Apparatus for protecting the head of a person from an external force includes an inner shell which fits over the head of the person and an outer shell which fits over the inner shell. A plurality of bags which contain a pressurized gas are disposed between the inner shell and the outer shell. When an external force is applied to the outer shell some of the bags distribute and partially absorb the external force thereby reducing the force experienced by the person.

A system for transporting a crane includes a crane which has a boom which is connected to a base, the base has a front end and an opposite rear end. A coupler is connected between a tractor and the front end of the base. A dolly is connected to the rear end of the base. In an embodiment the dolly includes a rear cradle which is shaped and dimensioned to receive and support the boom during transporting. In another embodiment the coupler includes a front cradle which is shaped and dimensioned to receive and support the boom during transporting.

System for transporting a crane

A system for transporting and operating a crane includes a front adapter which connects to the front end of the base of the crane, and a rear adapter which connects to the rear end of the base of the crane A coupler pivotally connects to the front adapter, and also connects to the tractor. A dolly pivotally connects to the rear adapter. In a transportational configuration the crane is suspended above the support surface between the coupler and the dolly. In an operational configuration the coupler and the dolly remain connected to their respective adapters, with their weight fully supported by the ground. This allows the crane to be used with no reduction to the manufacturer's rated capabilities. In accordance with another embodiment, the dolly includes a rear cradle which is shaped and dimensioned to receive and support the boom during transportation. In accordance with another embodiment, the coupler includes a front cradle which is shaped and dimensioned to receive and support the boom during transportation.

A dual lane, multi-axle transport vehicle for moving heavy loads includes a forward module mounted on a plurality of axles and a rearward module mounted on a plurality of axles. The forward module is mechanically connected to the rearward module for providing a dual lane transport body. The forward module and the rearward module of the transport body each have a single central spine wherein the axles of both the forward module and the rearward module are each attached to the corresponding single central spine. The axles of both the forward module and the rearward module have an axle spacing of at least six feet. A hydraulic suspension is provided for dynamically stabilizing the axles for reducing axle yaw. An axle steering system having a plurality of steering rods controls the position of the axles of both the forward module and the rearward module.

The one side of the rear end of the front section is connected to the same side of the front end of the rear section by a variable length mechanism. At least one of the plurality of cross beams comprises a hollow element having a first end and a second end, wherein the hollow element is coupled to and extends perpendicularly to the central beam; a first beam slidably positioned within the first end of the hollow element, wherein the first beam is coupled to at least one axle; and a second beam slidably positioned within the second end of the hollow element, wherein the second beam is coupled to at least one axle. Because the components of the present invention may be disconnected, the transport vehicle may be readily disassembled and moved from location to location using conventional transportation means. The modularity also allows the width of the transport vehicle to be adjusted using different widths of connectors to accommodate road conditions and/or governmental regulations.
