A method for fabricating a flexographic printing plate for printing image patterns including one or more uniform image regions includes defining a repeating tile having a plurality of different feature shapes positioned in a pattern of pseudo-random feature locations. A plate formation pattern corresponding to the image pattern is determined wherein the repeating tile is applied in a tiled arrangement to the uniform image regions. The plate formation pattern is used to form a flexographic printing plate, wherein regions of the flexographic printing plate corresponding to the uniform image regions of the image pattern include a pattern of raised features in positions corresponding to the feature positions in the repeating tile.

A method for fabricating a flexographic printing plate for printing image patterns including one or more uniform image regions includes defining a repeating tile having a pattern of feature shapes positioned at pseudo-random feature locations. A printed electrical device is formed using a flexographic printing system. A flexographic printing plate having a pattern of raised features includes an active region having a plurality of parallel traces separated by a trace spacing of between 5-40 microns that are used to form active micro-traces that provide an electrical function, and an inactive region adjacent to the active region having one or more protective features that are used to form electrically-inactive features. The protective features are separated from an outermost trace of the plurality of traces by a gap distance of between 60% and 250% of the trace spacing. The flexographic printing plate is used to transfer ink from an anilox roller to a substrate to provide a printed pattern corresponding to the pattern of raised features on the flexographic printing plate.

A first polymer latex and second polymer latex can be mixed to form a dried primer layer on a substrate to adhere patterned materials having fine lines. The first polymer latex comprises a first polymer and a first surfactant such that a dried coating of the first polymer latex has a surface polarity of at least 50%. The second polymer latex comprises a second polymer and a second surfactant such that a dried coating of the second polymer latex has a surface polarity of less than or equal to 27%. Moreover, a dried coating of the mixture has a surface polarity of at least 15% and up to and including 50%. Primed substrates are useful for preparing electrically-conductive articles having electrically-conductive fine lines directly on a dried primer layer by applying a patterned material to a substrate. Such articles can be used as touch screen displays in various electronic devices.

A thermal dye image receiver element has a substrate comprising a voided compliant layer and metalized layer. Disposed on the metalized layer is an opacifying layer that includes an opacifying agent and a dye receiving layer. This thermal dye image receiver element can be a duplex element with image receiving layers on both sides of the substrate, and it can be used in association with a thermal donor element to provide a thermal image on either or opposing sides of the receiver element. The metalized layer provides increased specular reflectance under resulting thermal dye images.

In one aspect a method for operating a printer is provided in which a toner image is formed on a receiver using a toner having a polymeric binder and a wax. A contact surface is used to apply heat and pressure to heat the toner at least to a glass transition temperature for the toner and to heat the wax to at least an incorporated melting temperature. The toner image is allowed to cool below a glass transition temperature of the toner to form a fused toner image having a viewing surface and the wax is allowed to cool below the melting temperature for the wax so that after cooling the viewing surface has first portions with wax globules and second portions without wax globules. The viewing surface is wiped to move at least some of the wax from the wax globules in the first portions onto the second portions.

Printers are provided having wax management systems. In one aspect, a printer has a print engine provides a toner image on a receiver using a toner having a binder polymer and a wax and a fuser having a contact surface that heats the toner at least to a glass transition temperature for the toner and the wax at least to an incorporated melting temperature to cause at least some of the wax to separate from the toner. A controller allows the toner image to cool to form a fused toner image having a viewing surface and the wax to cool to form first portions of the viewing surface with wax globules and second portions without wax globules. A wiping system wipes the viewing surface to move at least some of the wax from the wax globules onto the second portion when the toner image and wax are cooled.

Wax management systems are provided. In one aspect a wax management system has print positioning system having an input to receive a fused toner print having a toner image with a viewing surface that has first portions with wax globules and second portions without wax globules and a print positioning apparatus that arranges the print for wiping by a wiping system having a wiping surface that wipes the viewing surface to move at least some of the wax from the wax globules onto the second portion. A wax management device controller determines when fused toner print is at a temperature where the toner image is below a glass transition temperature of the toner and the wax is below a melting temperature for the wax and to position the print for wiping. The controller causes the wiping system to wipe the print after the controller makes the determination.

A thermal dye image receiver element has, in order, a cellulosic raw base support, an antistatic subbing layer, and a thermal dye receiving layer. The cellulosic raw base support has an internal electrical resistance (WER) that is at least 1 log ohm/square greater than the surface electrical resistance (SER) of the antistatic subbing layer. This arrangement of antistatic properties overcomes a static problem in the thermal dye image receiver elements by properly balancing the conductivity between the two antistatic locations.
