A motion picture film reel is comprised of a pair of identical retaining members each formed with a flat, side cheek-plate member having a central axis of rotation and a hub-engaging region. An axially extending portion projects from each central, hub-engaging region in generally perpendicular alignment therewith. Each axially extending portion includes a base with a pair of diametrically opposed channels extending lengthwise along the base and a pair of resilient, diametrically opposed prongs. The prongs both have radially outwardly directed catches thereon. The prongs are inserted through a central, axial opening in a disk-shaped hub from the opposite sides thereof. The opposite edges of the core on the opposite sides of the hub form latching ledges so that the catches on the prongs releasably engage the latching ledges on the two opposite sides of the hub. The retaining members are thereby held releasably engaged to the central hub located therebetween. One or both retaining members can be removed simply by pressing the catches at the ends of the prongs together and pulling the retaining members apart from each other.

Recyclable motion picture reel

An improved self-adjusting mechanism for a cable-operated vehicle brake is disclosed. The operating lever is pivoted about an axis on a frame member which carries a fixed sector. The lever carries a first pawl, which is adapted to releasably hold the operating lever in position with respect to the frame, and a second pawl which locks the lever to a sheave sector fixed to a sheave which winds up the brake cable upon pivoting of the lever. A third sliding pawl is mounted on the sheave sector. When the operating lever is rotated beyond a predetermined degree in setting the brake, the sliding pawl abuts a stop on the frame. This moves the sliding pawl with respect to the sheave sector. When the handle is subsequently returned to its rest position, the sliding pawl allows a limited amount of rotation of the sheave sector with respect to the lever, which occurs due to tension exerted on the brake cable by the brake shoe return spring. In this way predetermined limited amounts of slack in the cable are automatically taken up, and excessive spring force on the cable is avoided.

Self-adjusting brake mechanism

A cable fastener assembly including a latch clip connected to a collar, the collar being positioned on one side of a wall and the latch clip positioned on the opposite side of the wall, the latch clip having finger portions abutting the wall, and constructed and arranged so that the fastener assembly can be mounted in walls of different thicknesses, seal means disposed between the collar and the wall, and between one end of the latch clip and a cable extending through the fastener assembly.
