A modular case and method of forming the same, the case preferably formed from a plurality of panels, edge members and corner pieces having ribs. The panels, edge members and corner pieces are preferably connected to align the ribs, forming substantially continuous ribs capable of distributing forces over a large area of the modular case. The case is most preferably made of plastic, the connections preferably being hot-plate welds. Most preferably, the panels and edge members have a dual skin construction with internal ribs, proving for greater strength and allowing for superior structural properties including air-/water-tight integrity. Edge members are preferably formed with protuberances to allow for better base-to-lid and case-to-case engagement. Hardware attachments to the modular case can be advantageously made while distributing the force on attachment points and without compromising structural integrity.

Transport case

A pressure relief valve includes a center hub portion which extends through an aperture formed in a wall of a container. The pressure relief valve further includes a knob having an underside from which the center hub portion extends, a static cavity formed in the underside and a pressure release cavity also formed the underside. A sealing member is fixed to the underside, and encompasses the center hub portion and the static cavity.

A latch apparatus includes a release mechanism having a depending locking arm for selectively arresting the release mechanism in a locking position. The release mechanism further includes a center of gravity and an axis of rotation about which the release mechanism pivots between a release position and the locking position. The center of gravity of the release mechanism is located along the axis of rotation.

A single piece battery jaw and method and apparatus for producing the same employs a stack molding type machine with material injection from the platens. The apparatus can effectively injection mold a one-piece jar with a straight side wall or an undercut side wall. Zero draft capability is also provided. The apparatus also includes an extraction device and core stabilizers.

Method and apparatus for making a one piece battery jar

Disclosed is a light weight handle assembly adapted to transport a heavy duty container which may contain sensitive electronic components. The handle assembly of the present invention generally comprises a stationary bracket which mounts to a container wall and a movable handle pivotally connected to the bracket. The bracket is formed with an inner portion that is adapted to rotatably engage with a pair of pivoting arms extending from the movable handle so that the light weight handle may easily be assembled and disassembled. Each of the pivoting arms is formed with a movable stop member which is advantageously positioned to contact and bear against stationary stop members which are attached to or are a part of the container to which the handle is attached. The stationary stop members and movable stop members each have a substantially planar contact surface which is designed such that when the movable handle is pivoted to the lifting/operative position, the movable stop members are in contact with the at least one stationary stop member with less stress in the materials than in conventional handles. The lower stresses enable a strong handle to be made of plastic material such as polyethylene.

Lightweight handle

A battery jar for a battery cell having a plurality of plate support bridges, preferably chevron shaped, is presented. The bridges are disposed on a bottom surface of the battery jar. The bridges include a pair of legs attached at an angle such that each leg provides structural support for each other when supporting the plates of the battery cell. Advantageously, the invention provides good resistance to columnar buckling from impact loads of the plates without requiring that the bridges be made thick relative to prior art bridges. Therefore, migration of the residue from the plates (mud) is enhanced. Also, the invention reduces the indentation depth required over the prior art by providing dual bearing surfaces for the plates.

A latch is disclosed incorporating features allowing complete actuation i.e., engagement and disengagement of a latching hook on the side of the container from a latch handle on the face of the container thus allowing actuation of the latch hook even when the latch hook is itself inaccessible. The latch also features variability in the stroke of the hook and a design allowing its construction from plastic material.

An improved device and method for welding battery jar covers onto battery jars with the battery elements and terminal posts in position in the jar wherein said improvement includes means for pressing the molten bead, created between the battery jar and the battery cover during welding, flat against the cover and the jar until said molten bead solidifies.
