A method for deghosting marine seismic streamer data includes receiving the marine seismic data recorded from a single streamer. A representation of an upgoing wavefield in the marine seismic data is defined. The representation of the upgoing wavefield includes a first wave component in a plane and a second wave component that is perpendicular to the plane. A linear system is built that models a wavefield using the representation. The wavefield includes the upgoing wavefield and a downgoing ghost wavefield. The upgoing wavefield is estimated, within the representation, by inverting the linear system.

Single streamer deghosting with extended model space

Synthetic survey data is generated using a two-way or one-way wave propagator based on a current model of a target structure. The current model is modified to reduce a difference between the synthetic survey data and observed survey data, while maintaining unchanged a velocity component of the current model, where the modifying of the current model produces a modified model. The modified model is used to reduce an adverse effect of multiples in the target structure, or to promote a favorable effect of multiples in the target structure.

Multiples mitigation and imaging with incomplete seismic data

Processing measurements to create 'reflectivity' data at a datum for a target using Joint Point-Spread Functions. The 'reflectivity' data can be an image or an extended image. The methods can create single reflectivity data from measurements from multiple experiments, or multiple processed datasets via different processing routes from measurements from a single experiment, or measurements from a single experiment with multiple simultaneous sources.

Methods and apparatuses for processing marine seismic data with a process of combined deghosting and sparse &#x3c4;-p transformation. The process is formulated as an optimization problem. The optimization problem has an objective function that is a weighted sum of two norms: one norm is an Lp norm of the differences between the modeled data and acquired survey wherein the modeled data are derived from a model and a set of adaptive filters; the other norm is an Lq norm of the model; and the optimization variables and solutions are the coefficients of the model and coefficients of the adaptive filters.

Seismic data processing methods and computing systems are presented. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed that includes simulating a set of simulated seismic data from a set of acquired seismic data; separating the simulated seismic data into a plurality of data sets, wherein one set of data is matched in the acquired seismic data and one set of data is unmatched in the acquired seismic data; conforming the simulated seismic data and the acquired seismic data to one another using separated, simulated seismic data unmatched by a counterpart in the acquired seismic data from the acquired seismic data; and performing an inversion between the acquired seismic data and the separated, simulated seismic data after they are conformed to one another.

Waveform inversion by multiple shot-encoding for non-fixed spread geometries

A method for processing seismic data. The method includes predicting seismic data according to an earth model representing seismic properties of subterranean formations in the earth, determining a difference between seismic data acquired from one or more seismic receivers and the predicted seismic data, projecting the difference into a model space in traveltime, and updating the earth model according to the projected difference. As a result, the updated earth model more accurately represents the seismic properties of subterranean formations in the earth.

Forward modeling is performed to compute a response of a target structure, the forward modeling accounting for distortion of a reflected signal from a reflector in the target structure. Waveform inversion is performed using the response of the forward modeling.

Implementations of various technologies for a method for generating a seismic image of a subsurface are described herein. Seismic data may be received from two sensors in a seismic survey. The seismic data below and equal to a predetermined frequency may be classified as low-frequency seismic data. The low-frequency seismic data may be re-sampled based on the predetermined frequency. A set of low-frequency Green's functions may be calculated using interferometry on the re-sampled low-frequency seismic data. High-frequency seismic data of the seismic data may be processed to create a set of high-frequency Green's functions at one or more source locations of the seismic survey. The set of high-frequency Green's functions may be merged with the set of low-frequency Green's functions to create a set of broad-band Green's functions. The seismic image may be generated using the set of broad-band Green's functions at the source locations.

Interferometric seismic data processing

A technique includes performing reverse time imaging to determine an image in a region of interest. The reverse time imaging includes modeling a pressure wavefield and a gradient wavefield in the region of interest based at least in part on particle motion data and pressure data acquired by sensors in response to energy being produced by at least one source.
