A method of providing a print representation of a document which, when printed, has at least one region the appearance of which is dependent on viewing conditions. The method comprises generating a representation of the document and then modifying the appearance of the at least one region to thereby simulate the appearance of the document when printed. This is achieved by animating the representation of the at least one region or at least partially combining the at least one region with an image.

Print presentation

An image recording apparatus () is disclosed, which includes forming elements () for forming an image, a memory () indicating relative desirability of utilizing the forming elements () for forming the image, and processing unit () for computing image recording signals using input image signals () and the stored data. The use of a particular forming element is thereby biased dependent upon the relative desirability data for the other forming elements and the corresponding input image signals for the other forming elements.

Defective nozzle compensation

The use of a particular forming element is thereby biased dependent upon the relative desirability data of other forming elements, the corresponding input signal for the particular forming element, and a term for the particular forming element.

An image signal in filtered to provide a filtered image signal representing a filtered image, and a mapping function is determined from a predetermined arbitrary function of the image signal. The filtered image signal and the image signal are interpolated in accordance with the mapping function to produce a final image signal representing a final image. The interpolation includes adjusting an opacity of each picture element of the image signal and the filtered image signal in accordance with the mapping function. In a final image, a smoothed transition is produced between the filtered image signal and the image signal. Preferably, the determination of the mapping function is also dependent upon the filtered image signal, and the mapping function is an absolute value of a difference between the image signal and the filtered image signal.

An arrangement for sharpening the resolution of printed text in a color printing system is disclosed. An image processing system (1) includes a color conversion apparatus (2) for converting from one color space (RBG) to another color space (CMYK) for display on a color printer (8). The color conversion apparatus (2) includes a near-black correction unit (36) which detects near black-near white and near white-near, black transistions and when such a transition occurs, outputs a full,or deep black color in place of the near-black color.

Near black under color removal

Disclosed is an arrangement which lessens the effects of compression artifacts resulting from the compression of graphic images having high spatial frequency components. Such graphic images are typically text related in view of the high contrast required for text outlines. The arrangement includes a text detector configured to detect cells of a source image which are likely to create compression artifacts when each of the cells is compressed by a compressor for storage in a compressed image store. The text detector creates a bit table in a text detect store of those cells which include high spatial frequency components. Upon expansion, of the compressed image by an expander, the cells are passed through a pixel saturator which, if the cell is a 'text' cell referenced in the text detect store, all pixels within that text cell are saturated to colours from a predetermined set of colours. The expanded image is then restored to an image store.

Compression enhancement in graphics system

A colour conversion apparatus maps image data from an input colour space (RGB) to an output colour space (CMYK). A transfer function between the colour spaces is known relevant to an appropriate display medium such as a printer and this is divided into intervals for interpolating between the colour spaces. The intervals vary in length depending on the behavior of the transfer function with the intervals being shorter where the transfer function is not well behaved (i.e. rapid change in slope). Interpolation is performed over each interval based on mapping a volume of input pixel data to a corresponding volume of a component of output pixel data. Interpolation is performed between those points to derive an output pixel colour component value. The process is repeated for each primary colour component of the output colour space to produce composite output pixels. Near-white and near-black colour correction is also performed.

Color conversion apparatus

In a color image processing system (1) , near-white color corrections are performed prior to printing (8) to improve the dynamic range of the printed image. Input pixels are compared with a threshold (71) and if less than, a dithering is performed to determine the output value. Dithering takes place to determine if the output value is to be the threshold or zero.
