Heatset, textured (e.g. stuffer box textured), continuous filament, nylon carpet yarn useful for making textured carpets is disclosed. The yarn is made from nylon 66 copolymer. Textured carpets made from the yarns of the invention have improved aesthetics and/or appearance retention characteristics as compared to textured carpets made from nylon 66 carpet yarns.

Copolymeric yarns for textured carpets

Novel compounds produced by reacting 5-sulfoisophthalic acid or a salt thereof (e.g. the potassium salt) with a water soluble copper salt (e.g. cupric acetate monohydrate) are described. The compounds are effective antiozonants for polyamide fibers, particularly, when the fibers are dyed with disperse dyes. Generally, sufficient amounts of the compounds are incorporated into the fibers to provide from 10 to 100 ppm, on weight of fiber, of copper.

Polyamide fibers containing one or more of a certain class of poly(copper phosphinates) have improved resistance to color fading when dyed with disperse dyes and exposed to ozone than do corresponding fibers from which the phosphinate has been omitted.

Polyamides derived from cyclohexanebis(ethylamine) provide a class of polyamides useful in fabricating shaped articles.

Fiber-forming polyhydrazides prepared from oxalic dihydrazide, terephthalic dihydrazide, malonic dihydrazide and terephthaloyl chloride are provided. Yarns made from these polyhydrazides are useful in tire cord applications and retain greater tenacity when plied into cord than yarns made from corresponding polyhydrazides from which the malonic dihydrazide has been omitted.
