A method for high speed spin winding a coil on a continuous lamination core. A two piece or hinged bobbin having two flanges is placed around a leg of the transformer core and snapped together. Both flanges include an outwardly facing surface which defines a concentric groove. One flange includes passages for receiving printed circuit board terminating pins which are installed prior to winding the coil. The other flange has a circumferential gear located in its outwardly facing surface. The core with bobbin and terminating pins installed is placed into a spin winding fixture. A bobbin bearing having a bearing surface including a circumferential ridge is placed adjacent the outwardly facing surfaces of the two flanges such that the circumferential ridges are partially received within the concentric grooves of the outwardly facing surfaces of the two flanges. A wire feeder terminates the leading end of the coil wire on one of the terminating pins. A drive gear engages the circumferential gear on the flange and rotates the bobbin at high speed drawing wire from the wire feeder. The wire feeder moves back and forth between the two flanges to uniformly wind the coil wire on the bobbin. The wire feeder terminates the trailing end of the coil wire on the other terminating pin and then cut the wire off. The terminating pins are pressed further into the flange until the desired length for printed circuit board connection extends outwardly from the opposite side of the flange.

Method for high speed spin winding of a coil about a continuous

A method of assembling a three phase current transformer for printed circuit board installation. Three current transformers, each having a spin wound coil positioned about one leg of an unassembled continuous lamination core, are placed side-by-side in a transformer carrier such that two parallel core legs of the center transformer overlap the adjacent core legs of the two outside transformers and further such that printed circuit board terminal pins attached to the coils pass through stand-off sleeves formed from the transformer carrier. Rivets are placed through holes in the laminations of the overlapped core legs and in the transformer carrier thereby simultaneously riveting the three transformer cores and the transformer carrier together making a three phase transformer assembly.

Method for assembling a three-phase current transformer

A bearing for maintaining a bobbin in relative position about a transformer core leg during the winding of a coil on the bobbin. The bearing is movable along the core leg such that a bearing surface of the bearing is positioned adjacent to but not touching each of two outwardly facing surfaces of two spaced apart flanges of the bobbin. The bearing surface is highly polished to reduce friction. The bearing surface preferably includes a circumferential ridge centered about the axis of the transformer core leg on which the bobbin is positioned. The outwardly facing surfaces of the two flanges each include a concentric groove shaped to complement the circumferential ridges of the bearing surfaces. When the bearing is in position the circumferential ridges are partially received within the concentric groove such that a small gap is maintained between the bearing surfaces and the outwardly facing surfaces. The bearing surface can also include ports for exhausting low pressure air into the space between the bearing surface and the outside surface of the bobbin flange. The low pressure air cools the bearing surface and acts as a cushion between the bearing and the bobbin flanges.

The low dissipation compact circuit breaker of the present invention selectively conducts breaker current in a circuit to be protected. The compact circuit breaker is in an enclosure surrounding at least a stationary contact and a moveable contact. This moving contact selectively assumes one of two bistable states, a contiguous closed state or a noncontiguous open state. A rotary operator including rotary members and a contact lever train selectively causes the stationary contact and the moveable contact to assume either a closed or an open state. A single solenoid for sensing breaker current in each phase causes the rotary operator to move the contacts from a closed state to an open state. Additionally, the solenoid for a faulted phase directly acts on a solenoid bell crank to cause the contact to begin to assume an open state in a trip operation, if breaker current reaches a preselected trip value in the faulted phase. The rotary operator causes all contacts to move from a closed to an open position by initiating a trip operation in the contact lever trains.

Compact circuit breaker

A low cost electromagnet assembly for a relay. The assembly includes an I-shaped stationary magnet that extends through a passage in a magnet coil and a U-shaped armature assembly with the armature assembly. The armature assembly includes a molded armature guide having projections on a rear wall of the guide arranged to actuate a plurality of switch plungers, side walls extending from the rear wall defining a cavity and an opening in the rear wall exposing a portion of the cavity at the rear wall side of the guide. The assembly also includes the U-shaped armature having a body portion positioned in the cavity and an elastomeric pad position between the armature body portion and the rear wall and a conical spring between the body and guide for absorbing shock created when the electromagnet is deenergized.

Armature assembly for machine tool relay

A solid state relay structure for use with different alternating current motors having a range of full load current and service factor ratings. The relay includes a rectangular housing and bores extending through the housing through which conductors to the motor are passed. The rear end of the housing is spaced from the panel on which the relay is mounted so the conductors may be looped through the bores when portions of the looped conductors are passed in the space between the rear end of the relay and the panel. The solid state components of the relay are encapsulated in the interior of the housing and are connected to switches, terminals, and a light emitting diode located at the front of the housing so the relay may be easily programmed for use with motors having different ratings. The terminals and operating and test instructions, located at the front end of the relay, provide a convenient arrangement for wiring the relay in its control circuit and information to program the relay.

Over-current protective apparatus for a power circuit

A self-powered solid state overload relay circuit having current transformers energized by conductors supplying current to a multiphase alternating current motor. The transformers have secondary windings connected to charge a capacitor with a voltage indicative of the magnitude of the maximum current in the motor windings. The circuit includes presetable impedance circuits which permit the circuit to be easily programmed to respond to a range of abnormal motor currents in the winding in motors of varying size and service factor ratings, components which are arranged to duplicate the operation of melting alloy and bimetal type overload relays in an automatic or in a trip-free manual reset mode, a light emitting device which visually indicates when the relay is in a tripped state, and components which cause the relay to be insensitive to ambient temperature variations.
