An adjustment assembly for an agricultural planter operable in a travel direction and at a travel velocity and configured to dispense seeds into a furrow formed within an agricultural surface includes a bracket configured to be coupled to a frame of the agricultural planter and a debris cleaner coupled to the bracket and configured to inhibit debris from entering the furrow. A control processor is configured to receive a first signal representing a first velocity of the agricultural planter relative to the agricultural surface, send a second signal to actuate movement of the debris cleaner into a first position based on the first signal, receive a third signal representing a second velocity of the agricultural planter relative to the agricultural surface, and send a fourth signal to actuate movement of the debris cleaner into a second position based on the third signal.

An agricultural machine includes a main frame, an adjustable frame coupled to the main frame and, a row unit which includes a linking arm coupled to the adjustable frame, and an actuator coupled to the main frame and the adjustable frame. The agricultural machine also includes a controller configured to command the actuator to output various downforces to the row units based on signals received from one or more sensors. The one or more sensors are configured to measure one more indicators associated with an actual height of the row unit relative to ground.

Ground following optimization with position control systems and methods

An agricultural planter is configured to be moved over a supporting surface by a vehicle. The agricultural planter includes a frame and a planter assembly coupled to the frame. A first propulsion assembly is coupled to the frame at a first position with the first propulsion assembly having a first traction member configured to engage the supporting surface. A second propulsion assembly is coupled to the frame at a second position with the second propulsion assembly having a second traction member configured to engage the supporting surface. A drive assembly is operably coupled to at least one of the first or second propulsion assemblies and configured to drive at least one of the first or second traction members during operation of the planter assembly. The first traction member is configured to be driven independently of the second traction member.

Propulsion assembly for an agricultural implement

An agricultural planter is operable in a travel direction and a travel velocity and configured to dispense seeds into a furrow formed within an agricultural surface. An adjustment assembly is for the agricultural planter and includes a bracket configured to be coupled to a frame of the agricultural planter and a debris cleaner coupled to the bracket. The debris cleaner is configured such that during operation of the agricultural planter the debris cleaner has, relative to the travel direction, a leading edge and a trailing edge. The debris cleaner is movable such that a distance between the leading and trailing edges in the travel direction is adjustable.

A row unit for a seeding machine operable to plant seeds into soil. A frame supports a furrow opener, a gauge wheel, a seed dispenser, and a furrow closer. A row unit downforce actuator is operable to push the row unit frame toward the soil to adjustably control soil engagement forces for the furrow opener, the gauge wheel, and the furrow closer. An acceleration sensor is configured to detect accelerations of the row unit. A controller is in communication with the acceleration sensor and the row unit downforce actuator, and the controller is programmed with an algorithm to maintain a target downforce value during operation of the row unit. The controller is further programmed to abandon the target downforce value and relieve the row unit downforce actuator in response to a signal from the acceleration sensor indicative of acceleration of the row unit in excess of a predetermined threshold.

Planter row unit adjustment control

A seeding machine for a row unit, in which the row unit has a seed disk rotatable about a first axis to convey seed from a seed reservoir, includes a seed delivery apparatus. The seed delivery apparatus includes an elongated housing having a first opening through which seed is received, a second opening through which seed exits, and an elongated interior chamber. The seed delivery apparatus further includes a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless member driven by the first pulley and/or the second pulley. The endless member is movable within the elongated interior chamber to receive seed from the first opening and convey seed to the second opening. A seed diverter is movable with respect to the endless member and pivotable about a second axis non-coincident with the first axis. The seed diverter is positioned to contact and guide seed into the seed delivery apparatus.

Seeding system

A seeding machine for a row unit, in which the row unit has a seed disk rotatable about an axis to convey seed from a seed reservoir, includes a seed delivery apparatus. The seed delivery apparatus includes an elongated housing having a first opening through which seed is received, a second opening through which seed exits, and an elongated interior chamber. The seed delivery apparatus also includes a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless member driven by the first pulley and/or the second pulley. The endless member is movable within the elongated interior chamber to receive seed from the first opening and convey seed to the second opening. A seed diverter is movable with respect to the endless member and translatable from a first position to a second position. The seed diverter is positioned to contact and guide seed into the seed delivery apparatus.

A seeding machine for a row unit includes a rotatable seed disk with a plurality of apertures through which an air pressure differential is applicable to retain seed thereon. A seed delivery apparatus includes an elongated housing having a first opening through which seed is received, a second opening through which seed exits, and an elongated interior chamber. The seed delivery apparatus further includes a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless member driven by the first pulley and/or the second pulley. The endless member is movable within the elongated interior chamber to receive seed from the first opening and convey seed to the second opening. The endless member is further positioned to sweep across a portion of the seed disk, which is controllable to angularly accelerate cooperatively with movement of the endless member to facilitate movement of a retained seed by the endless member from the seed disk.

An implement frame having a carriage frame for coupling to a towing vehicle and wheels to support the frame for movement over a ground surface. A pivot frame is rotationally mounted to the carriage frame and a lift assembly is coupled to the pivot frame via a shift assembly. A tool bar is mounted to the lift assembly. The shift assembly moves the tool bar forward as it is moved from the field use position to the transport position. The wheels are mounted to swing arms to move the wheels inward for a narrow transport position.

Planter row unit furrow depth sensing apparatus and method

A seeding apparatus and a method is disclosed in which a seed spacing variability value is determined and displayed to the operator during a planting operation. Any method of determining variability among a set of data can be used to determine the seed spacing variability value. Three examples are shown: standard deviation; coefficient of variation; and coefficient of uniformity. Data can be stored for later comparison with harvest yield data to determine the effects of seed spacing on yield.

Seeding apparatus and method of determining a seed spacing variability value

An implement frame having a carriage frame for coupling to a towing vehicle and wheels to support the frame for movement over a ground surface. A pivot frame is rotationally mounted to the carriage frame and a lift assembly is coupled to the pivot frame via a shift assembly. A tool bar is mounted to the lift assembly. The shift assembly moves the tool bar forward as it is moved from the field use position to the transport position. The wheels are mounted to swing arms to move the wheels inward for a narrow transport position. All motion is accomplished through actuators, such as hydraulic cylinders, to automate the process making it quick and easy.

A variable is sensed that is indicative of a performance of a machine. A rate of change of the sensed variable is determined, and a control signal is generated for controlling an agricultural vehicle, based upon the rate of change in the value of the sensed variable.

Controlling an agricultural vehicle based on sensed inputs

A planter is described which utilizes individual seed meter motor drives at each row unit. motor controllers control each seed meter drive motor. Each individual row seed meter can be individually started, stopped and operated at a unique rate. Prior to planting, the meters can be operated to fill the meters and ensure that the meters are primed and ready to start dropping seed as soon as the planter begins operation to plant seed. When a seed delivery system is used with each meter to move seed from the meter to the soil, the delivery system is also primed with seed before operation of the planter.
