A device for providing tactile stimulation of a subject via a pulse of compressible fluid, typically for medical diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The device preferably includes a high pressure fluid source and a low pressure fluid source. A pressure valve selectively connects the pressure sources to an outlet conduit. The outlet conduit includes an applicator for directing pulses against the skin of a subject. The pulses may be applied via one applicator or a plurality of applicators, and may be applied in one pattern or several patterns at various application sites. A method of providing tactile stimulation is also disclosed.

Pneumatic somatosensory stimulation device and method

A laparoscopic device includes an elongate shaft, an end effector coupled to a distal end of the elongate shaft, a rounded housing coupled to a proximal end of the elongate shaft and having a center point positioned along the central axis of the elongate shaft, and first and second cables extending from the end effector to the rounded housing respectively along first and second sides of the elongate shaft. The laparoscopic device also includes a handle that is adjustable between an expanded configuration and a compressed configuration. In the expanded configuration, the rounded housing can be rotated to further rotate a single shaft assembly with respect to the central axis of the elongate shaft, and the rounded housing can be pivoted to bend the end effector. In the compressed configuration, the rounded housing is fixed with respect to the handle.

Laparoscopic devices and related methods

This device is used to clear clots and blockages from chest drainage tubes. This invention relates to patient safety after open-heart surgical procedures, wherein postoperative drainage from the surgical site is a critical component of care. Blocked drainage tubes can cause dangerous retained blood complications, most notably, cardiac tamponade, which essentially smothers the heart.

A lifting apparatus for a person comprises a frame with at least two leg members fixedly attached to each other via a pair of transverse beams, a pair of vertical bars separated at a predetermined distance, wherein the vertical bars are fixedly attached to the frame via connector bars and transverse beams. The lifting apparatus comprises at least two vertical central beams fixedly attached to the frame at a predetermined position via the connector bars and transverse beams. A vertical carriage assembly comprises a seating assembly and a movable subassembly mounted on the vertical central beam and an actuator mechanism is used to elevate the vertical carriage assembly via a plurality of T-slots to slide along the vertical central beam. The design of the horizontal seating plate is smaller in size to allow the apparatus to be used in confined spaces.

Lifting and transport assembly

A dermatome assembly is operable to harvest a skin graft and includes an ultrasonic dermatome and a power supply. The ultrasonic dermatome includes a body and an ultrasonic blade assembly mounted in the body. The blade assembly includes a frequency generator and a cutting horn powered by the frequency generator. The cutting horn is spaced apart from the body so that the body is restricted from damping vibrational movement of the cutting horn. The dermatome assembly is operable to precisely control the thickness of the cut skin graft and also restrict the cutting horn from overheating.

The invention concerns a device for propagating electromagnetic waves through impure water such as seawater or brackish water. The device comprises a body of polar material, for example pure water, contained in an enclosure, and an antenna arranged to emit an electromagnetic signal into the polar material. Excitation of dipoles in the polar material by the electromagnetic signal causes them to re-radiate the signal, which is thereby emitted into and relatively efficiently propagated through the water in which the device is submerged. The device offers the possibility of improved underwater communication.
