A multi-spectral variable focus illuminator. The illuminator includes a plurality of first light sources arranged in a first array, each of the first light sources capable of emitting light in a first wavelength band, and a plurality of second light sources arranged in a second array, each of the second light sources capable of emitting light in a second wavelength band different from the first wavelength band. The illuminator includes an array of lenses positioned in front of the light sources. The relative positions of the lens array and the first and second light sources are changeable such that the field illuminated by the first light sources varies in size with the relative positions of the lens array and the first light sources, and the field illuminated by the second light sources varies in size with the relative positions of the lens array and the second light sources.

Systems are disclosed for detecting an unwanted artifact in an image scanner. An exemplary system includes a treated component of the image scanner, the treated component treated such that light reflects differently from the treated component than light reflected by an image being scanned by the image scanner. A method is disclosed for capturing images, including reading image data in an image sensor from a photodetector array in the image sensor, and processing the image data in the image sensor. The method alternates between processing the image data to generate video frames and to generate portions of still images. A plurality of video frames are processed in the time it takes to process a complete still image. The video frames have a lower resolution than the still images.

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a one-time-use camera. The one-time-use camera includes an electronic digital camera system for generating digital image data representative of a captured image. A non-volatile memory is provided in communication with the electronic digital camera system for storing the digital image data. The non-volatile memory component includes a memory matrix component, the matrix memory component including a first layer of parallel conductors, a second layer of parallel conductors oriented mutually orthogonal to the first set of parallel conductors, and a functional medium disposed between the first layer and the second layer. An addressable cell in the functional medium is defined at an intersection of each first layer parallel conductor and second layer parallel conductor. Supplying electrical energy directly to the functional medium of the cell detects or changes the logical state of the cell, for reading and writing the digital image data at the matrix memory component.

One-time-use digital camera

An electronic imaging device that is focused by capturing data samples from a region of at least one photodetector while changing focus settings and analyzing the data samples to identify an optimum focus setting. The size of the regions from which the data samples are captured is reduced during focusing to reduce the amount of data to be processed.
