A multi-speed transmission includes a housing; an input member and an output member; four planetary gear trains including a first planetary gear train, a second planetary gear train, a third planetary gear train and a fourth planetary gear train, wherein each of the planetary gear trains includes a ring gear, a planetary carrier and a sun gear; and six control elements. Each of the six control elements is operatively connected to at least one of the planetary gear trains and selectively engageable to produce a set of different speeds between the input member and the output member. The set of different speeds includes eight forward speeds and two reverse speeds.

Multi speed transmission

A multi-speed transmission may include an input member and an output member disposed in a housing. A first planetary gear set, a second planetary gear set, a third planetary gear set, and a fourth planetary gear set may be disposed within the housing, each planetary gear set including a sun gear, a planet carrier, and a ring gear. Six control elements may be operably coupled to each of the planetary gear sets and selectively engagable to create a set of different gear ratios between the input member and the output member. The set of different gear ratios may include at least ten forward gear ratios and at least one reverse gear ratio.

Configuration for compact five speed planetary transmission

A compact five-speed transmission planetary gear train includes a first, second, third, and fourth planetary gear sets between an input and an output as well as first, second, third, and fourth brakes and first and second clutches. The first, second, third and fourth brakes and first and second clutches are selectively actuatable to provide five different forward speeds and a four different reverse speeds between the input and the output. The compact transmission also includes a first brake, second brake, third brake, fourth brake, first clutch, and second clutch associated with the planetary gear train, the first brake, second brake, third brake, fourth brake, first clutch, and second clutch being configured such that setting each forward and reverse speed of the compact transmission is accomplished via actuation of two of the first brake, second brake, third brake, fourth brake, first clutch, and second clutch.

A multi-speed transmission may include an input member and an output member disposed in a housing. A first planetary gear set, a second planetary gear set, a third planetary gear set, and a fourth planetary gear set may also be disposed in the housing, each planetary gear set including a sun gear, a planet carrier, and a ring gear. Six control elements may be operably coupled to the planetary gear sets and selectively engageable to create a set of different gear ratios between the input member and the output member, the set of different gear ratios including at least nine forward gear ratios and at least two reverse gear ratios.

The transmission includes a housing, input and output shafts, and four planetary gear trains each having at least three members including a ring gear, at least one carrier, and a sun gear. The input and output shafts are is continuously interconnected with gear(s) and/or carrier(s). Links continuously interconnect the carrier(s) and/or gears between gear trains. The six torque-transmitting mechanisms are engagable in combinations of two to establish at least seven forward speed ratios and at least one reverse speed ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft.

Compact planetary transmission

A gear train includes a first planetary gear set including a first sun gear, a first ring gear, and a first carrier and a second planetary gear set including a second sun gear, a second ring gear, and second carrier. The gear train also includes a first clutch configured to selectively connect the first carrier with the second carrier and a second clutch configured to selectively connect the first sun gear with the second sun gear. The gear train also includes a first brake configured to selectively fix the first sun gear, a second brake configured to selectively fix the second sun gear, and a third brake configured to selectively fix the first carrier.
