Provided is a 10Base-T MAC to PHY interface requiring only two wires (pins) per port, with two additional global wires: a clock wire (pin), and a synchronization wire (pin). This reduction in the number of pins associated with each port is achieved by time-division multiplexing wherein each time-division multiplexed wire combines a plurality of definitions from the conventional seven-wire interface. As a result, each port has its own pair of associated time-division multiplexed wires (pins) and the addition of each port simply requires two additional wires. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, information normally transferred on nine wires in a conventional seven-wire interface at 10 MHz is time-division multiplexed onto two wires (corresponding to two pins) that transfer data at 40 MHz, four times the speed of conventional interfaces. Importantly, this multiplexing is done on a port by port basis. Therefore, the number of pins required for a MAC to transceiver interface is two times the number of ports plus two instead of nine times the number of ports, and the addition of each additional port requires only two more wires (pins).

Reduced pin-count 10Base-T MAC to transceiver interface

An apparatus for the electrolytic recovery of metals from liquid solutions containing recoverable metal values. The apparatus comprises a housing containing a tubular cathode concentrically disposed about and radially spaced from an elongated anode for defining a solution-containing volume there-between. An elongated tubular baffle means having a plurality of thoroughgoing perforations through the side wall thereof and along the longitudinal length thereof is disposed about a substantial length of the anode and is in registry with the inlet to a solution pumping means located within the housing that is utilized for circulating the solution in a helical flow pattern within the housing volume. As the solution is circulated by the pumping means, a substantial volume of the solution passes into the baffle means through its open end and through the perforations so that the presence of the baffle means inhibits the formation of vortices in the circulating solution and provides for uniform solution distribution within the volume to assure the presence of metal at the cathode even during relatively low concentrations of the metal in the solution. The housing is supported on a base containing the drive means for the pumping means in such a manner that it can be readily removed from the base for facilitating the removal of the collected metal from the cathode.

Metal recovery apparatus

An improved metal recovery unit for recovering metal from metal-laden liquids by electrolysis. The metal recovery unit comprises container means including a tubular cathode defining an upright substantially cylindrical wall having a top end closed by cover means and a bottom end closed by base means. In one embodiment, metal-laden liquid is introduced into the container means through a first opening in the cover means disposed generally adjacent the anode. Metal-depleted fluid is withdrawn from the container means through a further opening in the cover means at a location spaced apart from the first opening. An elongated anode is concentrically disposed within the cathode. The liquid within the container is recirculated by continually withdrawing a portion thereof from a passageway in the base means and reintroducing such fluid into the container means through an inlet passage in the cover means tangentially and angularly downward with respect to the cathode wall to develop a generally downwardly helical flow path of liquid adjacent the cathode. Control means provides at least first and second current densities at the cathode for depositing metal on the cathode at a reduced rate as metal is depleted from the recirculated fluid.
