A system for dispensing customized articles may include a vending machine that includes an article holding area having one or more articles that each include a film on at least a portion of the article, an energy generating print device, a processor, and a computer-readable storage medium. The computer-readable storage medium may include one or more programming instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to receive an indication of a selected article, receive a selection of one or more content items to be printed on the selected article, and cause the energy generating print device to apply energy to the portion of the selected article having the film. Applying such energy may cause a visual representation of the selected content items to be displayed on the portion of the selected article.

Vending machine for creating and dispensing personalized articles

A printer is configured to continue printing during maintenance of at least one printhead in the printer. The printer includes a plurality of printheads that each eject drops that overlap with adjacent drops ejected by another printhead. At least one printhead is selected for maintenance, moved to a position for performance of a maintenance operation, and returned to the position from which it was originally moved, while the remaining printheads continue to eject drops. The newly serviced printhead is returned to the position from which it was originally moved.

System and method to maintain printheads operational in a continuously printing system

A method and structure for a radio frequency identification (RFID) system including an RFID tag. The RFID tag can include a dampener configured to dampen a resonation of a resonator. Prior to dampening the resonation of the resonator using the dampener, the RFID tag may be configured to transmit a first response signal from a transmit antenna. Subsequent to dampening of the resonation of the resonator using the dampener, the RFID tag may be configured to transmit a second response signal that is different from the first response signal. The dampener may include a chemical agent or a fusible link.

A sacrificial coating on an intermediate transfer member of an aqueous ink imaging system is disclosed. The sacrificial coating is made from ingredients comprising: a waxy starch; at least one polycarboxylic acid cross-linking agent; at least one hygroscopic material; and at least one surfactant.

Sacrificial coating and indirect printing apparatus employing sacrificial coating on intermediate transfer member

A chipless RFID transponder is disclosed. The transponder comprises an antenna and a plurality of resonant structures that together define a spectral signature of the RFID transponder. Each of the resonant structures comprises conductive portions separated by interstitial regions. A reversible photoconductive material is disposed in the interstitial regions of the resonant structures between the conductive portions. The photoconductive material is positioned so as to shift the spectral signature of the RFID when exposed to radiation.

Photoconductive multi-resonator chipless RFID

A process and device for removing a solid ink mask printed onto a substrate is disclosed. The substrate is bent around a bar set perpendicular to the substrate, causing the mask to flake off the substrate. The process permits fast removal of solid ink masks.

Solid ink mask removal process

A chipless RFID transponder is disclosed. The transponder comprises an antenna and a plurality of resonant structures that together define a spectral signature of the RFID transponder. Each of the resonant structures comprises conductive portions separated by interstitial regions. A photo-polymerizable filler is disposed in the interstitial regions of the resonant structures between the conductive portions. The photo-polymerizable filler is positioned so as to shift the spectral signature of the RFID when exposed to radiation.

Photosensitive multi-resonator chipless RFID

A process of patterning a conductive film. The process comprises providing a substrate comprising a conductive film positioned on a surface of the substrate. A hydrophilic primer layer is coated on the conductive film. Droplets of etchant are ejected from an inkjet printer in an imagewise pattern onto the primer layer to pattern the conductive film. The primer layer is removed from the substrate.

Method of etching using inkjet printing

An indirect printing process comprises providing an inkjet printing apparatus comprising an intermediate transfer member. A wet sacrificial coating composition is deposited onto the intermediate transfer member. The wet sacrificial coating composition is made from ingredients comprising: a waxy starch; at least one hygroscopic material; at least one surfactant; and a liquid carrier. The wet sacrificial coating composition is dried to form a dry sacrificial coating. Droplets of ink are ejected in an imagewise pattern onto the dry sacrificial coating. The ink is at least partially dried to form a substantially dry ink pattern. Both the substantially dry ink pattern and the sacrificial coating are transferred from the intermediate transfer member to a final substrate. At least one cross-linking agent is applied to cross-link the sacrificial coating. The cross-linking agent is applied to at least one of: a) the intermediate transfer member prior to depositing the wet sacrificial coating composition, b) the wet sacrificial coating composition after depositing the wet sacrificial coating composition onto the intermediate transfer member, c) the dry sacrificial coating on the intermediate transfer member, d) the dry sacrificial coating on the final substrate.

Systems and methods for controlling ink component concentration for optimizing ink for use on specific media types, such as paper or plastic, include an in-line ink delivery system for mixing and delivering ink. The ink delivery system includes a first ink supply, a second ink supply, a mixing chamber or pot, and a print head connected to a print head reservoir. The ink delivery system may be configured to mix ink according to one of stored setpoints or acquired media data for media on which ink is to be printed.

Systems and methods for in-line gel ink mixing

A solid or phase change inkjet ink incorporating a polar acidic wax is described. The use of polar waxes as an ink additive improves the polarity of the ink and adhesion of the ink to paper. A method for applying the solid or phase change ink incorporating an acidic polar wax additive to form an image is also described.

Solid or phase change inks with improved properties

A printing device can be configured with different numbers of ink colors and ink types to print with a different cross-process direction print resolution for each ink color and ink type. The printing device includes a plurality of printhead arrays with each printhead array being configured to eject ink onto an image receiving surface at a first print resolution in a cross-process direction. Each ink supply in a plurality of ink supplies is configured to provide ink to one printhead array in the plurality of printhead arrays, and a controller is configured to operate the printhead arrays at one of at least two combinations of ink colors and ink types. The controller operates the printhead arrays ejecting a same ink color or a same ink type at a second print resolution in the cross-process direction that is different than the first print resolution.

A method processes image data for a color separation to reduce visible perception of misalignment of printheads in a plurality of serially arranged printheads. The method includes detecting cross-process edges in image values for objects in a color separation to be printed by a plurality of serially arranged printheads, and disproportionately mapping image values corresponding to the object in the color separation to one of the printheads in the plurality of serially arranged printheads.

An imaging device includes a media transport system configured to transport print media along a media path. A first print station is positioned along the media path that is configured to apply ink to a first side of the media. A first fixing assembly is positioned along the media path downstream from the first print station. A second print station is positioned along the media path downstream from the first fixing assembly that is configured to apply ink to a second side of the media. A second fixing assembly is positioned along the media path downstream from the second print station. A heater is positioned along the media path downstream from the second fixing assembly that is configured to heat the media to a gloss reducing temperature.
