Various birdfeeder designs are provided for flowable bird feed such as seeds or nectar. In one design, the birdfeeder () has a housing including first and second receptacles (and). The receptacles (and) are intertwined to form a double helical configuration. A large number of feed ports () can be distributed across the receptacles (and) to attract a large number of birds in a small area. Partitions () within the receptacles (and) define a number of feed chambers () to supply feed at the feed ports ().

Birdfeeders with multiple feeding ports

There are generally two styles of modern bird feeders: the tubular feeder with a tubular reservoir and several perches attached to the tubular reservoir at various positions around the reservoir, and the more traditional rectangular bin style with one or two feeding stations. These bin feeders are constructed to feed only general bird seed of mixed variety and are not selectively configurable to feed a specific small seed like thistle. The disclosed bin feeder includes removable and repositionable bin sidewalls with appropriately shaped upper and lower longitudinal edges to exclusively provide appropriate openings for thistle feed along one of the longitudinal edges or an appropriate opening for generally larger seed along the other of the longitudinal edges.

A cable caddy with a portable housing stores cable reels. Each reel includes a drum coupled to end caps. Plugs inserted in the end caps are irrotatable with respect to the housing and rotatable with respect to the drum. During transport reels are stacked vertically atop one another with a plug of a first reel inserted in a plug of a second reel.

Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for attracting different types of wild birds, as chosen by a user. In one implementation, a top section is configured to engage a cap, and a bottom section positioned opposite the top section includes at least one feeding station. A supporting member extends vertically from the bottom section to the top section. The supporting member, the top section, and the bottom section forma frame. A reversible insert has an elongated body extending between a first edge and a second edge. The first edge has a plurality of ports, and the second edge one or more slots. The frame is adapted to receive the reversible insert in an orientation based on a size of the bird seed.

A resilient cable caddy comprising a portable housing for storing reels of cable that has a lower base with a hinged top forming an enclosure for the reel. A reel of cable is rotatably mounted within the interior. A handle formed by abutting base and top portions enables carrying. Each reel comprises a spool with a central axle coupled at each end to spaced apart end caps, being retained by mounting rings. The spindles have bearing rings journaled to bearing races defined in the end caps. Both spindles comprise hubs disposed within case gudgeons. A two-piece spindle has a removable hub portion fitted to an internal socket. When reels are transported they may be stacked vertically atop one another with the one piece spindle engaging the empty and exposed spindle hub socket of an upper reel. Caddies may also be opened and stacked vertically for transportation.

A birdseed dispenser and birdfeeder incorporating the same are provided. The dispenser has a base assembly mounted to a first opening formed in the sidewall of the birdseed reservoir, including a front plate having a second opening formed therein, a flange extending around the second opening and projecting away from the front plate, and an end wall supported by the flange such that the flange and end wall together define a chamber. The dispenser also includes an apertured piece received in the chamber having a first seed aperture of a first configuration and a second seed aperture of a different configuration. The apertured piece is moveable between a first orientation, which places the first seed aperture in a seed accessible state permitting birds access to the seed, and a second orientation to place the second seed aperture in the seed accessible state.

Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for harvesting water from precipitation while limiting loss due to evaporation and sublimation. In one implementation, precipitation is received on a collection surface through an opening during a precipitation event. The received precipitation is sealed on the collection surface from an outside atmosphere using at least one cover assembly in response to a triggering event concluding the receipt of the precipitation. The at least one cover assembly includes a take-up assembly adapted to extend a cover from a first cross bar to a second cross bar over at least a portion of the opening. Water harvested from the sealed precipitation is directed to a water storage device. Other implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for remote monitoring and management of water collection devices.

Implementations described and claimed herein provide systems and methods for preventing non-birds, such as squirrels, from accessing feed in a bird feeder. In one implementation, a mechanical link couples a first perch and a second perch to the roof assembly. The mechanical link may be configured to move both the first perch relative to the first feed port and the second perch relative to the second feed port upon movement of the first perch relative to the housing and/or upon movement of at least a portion of the roof assembly relative to the housing. As such, the bird feeder provides access to the feed in the bird feeder to wild birds, while preventing non-birds, such as squirrels, from accessing the feed.
