A corona suppression apparatus for a dynamoelectric machine having a stator coil () covered with a corona suppression covering (), the apparatus including a member () conducting to ground () abutting a top layer () of the corona suppression covering proximate an overlap region () of the corona suppression covering. The member may be positioned in a gap () between the stator coil corona suppression covering and a stator core clamping finger () extending from the stator core proximate the stator coil. The member may also be configured to exert a compressive force on the overlap region by being compression biased between the corona suppression covering and the stator core clamping finger.

Power generation system interchangeability device and related methods

A method of cooling an electrodynamic machine having an inner-cooled stator winding consisting of a stator coil surrounding a cooling tube, including the steps of locating a hot-spot along a length of the stator coil through which the cooling tube runs, deforming the cooling tube at a tube location generally adjacent the hot-spot so as to increase the flow resistance of the cooling tube, and flowing a cooling medium through the cooling tube during operation of the electrodynamic machine to effect a heat transfer between the stator coil and the cooling medium.

Method of improving heat transfer in stator coil cooling tubes

A system for cooling hydrogen which is used for cooling an electric power generator, cooling of the hydrogen being effected by transfer of heat from hydrogen leaving the generator to cooling water extracted from a source which has a temperature determined by external conditions. The system is composed of an indirect heat exchanger for bringing cooling water into heat exchange communication with hydrogen leaving the generator and cooling water is supplied to the heat exchanger partially from the source and partially from cooling water leaving the heat exchanger. A temperature monitoring unit produces an indication of the temperature of the cooling water extracted from the source and a control unit is coupled to the temperature monitoring unit to cool the hydrogen to a desired temperature while maintaining a constant flow rate of cooling water into the heat exchanger.

Control of hydrogen cooler employed in power generators

A worn brush detector 43 for an electric generator. The worn brush detector 43 comprises a contactor strip 55 of electrically-conductive material secured to and insulated from a brush holder 28, the contactor strip 55 having a plurality of fingers 52 projecting downward from the strip 55 and generally perpendicular thereto, the fingers 52 being disposed adjacent to a hole 62 in the brush holder 28 and electrically insulated therefrom. An electrically insulated knob 61 on the opposite end of the fingers 52 projects through the hole 62 such that when a brush 25 is inserted into the holder 28 the corresponding finger 52 is pushed away from the holder by the knob 61 contacting the brush 25. When one of the brushes 25 has worn down a predetermined amount the brush 25 is disengaged from the knob 61 so that the corresponding finger 52 is caused to contact the holder 28 to generate an electrical signal. Light emitting diodes 76, electrically connected to each of the holders 28, is illuminated to indicate when a brush holder 28 having a worn brush 25 has been detected.
