A well cleanup and actuation tool including a cleanup portion of the tool configured to direct flowing fluid into an annular space radially outwardly of the tool and in a downhole direction, while accepting return fluid and entrained debris through a pathway therein, an actuation configuration connected to the cleanup portion, the actuation configuration comprising a profile thereon and a flow passage that bypasses the profile. A method for cleaning and actuating in a borehole, including conveying fluid through the tool, cleaning a target area with the fluid, and bypassing the profile of the actuation section of the tool with the fluid. A wellbore system, including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string in the borehole, and a cleanup and actuation tool disposed within or as a part of the string.

A mechanical jar including a housing, a piston disposed in the housing and responsive to applied fluid pressure to move in a first direction relative to the housing, a biasing arrangement disposed in the housing and configured to bias the piston in a second direction opposite the first direction, and a restraint configured to prevent movement of the piston in the second direction until a threshold force is applied to the restraint by the piston, whereafter the piston suddenly moves in the second direction.

Mechanical jar, method and system

A system includes a drill bit, and a tubular connected thereto. The tubular is configured to be rotated to rotate the drill bit and drill a length of a borehole and cemented in place. The tubular and the drill bit form a conduit to permit cement to be pumped through the tubular and the drill bit and into an annulus. The system also includes a collar disposed between the tubular and the drill bit. The collar includes a receptacle made from a drillable material, which has a profile that corresponds to a shape of a component deployed through the length of the tubular, and is configured to form a substantially fluid tight seal between the component and the drillable material when the component is seated in the receptacle. The collar and the component prevent backflow of the cement.

A rotating ball valve assembly includes a rotatable ball element. The rotatable ball element includes a first side portion, a second side portion, and a central passage. One of the first and second side portions includes first and second outwardly projecting pin elements. A sliding sleeve assembly includes a sliding sleeve member having a first guide track with a first force reducing profile associated with the first outwardly projecting pin element and a second guide track having a second force reducing profile associated with the second outwardly projecting pin element. The sliding sleeve member is shiftable relative to the first and second tubular members to selectively pivot the rotatable ball element between an open orientation and a closed orientation.

A cross over tool includes, a first tubular forming part of a structure having a channel formed radially through a wall thereof and having a passageway formed longitudinally through the wall. The tool includes a second tubular forming part of a tool string, the second tubular is positionable radially of the first tubular, and has a port through a wall thereof, the port is alignable with the channel. The crossover tool is configured such that while the a port is aligned with the a channel fluid can flow through an inside of the tool string radially through the a port and the a channel and back into the inside of the tool string and through the a passageway and through an annular space defined between the tool string and the structure.

A fracturing tool features spaced releasable packers with an outlet in between. The housing has relatively moving components for opening the frac port between the packers with weight set on the lower packer. Once the frac port is opened the upper packer is set and the pumping begins. The upper packer can be released so that tension can be pulled on the lower packer to close the frac port and open a through passage in the housing. In one embodiment the through passage can be located above the lower packer to a sand jet perforator to clean debris away from the lower packer if it is difficult to release the lower packer or to abrasively perforate through a tubular. The housing outlet can be below bottom packer to perform a treatment further downhole or to operate another tool. The straddle tool can be run in on coiled tubing.

An indicating tool includes a mandrel including a support, an indicator housing surrounding the mandrel, and a member movable radially with respect to the housing. The mandrel is movable longitudinally with respect to the indicator housing, and the indicator housing is at least substantially rotationally locked with respect to the mandrel. The member is engageable with an inner profile of an outer tubular in which the indicating tool is employed, and the member has a substantially helical side. The member is movable radially inward towards the mandrel when the support is longitudinally displaced from the member, and the member is blocked from movement radially inwards when the support is longitudinally aligned with the member.

Indicating apparatus, system, and method

A selective locking apparatus for an indicating tool, the selective locking apparatus includes a mandrel having a rotational collet finger receiving area including a plurality of unlocked-position tracks alternatingly arranged with a plurality of locked-position detents. A rotational collet rotatably supported on the mandrel, the rotational collet including a j-track on an outer periphery of the rotational collet, the rotational collet further including a plurality of rotational collet fingers having heads engageable within the rotational collet finger receiving area of the mandrel. An indicating collet supported on the mandrel, the indicating collet including a plurality of indicating collet fingers; and, at least one pin fixedly mounted on the indicating collet for receipt within the j-track of the rotational collet; wherein longitudinal movement of the mandrel with respect to the indicating collet cycles the rotational collet via j-track interaction and selectively places the heads of the rotational collet fingers into either the plurality of unlocked-position tracks or the plurality of locked-position detents.
