An application executed on a device reads a portion of a memory during one of an initialization operation and a regular read operation. The application may trigger a preventative read operation during at least one regular read operation. During the preventative read operation the application selects at least one block and at least one page for the preventative read operation. The application determines a cadence for the preventative read operation. The application obtains an error correction code (ECC) status for the portion of the memory, determines if a number of errors associated with the portion is greater than a predefined ECC threshold and performs a correction, responsive to determining that a number of errors associated with the portion is greater than a predefined ECC threshold.

Described is a system and method for establishing a wireless connection between wireless devices. The method comprises obtaining data of a corresponding computing device. The device conducts wireless communications using a predetermined wireless protocol. The obtained data is processed to generate a wireless address of the device and a first message is transmitted to the device for establishing a wireless connection. The first message is addressed to the wireless address. When a first response message is received from the device, a second message is transmitted to the device. The first response message is generated in response to the first message and includes the wireless address. The second message includes synchronization data. When a second response message is received from the device, the wireless connection is established with the device. The second response message is generated in response to the second message.

A mobile computing device contains a mobility device assistant that is able to communicate with external devices, such as peripheral equipment and other devices. The external device can also communicate with the mobility device assistant via a proxy communication device or manager. The proxy manager maintains a database of information about those external devices that are unable to communicate. The method also provides for a way to ensure that the application program running on the host computer handles data received from the at least one mobile computer terminals when one of the mobile computer terminals goes out of range of the wireless network, comprising the steps of: establishing communications and association between a first of the at least one mobile computer terminals and a first access point on a local network; determining in said first of the at least one mobile computer terminals, that communications between said first of the at least one mobile computer terminals and all other access points have been impeded and switching to batch mode to continue data collection.
