Devices, methods and products are described that provide information handling devices with touch-based reflective display. One aspect provides an information handling device including one or more processors; a display device; and a touchable control area having one or more configurable areas, said one or more configurable areas providing both reflective display and accepting touch-based input; wherein said touchable control area is disposed in place of at least a portion of a standard component of said information handling device, other than said display device, and provides functionality equivalent thereto in one or more configurations. Other embodiments are described.

A system can include a base device and a satellite device configured to operate in an attached state and to operate in a detached state; circuitry that responds to a transition from the detached state to the attached state by establishing a wired communication session between the base device and the satellite device; circuitry that responds to a transition from the attached state to the detached state by establishing a wireless communication session between the base device and the satellite device; and circuitry that communicates information, via an established wired communication session in the attached state and via an established wireless communication session in the detached state, from the base device to the satellite device for rendering the communicated information to a display of the satellite device. An apparatus can include a left optical trackpad that, responsive to object sensing, outputs a left optical trackpad signal; a right optical trackpad that, responsive to object sensing, outputs a right optical trackpad signal; assignment circuitry that assigns a status to the optical trackpads that is a right hand dominant status or a left hand dominant status; and control circuitry that outputs one or more commands based at least in part on the status and at least one of the right optical trackpad signal and the left optical trackpad signal.

The central display is viewable concurrently by users of each secondary display.

One aspect includes a method including: providing a primary operating environment and a secondary operating environment in an information handling device; ascertaining a trigger event for switching between the primary operating environment and the secondary operating environment; providing power state transitioning responsive to the trigger event; and placing one of the primary operating environment and the secondary operating environment in a working state while one of the primary operating environment and the secondary operating environment is in a sleeping state. Coordinating power states in a hybrid information handling device

An electronic device receives a stop position tag that indicates a stop position within first electronic content which is a first sensory type. The electronic device identifies a start position within second electronic content using the stop position tag. The second electronic content is a second sensory type that is different than the first sensory type. In turn, the electronic device executes the second electronic content at the identified start position. In one embodiment, the first sensory type is an auditory sensory type and the second sensory type is an image sensory type.

Systems, methods and products directed toward switching device components between multiple operating environments available on an information handling device. One aspect includes switching operation of an information handling device between at least two operating environments responsive to a trigger event, the at least two operating environments comprising a primary and a secondary operating environment; and switching one or more device components from one of the at least two operating environments to the other of the at least two operating environments via a virtual switch operation facilitated by one or more embedded controllers disposed within the information handling device responsive to switching between the at least two operating environments. An approach is provided to direct data to different applications based upon the amount of pressure applied by a user of a pressure sensitive touch-enabled screen. In this approach, a touch input is received at a location of the pressure sensitive touch-enabled screen. The various applications currently being displayed at the location are identified along with the physical pressure level (amount of pressure applied) at the location on the pressure sensitive touch-enabled screen. One of the applications running on the device is selected based on the amount of pressure applied and the touch-based input provided by the user is directed to the selected application.

Embodiments provisioning various electronic devices with optical user input devices having one or more optical sensors are described. Embodiments broadly contemplate expanding the functionality of current user input devices through use of a variety of optical sensors in a variety of configurations, as described further herein.

An apparatus includes sensors configured to sense optical information, assignment circuitry configured to assign a dominant status to one of the sensors and a nondominant status to another one of the sensors and control circuitry configured to output one or more commands based on sensed optical information and status. A method includes sensing a local environmental condition, receiving an electronic communication message, sensing a local microphone signal level associated with the communication message, and issuing a notification if the local microphone signal level exceeds a threshold associated with the local environmental condition. In such a method, an electronic communication may be a telephone call, a video call, a text message, a message communicated via a short message service, a message communicated via a multimedia message service or other type of message. Various other apparatuses, systems, methods, etc., are also disclosed.

Manners reminder

A device and method include detecting signal strength received at a mobile cellular communication device. A dropped call is detected between the device and another device as a function of detected signal strength. The dropped call is reconnected when detected signal strength reaches a selected first threshold.
