A friction reduction system disposable in a wellbore includes a first valve member including an inner surface which includes a valve seat; and a second valve member rotatable concentrically about a central axis of the first valve member and including a radial port coverable by the valve seat of the outer valve member, wherein the friction reduction system includes an open configuration that provides a maximum flow area through a valve of the friction reduction system including the second valve member and the first valve member, wherein the friction reduction system includes a closed configuration that provides a minimum flow area through the valve which is less than the maximum flow area, and wherein the friction reduction system is configured to generate a pressure pulse in a fluid flowing through the friction reduction system in response to the friction reduction system transitioning from the open configuration to the closed configuration.

Provided is a safety joint with a moveable seal designed to prevent hydrostatic locking. The safety joint is primarily made up assembling a pin end having a first seal, a threaded connection, and a second, moveable seal to a box end. The moveable seal is disposed in a recess formed in the pin end and includes an O-ring and a spring. When the safety joint is assembled downhole, a volume of fluid may become trapped between the first seal and the second seal. The trapped fluid in turn pushes the O-ring towards the spring, thereby limiting pressure build-up by substantially maintaining the volume trapped between the first and second seals.

A method for leaching a PCD table for a cutter element includes (a) positioning a PCD table within a leaching chamber. The method also includes (b) submerging the PCD table in an acid within the leaching chamber. In addition, the method includes (c) sealing the leaching chamber. Further, the method includes (d) increasing the pressure within the leaching chamber to a pressure greater than or equal to 20,000 psi after (c).

A grapple for use in an overshot has a tension ring with a reduced helix diameter. However, the helix diameter is not reduced on either sides of the control finger slot to allow the grapple to remain in contact with the control. In the alternative, a composite helix member may be utilized. Another embodiment comprises the inclusion of expansion blades on the inner diameter ('ID') of the tension ring which allow the grapple to expand substantially before the fish reaches the segments. Another embodiment provides for a control with an offset finger to allow the guide thread ID to be smaller than the bowl helix major ID. Yet another embodiment provides a spiral grapple having grooves along its axis to provide the ability to catch a larger range of fish.

Assembly and method for wide catch overshot

A grapple for use in an overshot has a tension ring with a reduced helix diameter but the helix diameter is not reduced on either sides of the control finger slot. One embodiment includes expansion blades on the inner diameter ('ID') of the tension ring to allow the grapple to expand substantially before the fish reaches the segments. An embodiment provides for a control with an offset finger to allow the guide thread ID to be smaller than the bowl helix major ID. Also provided is grapple control for a spiral grapple that has at least one gap to allow the grapple control to be more compliant during fishing operations. The control may include one or more bridges of reduced thickness. Alternate embodiments include gaps and support bands with or without bridges and/or a backup ring to help eliminate misalignment of the grapple control with the support shoulder of the overshot guide.

A rope socket comprises a slip cone subassembly having a straight outer diameter and a tapered inner diameter. A plurality of slips is positioned within the slip cone body. A retainer ring holds the slips together. A guide plug is positioned within the slips to maintain the slips in an opening position during insertion of a cable. A spring stabilizer having a spring thereon is coupled above the slip cone assembly to ensure even compression of the spring. A safety slot is located on the body of the rope socket in order to provide a visual indication of the cable position.

A slot is defined between the first arm and the second arm. A first gripping insert is mounted on the first arm. A nut is rotatably retained in the slot. A jaw has a shank terminating in a jaw head. The shank is movably engaged with the nut. A second gripping insert is mounted on the jaw head.

The present invention is an improved swivel joint for use as part of a cable-guided fishing assembly. The swivel joint contains a bearing assembly comprising a series of ball bearings partially encased by an inner and outer race. During a cable-guided fishing operation, the inner and outer race exert a shearing, rather than compression, force on the ball bearing due to the unique configuration of the bearing assembly. This unique configuration increases the strength of the bearing assembly, and the corresponding strength of the swivel joint, without necessitating an increase in the outer diameter of the swivel joint.

A C-plate assembly for use in a cable-guided fishing assembly is disclosed. The disclosed invention provides a C-plate assembly in which a closure member is slidable from an open position, which allows a wellbore tubular or other item to be positioned in the cut-out section of the C-plate base, to a closed position, which closes the opening to the cut-out section and thereby prevents the wellbore tubular or other item from being unintentionally knocked free from the cut-out section during a fishing operation. The closure member is locked in place in the closed position by inserting the ends of a movable handle extending off of one side of the C-plate base into openings in the C-plate base. The ends of the movable handle are spring loaded to allow for the ends to be pulled out of the openings in the C-plate base such that the closure member can be 'unlocked' and moved from a closed position to an open position during operation.

Apparatus and method for a C-plate used in a cable guided fishing assembly

A cable hanger for use in a cable-guided fishing operation is disclosed. The disclosed invention provides a cable hanger in which a specially-shaped hanger body is connected to a handle having a cable groove running through it. The cable groove allows for the centerline of a cable to run through the centerline of the handle, thereby allowing for a straight-line pull to be exerted on the cable through the cable hanger. The specially-shaped hanger body is operatively connected to a specially-shaped body cover by a plurality of links. In this way, the hanger body and cover form a 'clamshell' arrangement in which the cover can rotate from an open position to a closed position around the cable. When in the closed position, the cover and body are bolted together along the side of the cover and body opposite the links. The hanger body and cover are designed such that the cable rests closer to the links rather than in the center of the hanger body such that the moment arm between the bolts and the cable is increased, thereby increasing the amount of clamping force that can be provided by the bolts.

Disclosed is an improved spear head overshot. The spear head overshot is particularly useful as part of a cable-guided fishing assembly. The spear head overshot essentially comprises one or more pivot lugs, the pivot lugs comprising jaw sections and release point sections, an actuator slide, a wave spring, a pivot mandrel, a screw attached to the pivot mandrel, and a compression spring threaded over the screw. In operation, a spear head is inserted into the spear head overshot until the spear head passes the jaw sections of the pivot lugs, at which time the spear head is locked into place. To release the spear head, the release point sections of the pivot lugs are manually forced inward. Simultaneously, the jaw sections of the pivot lugs are forced outward, thereby allowing the spear head to be removed from the spear head overshot. In a cable-guided fishing operation, this process can be repeated as often as necessary.

An internal, positive engagement lock that locks a tool, such as a hydraulic drilling jar, in the fully open position when the tool is racked back and when tripping in and out of the hole close to the surface. The lock mechanism is spring biased into a locked position that provides a positive engagement between two axially translatable components, thus preventing any actuation of the tool. As the tool is run in the hole, increasing hydrostatic pressure within the tool will cause the locking mechanism to shift to a disengaged position and the tool will operate normally. The spring-biased locking mechanism will return to the locked position as hydrostatic pressure decreases as the tool is retrieved to the surface.
