A method of manufacturing a subassembly for an exhaust treatment device includes providing a metal sheet including first and second apertures having respective first and second sizes, and a one-piece pipe including first and second linear portions having respective third and fourth sizes. The method further includes defining the first size based on a first difference between the first size and the third size being less than or equal to a predetermined value, and defining the second size based on manufacturing tolerances of the pipe to assure that the second linear portion will pass through the second aperture while the first linear portion passes through the first aperture. The method further includes fixing the first linear portion to the sheet, expanding the second linear portion from the fourth size to an enlarged size less than or equal to the predetermined value, and fixing the second linear portion to the sheet.

Pipe and metal sheet subassembly for an exhaust treatment device

A mixer for mixing an exhaust flow in an exhaust pipe includes a tubular housing having a first end, a second end and a center portion positioned between the ends. The center portion has a reduced size in relation to at least one of the first and second ends. The housing includes circumferentially spaced apart apertures extending through the center portion. A mixing element includes a body having a first peripheral portion and a second peripheral portion. The first peripheral portion is fixed to the center portion at a location adjacent to one of the apertures. The second peripheral portion is fixed to the center portion at a location adjacent to another one of the apertures.

Exhaust gas flow mixer

A desmodromic valve system which provides direct bidirectional displacement of a valve stem of an internal combustion engine without the aid of a rocker arm, utilizing a semirigid basket operating in conjunction with a plurality of cams for each valve. The basket is disposed about the camshaft of the engine and secured to the valve stem by an integral retainer on a bottom portion of the basket, and is constrained to motion along the valve stem axis. The basket has a pair of downwardly oriented cam followers in the upper portion thereof, spaced apart from the valve stem axis. A central cam and a parallel pair of side cams are fixedly mounted on the camshaft so as to rotate therewith, the cams substantially surrounded by the basket and cooperating therewith to provide reciprocating valve action with positive bidirectional drive. The central cam is aligned with the valve stem axis, and the side cams are spaced apart from the valve stem axis, parallel to the central cam and respectively aligned with the cam followers. During a first part of a valve cycle, the central cam pushes the valve stem down so as to positively open the associated valve, and the valve stem pulls said basket down with it via the retainer. During a second part of the valve cycle, the side cams push the basket up via their respective cam followers and thereby cause the basket to pull the valve stem so as to positively close the valve.

Rockerless desmodromic valve system

A unitary cam follower and valve preload spring for a desmodromic valve mechanism having opening and closing cams mounted in parallel on an overhead camshaft so as to facilitate positive bidirectional drive of a valve. The device comprises a generally tubular spring member of oblong transverse cross-section, a shaped extension spring, preferably a band or basket. The spring member is configured to be nonrotatably mounted on the camshaft with its longitudinal axis parallel to the camshaft axis and its major axis aligned with the valve stem axis, substantially surrounding the opening and closing cams circumferentially and engaging the valve stem and closing cam so as to pull the valve stem in response to an upward force applied to the upper portion of the spring member by the closing cam. The spring member is further configured to elongate along its major axis in response to tension applied thereto during assembly so as to preload the valve stem, and it has an effective spring rate which varies depending on conditions.

Unitary cam follower and valve preload spring for a desmodromic valve mechanism

A mixer for mixing an exhaust flow with a fluid injected into an exhaust pipe includes a tubular housing having a reduced size center portion positioned between first and second ends. The housing includes circumferentially spaced apart apertures extending through the center portion. A first mixing element includes a first peripheral portion positioned within one of the apertures and a second peripheral portion positioned within another one of the apertures. A second mixing element includes third and fourth peripheral portions positioned within other apertures of the housing.

A method of manufacturing an optimized sheet metal () of a zirconium based alloy is described, which optimized sheet metal () defines a sheet plane (BA). The method comprises the steps of providing a sheet metal () of a zirconium based. alloy, subjecting the sheet metal () to at least a preparing cold rolling and a final cold rolling, wherein the preparing cold rolling and the final cold rolling are both performed in a common rolling direction, and heat treating the sheet metal () between the preparing cold rolling and the final cold rolling so that the zirconium based alloy is partially re-crystallized. A method of manufacturing a spacer grid using an optimized sheet metal () according to the invention is also described.

A method for manufacturing a sheet metal for use in a boiling water nuclear reactor and such a sheet metal. The method includes providing a material of a zirconium alloy that includes zirconium, and whose main alloying materials include niobium. The material is annealed so that essentially all niobium containing secondary phase particles are transformed to &#x3b2;-niobium particles.

Fuel box in a boiling water nuclear reactor

A display cabinet which refrigerates containers of flowers by forcing a flow of cold air into holes in the bottom of each container and up through the flowers stored therein. The containers of flowers are inserted into a plurality of openings in a product support stand which rests on top of a refrigerated area. The openings which do not have containers of flowers inserted therein are biased to a closed position. The flow of cold air is adjusted according to the number of containers inserted into the product support stand.
