Methods and compositions for cleaning industrial equipment (e.g. biofuel or corn ethanol plant equipment) in place at high temperatures using acidic methane sulfonic acid compositions having a low pH.

Surfactant systems and compositions incorporating the same are disclosed for use as rinse aids on plastics and other wares. The surfactant systems and compositions include both liquid and solid formulations, along with methods of use for treating plastics and other wares. The surfactant systems and compositions provide synergistic combinations allowing lower actives in composition formulations of the plastic-compatible surfactant systems providing good sheeting, wetting and drying properties.

A highly alkaline detergent is described which includes the use of a carboxylic acid terpolymer in combination with an alkali metal hydroxide. The detergent maintains cleaning functions and also prevents hard water scaling at application temperatures, for example at temperatures of between about 145-180 degrees Fahrenheit and, for example, at a pH of 9.5 to about 13.

Stability enhancement agents for use in a solidification matrices and solid detergent compositions are described. Stability enhancement is provided by a hydratable salt, water and a carboxylic acid terpolymer forming a dimensionally stable solid compositions. Preferred carboxylic acid terpolymers include from about 40 to 90% by weight of a carboxylic acid monomer, anhydride or salt thereof, from about 4 to 40% by weight of a monomer comprising sulfo groups, and from about 4 to 40% by weight of a nonionic monomer set forth in formula (I). The stability enhancement composition for use in solid detergent compositions are preferably biodegradable and may be substantially free of phosphate and/or NTA-free and provide beneficial hard water scale control.

Provided are personal care compositions comprising a first surfactant comprising sodium lauryl sulfate and a second surfactant having a structure represented by wherein each a has a value of about 1 to about 110, b has a value of about 16 to about 70, and at least one R group is SO, and the other R group is SOor hydrogen. Also provided are methods of producing personal care compositions and methods of ameliorating skin or mucosal membrane irritation due to sodium lauryl sulfate.
