A welding helmet with a sensor-operated light and photochromic visor lens including a welding helmet body configured, sized, and shaped to cover and substantially conform to a welder's forehead. A frustoconical protrusion, integrated into a front side of the welding helmet body, houses a battery-operated LED light bulb. At least one photosensor is disposed proximal the protrusion. Upon the detection of a welding arc by the at least one photosensor, an auto-darkening filtered visor lens darkens and the LED light bulb in activated. A battery compartment, an on-off switch, and a microchip are disposed on a rear side of the welding helmet body. A padded length-adjustable strap is pivotally disposed across the rear side of the welding helmet body.

A portable exercise apparatus retention mechanism with a base platform, an exercise apparatus retainer, and at least one extendible and retractable retaining structure fixed to the base platform with first and second end portions for engaging first and second opposed surfaces when at least one of the end portions is extended. A sub-panel can be secured to the base structure with a central portion of the retaining structure disposed therebetween. The retention mechanism can retain an exercise apparatus, such as a speed bag. The end portions can have contoured flanges. A supplementary engaging mechanism with extended and retracted positions can project laterally from the base platform. The supplementary engaging mechanism could comprise first and second members pivotally coupled to the base platform.

Portable speed bag retention mechanism

There is disclosed a method and a basket for use with a golf ball range picker having a support frame. The basket may include a pair of inwardly offset handles in the basket side walls for ease of lifting when a series of two or more like baskets are arranged in a closely spaced side by side configuration. A pair of front edges of front side wall sections are each tapered outwardly toward the front to minimize or at least greatly reduce the surface area formed by abutting vertical edges with a like basket, to help guide the golf balls being thrown by the range picker into the baskets, and not deflect them inadvertently away from entering the baskets by otherwise providing thick abutting vertical edges which could block the path of travel of the golf balls. A front flange is disposed substantially along the entire length of the front of the basket for resting securely on a front portion of the support frame, and a rear flange is adapted for resting securely on a back portion of the support frame.

A method and apparatus are disclosed for identifying protein-coding regions in a nucleic acid sequence. In order to predict the coding regions within a sequence, a single metric is used without reference or comparison to a predetermined noise level or signal-to-noise ratio. This single metric, periodicity at &frac13;, is analyzed using a discrete cosine transformation (DiCTion) function. For each open reading frame or sequence region, a score is generated using the discrete cosine transformation function. Regions within a sequence that have a score above a predetermined threshold are identified as protein-coding regions. The aspects of the invention may also be applied to gather other information from sequences, such as the location of the borders of a putative coding region, within a genomic sequence.
