A method for supporting communications includes establishing a packet-based audio communication link with a remote device and informing a local computing device of the audio communication link. A message requesting identification of enhanced media capabilities associated with the remote device is received from the local computing device and tunneled in the audio communication link to the remote device. A tunneled response in the audio communication link is received from the remote device and forwarded to the local computing device. The response identifies the enhanced media capabilities associated with the remote device.

Supporting enhanced media communications using a packet-based communication link

A method comprises receiving a bit stream associated with at least one video image, wherein the bit stream comprises at least one macroblock header and a plurality of macroblocks. The method continues by encrypting the at least one macroblock header. The method concludes by transmitting the bit stream such that the at least one macroblock header is in an encrypted format and at least one macroblock is in an unencrypted format.

System and method for securely transmitting video over a network

A localized digital telephone network may automatically contact a centralized server to identify telephone numbers that connect the local network to a public switched telephone network (PSTN). The server may be a remote identification server that receives calls from local networks, and informs the local networks of the telephone numbers being used by the local networks. The server may capture caller-ID information of the incoming calls, and may return the calls with the captured information encoded in caller-ID signals of the return calls. A method for automated detection may include acts in which a local network generates an outgoing call to a server on a communications port, and then detects an incoming call from the server on the communications port. The local network may determine a caller identifier from the incoming call, and may map the caller identifier to the communications port.

Telephone port identification automatic discovery system

Methods and systems are provided for in-band signaling of at least two simultaneous digital media streams in a network, the two simultaneous streams being a part of a media session. Each of the at least two simultaneous streams is generated from a corresponding source. The generated simultaneous streams are synchronized by using a unique marker packet. Each synchronized stream is transmitted to a destination corresponding to each source.

Method and system for in-band signaling of multiple media streams

A method is provided for establishing a telephone call between a trusted Internet Protocol (IP) telephone and an untrusted device. The method includes receiving a call initiation request from the untrusted device that indicates a desired communication with the trusted IP telephone. The text-based script includes a service definition identifying a user interface web service and an address for the user interface web service. The text-based script also includes a signaling web service definition identifying a signaling web service and an address for the signaling web service. Additionally, the text-based script includes a user interface event handler identifying a user interface event type and including a call to the user interface web service, and a signaling event handler identifying a signaling event type and including a call to the signaling web service. The method additionally includes registering with the user interface web service by communicating a text-based message to the address of the user interface web service, and registering with the signaling web service by communicating a text-based message to the address of the signaling web service. The method further includes receiving an incoming event, determining that the incoming event corresponds to the user interface event type or the signaling event type, and communicating a service request to the address of one of the user interface web service or the signaling web service.

For use in a communications network capable of establishing a bonded call between first and second endpoints using at least two bonded communication channels, a subsystem for preserving a relative latency of the at least two bonded communication channels to allow the bonded call to be transferred to a third endpoint. The subsystem includes: (1) a buffer depth index detection circuit that detects learned values of buffer depth indices associated with the bonded call and stored at a first location and (2) a buffer depth index transmission circuit, coupled to the buffer depth index detection circuit, that transmits the learned values to a second location accessible by the third endpoint to allow the bonded call to be transferred to the third endpoint without requiring the third endpoint to relearn the values.

For use in a communications network having a source and destination endpoint that employs a video transmission protocol in which the destination endpoint of a video stream receives a release command from the source endpoint of the video stream to begin displaying the video stream, the destination endpoint normally receiving the release command only after completion of a capabilities negotiation between the destination endpoint and the source endpoint, a system for, and method of, multicasting the video stream from the source endpoint to at least one destination endpoint. The method includes the steps of: (1) beginning the multicasting of the video stream, (2) ignoring any capabilities messages received from the at least one destination endpoint during the multicasting of the video stream and (3) issuing periodic release commands during the multicasting of the video stream irrespective of receipt times of the ignored capabilities messages, the at least one destination endpoint thereby commanded to begin to display the video stream following a simulation of the capabilities negotiation.
