second gaps create an increased impedance bandwidth and a lower operating frequency antenna.

An electrical interface (210) for an electronic device (200) includes an integral connector portion (215). The connector portion (215) has protected connector contacts (220) which provide an electrical signal path to the internal circuitry of the device. The electrical interface (210) has a contact surface (112) disposed proximate to the connector portion (215) and interface contacts (117) electrically decoupled from the connector contacts (220). The contact surface (112) is responsive to a mechanical force, to electrically couple at least one of the interface contacts (117) to at least one of the connector contacts (220).

Briefly, according to the invention, a microphone apparatus (100) for converting sound waves to electrical signals is described. The microphone apparatus (100) includes a switch (118) for initiating the occurrence of an event. The switch (118) being substantially covered by a cap (102). The microphone apparatus (100) also includes a microphone port (114) disposed substantially behind the cap (102), thus minimizing the obstruction of the microphone port (114).

An electrical contact assembly (10) comprises a housing having a bottom portion (26) and a top portion (24), the top portion having a first inverted wall section (29) and a second inverted wall section (28), the housing having at least one aperture (31 and 32), the aperture extending from the bottom of the first inverted wall section to the bottom of the second inverted wall section. The assembly further comprises a substrate (20) within the housing having at least one contact area (22), and a contact finger (11) for placement in the housing aperture, the contact finger having at least a first portion (12), a second portion (14) and a third portion (16). The first portion protrudes below the aperture and contacts the contact area (22) on the substrate. The second portion (14) clips on to opposing walls of the second inverted wall (28) and the third portion (16) protrudes from the aperture (31) forming an external contact area.
