An apparatus for dispensing a predetermined amount of adhesive weighted tape includes a controller adapted to receive a request for a desired amount of adhesive weighted tape and an elongated track member adapted to receive a supply of the adhesive weighted tape. A sensor is mounted adjacent a second end of the track member. The sensor in communication with the controller is operable to transmit a signal to the controller corresponding to a measured amount of weighted tape passing thereby. A motive apparatus in communication with the controller is adapted to move the weighted tape from a first end to the second end of the track member in response to the signal from the sensor. A cutting member disposed adjacent the second end of the track member is in communication with the controller and is adapted to cut the weighted tape in response to the signal from the sensor.

Adhesive wheel weight dispensing apparatus

A tire pressure monitor (TPM) installation tool adapted for use by a operator, and for installing a push-in style TPM within a valve stem opening defined by a wheel, wherein the tool is configured to provide mechanical advantage while assembling the TPM and wheel, and includes an elongated member configured to receive an applied force from the operator, a nesting fixture configured to retain the TPM in a relatively fixed position, and a wheel engaging member for securing the tool during installation.

Tire pressure monitor installation tool

A hand tool has two digital video cameras mounted thereon adjacent to a working end of the tool for viewing a work site, which video cameras are connected to a pair of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) mounted on the tool proximate a control end of the tool. The hand tool includes a barrel with a handle at the control end and a control operator for activating the tool, wherein the control operator is in operative relationship with the handle and wherein the working end of the tool is positioned at the end of the barrel opposite the control end of the tool. In an illustrated example, the cameras and LCDs are mounted on a pneumatic nut runner with a T-head tool drive.

Vision-assisted hand tools

An item such as a passenger assist handle is anchored to an automotive framing component by a mounting stud passing through a hole in the framing component. The mounting stud includes a shaft with a helix at a first end and a threaded portion at a second end. The helix and threaded portion are of opposite hands and the threaded portion receives a stop nut thereon. The automotive framing component has a teardrop shaped opening therethrough having a first diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the shaft and a second diameter substantially equal to the radius of the helix. Upon threading the nut onto the shaft, while the stud is held initially stationary by frictional engagement between its surface and surfaces of the framing component adjacent to the teardrop shaped opening, the stop nut bottoms against a shoulder on the shaft and then begins rotating the shaft to drive the helix through the teardrop shaped opening. The stop nut then engages the base portion and urges the base portion of the item into a tight relationship with the faming component. Preferably, the mounting stud is made of an acetal homopolymer.

Arrangements for anchoring items to automotive framing components

A method of assembling a roof assembly into a vehicle includes assembling the roof assembly and at least one module subassembly. The roof assembly includes a roof outer panel configured to cover a roof opening in the vehicle. The roof assembly and the module subassemblies are installed by operators working entirely outside the vehicle, resulting in increased efficiency and production cost savings.

Method of installing a vehicle roof assembly

An apparatus for attaching an electrical cable to and making an electrical connection with a mounting post on a vehicle battery includes a base portion having an aperture extending through a first end and a second end thereof. The first end of the base portion is placed over the mounting post. An insert is received in the second end of base portion. A spring is received in the base portion and a cap having an open end sized to be placed over the base portion compresses the spring. At least one stop member is attached to the base portion. The stop member interacts with the cap to lock the cap in position with respect to the base portion when the spring is compressed, maintaining compression on the spring and the insert to ensure an electrical connection between the insert and the mounting post.

Battery post connector apparatus

A battery assembly for a vehicle includes a battery with a post extending therefrom. A terminal is connected to the post, and a blade extends from the terminal. A battery cable includes an attached connector. The connector is configured to receive the blade in a snap-in relationship. The blade includes a protrusion thereon, and the connector includes a spring member configured to provide sufficient normal force on the blade to force the blade against a wall of the connector to provide a reliable electrical contact. The spring member abuts the protrusion to secure the blade in the connector.

Quick connect battery terminal

A window system for a vehicle including a glass assembly, an electrical device coupled to the glass assembly, a conducting post electrically coupled to the electrical device, sheet metal in the vehicle forming an aperture in the vehicle for accepting the glass assembly, a locating tab located on the border of the aperture, where the conducting post couples to the locating tab to position the glass assembly within the aperture to create an electrical connection to an electrical system in the vehicle.

Electrical connection to windshield/backglass

A roof rail air bag assembly includes an air bag module having an air bag and an air bag inflator, and a hanger designed to attach the assembly to the roof rail of a vehicle. The installation of the roof rail air bag assembly is accomplished by an operator standing outside the vehicle, and without the use of external fasteners. A roof panel is attached to the vehicle roof rail to permanently fasten the hanger to the vehicle, while the air bag module can be easily removed for servicing.

Roof rail air bag assembly and method of installation

A method for installing a vehicle roof assembly. A structure is provided defining a roof opening in a vehicle. A headliner is provided having a first configuration larger than the roof opening and a free peripheral edge. Components are installed onto said headliner, and the headliner is secured to a roof panel for forming a roof assembly. The headliner is deformed to a second configuration for displacing the free peripheral edge, and a restraining device maintains the headliner in the second configuration. The roof assembly is installed onto the vehicle through the roof opening. The restraining device is removed and the free peripheral edge is attached to the vehicle for concealing the structure defining the roof opening.

Modular automotive roof installation method

An evaporative emission canister, for use with the fuel system for an internal combustion engine, includes a canister housing defined by a cylindrical outer wall, a closed lower end wall, an upper end wall and a cylindrical inner wall depending from the upper end wall. An air-vapor permeable support means is positioned within the housing above the lower end wall in abutment against the lower free end of the inner wall to define with the lower end wall an air chamber in flow communication with the atmosphere and to define with the outer wall and the inner wall, an outer canister chamber and an inner canister chamber, respectively, that contain fuel vapor adsorbing material. The inner canister chamber is connected by a fuel bowl vent valve so as to receive vapors emitted from the float bowl of the carburetor of the engine when the engine is not in operation and the outer canister chamber is connected to receive vapors emitted from the fuel in the fuel tank for the engine. First and second orifice passages from the inner and outer canister chambers, respectively, are connected to the vapor purge chamber of a vapor purge control valve whereby fuel vapors can be purged from the canister assembly to the engine during engine operation. In the preferred embodiment, the above-described valves are incorporated into the upper end wall of the canister.

Evaporative emissions canister

The ignition spark initiating mechanism of the ignition distributor is operated by a vacuum responsive device for adjusting ignition spark timing in response to engine vacuum. A temperature responsive valve located in a position at which it is exposed to engine intake air and a bleed line including a calibrated restriction are arranged in combination to expose the engine vacuum signal applied to the intake port of the vacuum actuator unit to atmosphere through the inlet and outlet ports of the temperature responsive valve. This combination operates to adjust the level of the engine vacuum applied to the vacuum responsive device proportionally with changes of engine intake air temperature in a direction toward atmosphere as the temperature of the engine intake air increases and vice versa.

Temperature compensated internal combustion engine ignition spark vacuum

An internal combustion engine having a cylinder head with integral intake manifold and a planar mounting face which is secured to the cylinder block and on which the exhaust manifold is also mounted. The head member incorporates an open bottomed mixture plenum closed by a heated wall of the exhaust manifold for supplying mixture heat. The plenum receives mixture through an inlet tube perforated to distribute recirculated exhaust gases from an annular chamber in the head. Mixture passes from the plenum through a pair of upwardly angled feeder passages to separate longitudinally aligned distribution passages feeding the intake ports of front and rear groups of cylinders. The head also incorporates an open topped secondary air gallery connected through distribution tubes with the exhaust ports and closed by an extended flange on the engine rocker cover through which air is supplied. The arrangement provides advantages in manufacturing and mixture distribution for improved operation.
