A two-way communication device with detachable transmitter and method of operation receives and/or sends communication signals. The device includes a receiver portion for receiving communication signals, and a transmitter portion for transmitting communication signals. The receiver and the transmitter may or may not be independently operational when detached. This detachability allows the receiver portion to be carried into secure areas where transmitters are not allowed without losing ability to be contacted. To indicate detachment, the receiver detects that the transmitter is detached via a signal pin. An indicator portion visually indicates whether the transmitter is detached or attached to the receiver. A control unit regulates communication signals with the receiver and transmitter. A user interface unit enables inputting and receiving data for communications. A housing protects the receiver and transmitter.

Two-way communication device with detachable transmitter and method of operation

An m-ary variable shift keying communications system with a signal transmitter which uses a frequency hopping architecture and conveys symbol information. A pseudorandom noise (PN) code is integrated into the transmitted signal. There is a code for the system in which there are 'm' number of possible frequencies. A signal receiver has a plurality of channels. There is a detection means and a symbol decision means operatively coupled to the receiver. An error detection and correction means provides error correction of the received data.

m-ary variable shift keying communications system

A golf distance indicator system provides measurement and display of the distance between a golfer and the pin on the green he is approaching. The system comprises a portable unit carried by the golfer and an target unit located on the pin. With the portable unit, the golfer selects the hole he is playing then activates the system. The portable unit sends a wireless coded message to an intended target unit. When a target unit receives a message, it analyzes the message to see if it should respond. If the target unit determines that it should respond, it sends a coded responding message to the portable unit. When the portable unit receives a responding message, it analyzes the responding message to see if the responding message originates from the intended target unit. If it does, the portable unit calculates a distance based on the elapsed time for the communications and the speed of the communications. The results are displayed on the portable unit.

Distance indicator system for golf

A system for enhancing speech intelligibility using wireless communication is provided. The system has a number of talker units, each having a microphone and a transmitter so that an audio input received at the microphone is transmitted via the transmitter as an output. The system includes a receiver unit having a receiver to receive the outputs of the talker units, and a mixer to mix the outputs to form a mixed output signal, and a transmitter to transmit the mixed output signal on a preselected frequency. The system also has a listener unit tunable to receive the mixed output signal transmitted on the preselected frequency. The system can be embodied in a serial daisy chain arrangement or in a parallel repeater arrangement. A method for enhancing speech intelligibility using wireless communication is provided. The method has the steps of: providing a listener unit to at least one listener and a talker unit to each of a plurality of talkers, each talker unit being capable of transmitting an audio signal; receiving the audio signals from the plurality of talker units; mixing the audio signals to form a mixed output signal; transmitting the mixed output signal on a preselected frequency; and receiving the mixed output signal at the listener unit on the preselected frequency.
