An approach for supporting a wax pattern during investment casting. The approach described herein forms a support structure to support the wax pattern during investment casting. The support structure has a capping structure with a geometry that can match a profile of a lower region of the wax pattern, and at least one support brace extending outward from the support capping structure. The support structure can be placed on a surface of the lower region. The support capping structure can form a defined envelope to enclose the lower region of the wax pattern. The support structure is connected to a base plate by the support brace(s). The capping structure and the support brace(s) secure the wax pattern to the base plate and distribute the load of the wax pattern to maximize strength while minimizing the risk of a discontinuity in the wax or shell that could affect the casting process.

A gas vent system for use in a wellbore that includes a substantially horizontal portion is provided. The gas vent system includes a gas vent conduit positioned within the wellbore. The gas vent conduit defining a gas vent intake passage situated within the substantially horizontal portion of the wellbore and configured to facilitate a flow of gaseous substances therethrough. A gas vent valve coupled to the gas vent conduit and situated outside the wellbore. The gas vent valve controls the flow of gaseous substances through the gas vent conduit.

A water-cooled stator bar clip for electrical generators and a method for applying a corrosion-resistant protective coating, preferably Sc, Ti, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W, Ni, and Al, and their alloys or oxides to existing stator bar end fittings in order to significantly reduce the possibility of leaks through the brazed connections of the copper stator bar end connections. The coatings can be applied locally using various known physical vapor deposition ('PVD'), chemical vapor deposition ('CVD') or other direct coating techniques known in the art. For example, the coatings can be applied using ion plasma deposition, sputtering or wire arc techniques (all PVD processes) or by using electroplating, high velocity oxygen free (&#x201c;HVOF&#x201d;) deposition, DC arc or electroless plating. Preferably, the coatings are applied either to new stator bar clips or to existing clips in the field.

Application of corrosion protective coating for extending the lifetime of water cooled stator bar clips

A brazed joint between an armature bar strand package and an end fitting is provided where a plurality of solid strands and a plurality of hollow strands are arranged in an array. The plurality of hollow strands have free ends that extend axially beyond corresponding free ends of the solid strands. A cavity in the end fitting is accessed by an opening, and the free ends of the plurality of hollow and the corresponding free ends of the solid strands extend through the opening into the cavity. A braze alloy joins the free ends of the plurality of hollow strands and the corresponding free ends of the plurality of solid strands to each other and to interior surfaces of the end fitting, wherein the braze alloy does not extend substantially beyond the free ends of the solid strands. A related method of forming the brazed joint is also disclosed.

Corrosion-resistant liquid-cooled armature bar clip-to-strand connection and related method

A nozzle box includes first and second nozzle box halves which are bolted together. Each nozzle box half includes a nozzle ring segment that carries nozzles along its entire 180&deg; arc, so that when the nozzle box halves are joined together a nozzle box is formed with no discontinuities of nozzles around its 360&deg; circumference. The nozzles carried on each nozzle ring segment communicate with inlet ports, and associated passages which are perpendicular to the nozzle box exit plane.

A turbine closure bucket adapted to complete assembly of a row of tangential entry buckets on a rotor wheel includes an airfoil portion and a mounting portion for mounting the bucket to a turbine wheel. The mounting portion has front and back faces, with weight reduction cavities formed internally in the front and back faces. Externally, the front and back faces of the closure bucket are substantially identical to front and back faces of adjacent buckets in the row.

A gas oven comprises at least a first burner element disposed within an oven cavity of the gas oven. A first control valve is disposed within a gas line connected to the burner element and to a gas source. The control valve controls gas flow to the burner element. A first temperature sensor is positioned so as to detect temperature about the burner element. A controller is electrically coupled to the temperature sensor and to the control valve wherein the controller ensures successful ignition of the burner element by monitoring the temperature signals generated from the temperature sensor to determine if the temperature signals increase a rate that is greater than a predetermined.

An ignition system for a gas appliance comprises an ignition controller that receives a current from a power source. The ignition controller is also coupled to an ignitor and to a current actuated valve that releases a flow of gas when the current is greater than a first predetermined current value and less than a second predetermined current value. Ignition safety for the gas appliance is provided by establishing a fixed range of current through the ignitor before the gas valve is opened.

The dual-fuel nozzle for a gas turbine and combustor includes a liquid fuel nozzle surrounded by a gas fuel nozzle. A converging sleeve surrounds the converging outer wall of the combined liquid fuel and gaseous nozzle to form a duct of decreasing cross-sectional area in a downstream direction whereby air flow through the duct accelerates toward the conical droplet spray pattern emerging from the liquid fuel nozzle. An inside swirler is located upstream of the liquid fuel tip to swirl the air flowing through the duct. An outer swirler is provided about the downstream end of the sleeve, likewise to swirl air. The accelerated swirling air flow through the duct and outer swirling air flow preclude impingement of oil spray droplets onto metal surfaces of the nozzle and hence prevent carbon deposition thereon which would otherwise be deleterious to the liquid fuel and gaseous nozzles.

A gas burner assembly for connection to a source of gas comprises a burner body having a sidewall and a main gas conduit. The main gas conduit has a burner throat and the sidewall has an inner surface, an outer surface and a top surface. A plurality of primary burner ports are disposed within the sidewall dividing the sidewall into a plurality of sidewall islands. A burner cap is removeably disposed on the sidewall. A plurality of paired opposing ridges are disposed on the top surface of the sidewall wherein a single pair of opposing ridges are disposed on a respective sidewall island so as to define a plurality of carryover slots between the opposing ridges, the top surface and the burner cap. Each carryover slot has an inlet and an outlet. The paired ridges comprise a radial taper that narrows from a point adjacent the inner surface of the sidewall to a point adjacent the outer surface of the sidewall such that the flow area at the inlet of the carryover slot has a value that is less than the value of the flow area at the outlet of the carryover slot so as to reduce fuel-air mixture velocity and produce a low velocity, stable carryover flame that reduces the tendency of the main flame to lift.

A gas burner assembly for connection to a gas source includes a burner body having a sidewall and a main gas conduit. The burner body further includes a number of primary burner ports disposed within the sidewall, each for supporting a respective main flame, and a simmer flame port disposed within the sidewall adjacent to the primary burner ports for supporting a simmer flame. Additionally, a main fuel chamber is disposed within the burner body to provide fuel to the primary burner ports, and a stability chamber is disposed within the burner body to channel fuel to the simmer flame port. In one configuration, the stability chamber has one or more stability inlets proximate the burner throat which provide the stability chamber with fuel by utilizing the static pressure associated with each stability inlet. In another configuration, the stability chamber has a small feed hole located proximate the burner throat of the main gas conduit. Each configuration creates a comparatively large pressure drop across the stability chamber during fuel flow due to the positioning of the stability inlets or the feed hole proximate the burner throat, thereby reducing the sensitivity of the simmer flame to pressure disturbances.
