A drug delivery device () for administering a low dose of a medicament includes a housing () and a drug reservoir () disposed in the housing (). A needle () is connected to the drug reservoir (). A pressure applying member () is movably connected to the housing () and is movable between first and second positions. The pressure applying member () does not apply pressure to the drug reservoir () in the first position and applies pressure to the drug reservoir () in the second position to dispense medicament stored in the drug reservoir (). A method of administering a low dose of insulin to simulate a first-phase insulin response of a pancreas is also disclosed.

A needle changing device for use on a medication delivery device includes an engagement element that is configured to engage the medication delivery device and pierce a septum of the medication delivery device, a needle holder connected to the engagement element, the needle holder having a needle changing septum having a reservoir, the reservoir being in continuous fluid communication with the engagement element, and a plurality of needles configured to pierce the needle changing septum, wherein when the needle holder is in a first position, the plurality of needles are disengaged from the reservoir of the needle changing septum, and when the needle holder is in a second position, one of the plurality of needles enters into fluid communication with the reservoir of the needle changing septum and is partially exposed outside the needle changing device for medicament delivery.

Vial dosing systems and methods are disclosed. A vial dosing device includes a connecting body coupleable to a vial, a cannulated plunger having a proximal end coupled to the connecting body, a dose chamber adapted to slidably receive a distal end of the cannulated plunger and to expel medicament through a distal end of the dose chamber, and a plunger tip check valve coupled to the cannulated plunger and adapted for fluid flow from the cannulated plunger through the plunger tip check valve into the dose chamber.

Vial dosing systems and methods

An apparatus is disclosed for storing and changing needles for connection with a medicament delivery device, comprising an inner housing, a reservoir disposed within the inner housing, and a needle holder disposed within the inner housing, for fluidly connecting a medicament container of the medicament delivery device with the reservoir. The apparatus also includes a plurality of patient needles displaceably disposed on the needle holder, and an outer housing displaceably disposed about the inner housing and providing a user interface to individually select one of the plurality of patient needles, connect the selected needle with the reservoir, expose the selected needle outside of the apparatus for injection, and store the selected needle.

A pen needle is provided with a plastic non-patient end. Since the non-patient end needle does not contact the patient, the needle can be formed with a larger diameter, permitting more secure attachment to a medication pen and greater medication flow from the cartridge through the cannula. In addition, a two-part hub construction comprising a needle bearing sub assembly and an adapter for attachment to the pen body may be used to lower materials volume and costs, and reduce sharps disposal. In embodiments, a hub according to the invention may be provided with a shield that provides an audible and/or tactile indication when full penetration depth of the needle is achieved. Windows on the shield may reveal a color band on the hub at the full-penetration depth position to provide the user with a visual indication that the pen needle has been used.

A high pressure delivery device for delivering a medicament includes a first chamber for storing a supply of the medicament and a second chamber in fluid communication with the first chamber. A fluid connection path is in fluid communication with the second chamber for administering the medicament. A valving system is in fluid communication with the first chamber, the second chamber and the fluid connection path. The valving system allows a dose of the medicament to be injected from the first chamber into the second chamber while substantially preventing backflow of the dose into the first chamber and substantially preventing leakage through the fluid connection path. The valving system also allows the dose in the second chamber to be administered through the fluid connection path while substantially preventing the dose from flowing back into the first chamber.

A pen needle () for use with a drug delivery device () includes a hub body () having internal threads () to receive the drug delivery device (). A post () is connected to the hub body (). A needle () is rigidly fixed to the post (). The post () is separable from the hub body () such that the needle () is removed with the post (). The fluid path is not disturbed by such removal because the entire needle () is removed with the post (). Removal of only the post () and needle () reduces the volume of waste required for disposal, thereby increasing the effective capacity of a sharps container.

Pen needle packaging concepts provide sterile packaging which can be made with fewer small parts and which can be opened with one hand, streamlining the process of installing the pen needle on the medication pen. In some instances, the packaging operates as a sharps container to store the pen needle after use.

A drug vial safety device, including a cover that is securable to a drug vial is disclosed. The cover at least partially encloses at least a neck and a lid of the drug vial. The cover includes a port having a shape that restricts syringe access to the vial through the port to a syringe shaped to be compatible with the port shape.
