A binaural hearing system includes a first hearing device and a second hearing device, each of which comprising: an input transducer; a transducer audio signal processor configured to provide a processed input transducer audio signal; an ear canal microphone; an ear canal audio signal processor configured to provide a processed ear canal audio signal; a first signal combiner configured to combine the processed input transducer audio signal with the processed ear canal audio signal to obtain an output transducer audio signal; a signal level detector configured to determine a signal level of (1) the output transducer audio signal or (2) an audio signal included in formation of the output transducer audio signal; and an output transducer; wherein the binaural hearing system further comprises a binaural excessive level detector connected to the first hearing device's signal level detector and the second hearing device's signal level detector.

A hearing aid includes an ambient microphone configured to receive and convert environmental sound into an electronic input signal, a hearing loss processor configured to process the electronic input signal in accordance with a hearing loss of a user, and generate an electronic output signal, a receiver, an ear canal microphone configured for converting ear canal sound pressure into an ear canal signal, an occlusion suppressor for reception and processing of the ear canal signal and for transmitting an occlusion suppression signal, and a signal combiner configured for combining the occlusion suppression signal and the electronic output signal to form a combined signal, and for transmitting the combined signal to the receiver, wherein the receiver is configured to receive the combined signal, and convert the combined signal into an acoustic output signal, and wherein the receiver has a frequency response with a lower cut-off frequency that is less than 40 Hz.

Hearing aid with occlusion suppression

An in-the-ear hearing aid has a housing with an audio input end and an audio output end. The housing is formed of two sections which are coupled together along a seam which extends between the two ends. An elastomeric sheath can enclose the housing.

Split shell system and method for hearing aids

Apparatus and methods for detecting the speed and/or location of a moving object within a target area are disclosed. A pitch speed measurement and strike zone detection apparatus in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention may include a support frame configured to support a pair of reflective surfaces on either side of a target area. A light source and receiver configured to direct a light beam back and forth between the reflective surfaces can be used to form a light curtain that detects when an object passes through a particular location within the target area. Multiple light sources and receivers may be employed to measure the speed of the object, and to determine whether the object passes through a particular strike zone. The device may include an adjustment mechanism and self-alignment laser to reposition the reflective surfaces, as necessary.

Baseball pitch speed measurement and strike zone detection devices

A variable-coupling quasioptical electron paramagnetic resonance apparatus. In one embodiment, the variable-coupling quasioptical electron paramagnetic resonance apparatus includes a variable coupling quasioptical resonance cavity constructed from two back-to-back Fabry-Perot interferometers. One Fabry-Perot interferometer is formed from two partially reflecting mirrors. The second Fabry-Perot interferometer is an interferometer formed from one of the partially reflecting mirrors and a back mirror. A sample to be studied is placed within the cavity adjacent the partially reflecting mirrors and between one of the partially reflecting mirrors and the back mirror. The relative spacing of the partially reflecting mirrors and the back mirror is adjustable. With this arrangement, the interferometer can be made to act as a single mirror with variable reflectivity, thereby permitting incident radiation reaching the sample to be varied precisely and continuously.

Variable-coupling quasioptical electron resonance apparatus

An apparatus for measuring the distance between an outwardly extending planar surface on a head space gauge and a planar surface surrounding the head space gauge on the barrel of a gun. This distance is used to calculate the head space of a gun. A housing is provided for abutment with the planar surface on the barrel and has an opening for receiving a sleeve of a dial indicator. A set screw arrangement is provided for securely holding the sleeve of the dial indicator in a desired relationship for the measurement process.

Device for measuring dimensions to calculate the head space for guns

A hearing aid that generally provides greater amplification for speech signals than noise signals. The hearing aid includes a microphone, variable highpass filter, transducer, and sensor assembly. The sensor assembly detects the amplitude of a band of low frequencies of the highpass filtered microphone signal, and provides a feedback signal to the variable filter to influence its cutoff frequency based on the characterisics of the highpass filtered microphone signal. The sensor also takes the time characteristics of the signal envelope into account, distinguishing between steady state noise-like signals and dynamically varying signals, such as speech. In response to loud, low frequency, substantially steady state signals, above a threshold amplitude, the sensor provides a feedback signal to the variable filter such that the cutoff frequency is raised. In response to softer, and/or higher frequency, and/or more dynamically amplitude varying signals, the cutoff frequency of the variable filter is raised less or left at a lower value.

Hearing aid with improved noise discrimination

A high efficiency amplifier circuit includes first and second modulator circuits. The output waveform from the first modulator is modulated by the input electrical signal to be amplified. The output waveform from the second modulator is simultaneously modulated with an inverted representation of the input electrical signal. Outputs from the two modulator circuits are coupled to a push-pull output bridge. The load is coupled across first and second output terminals of the bridge such that a tri-level output representation of the amplified input signal is applied thereto.

Switching amplifier

A bias current compensator to supply the input bias current of a transistor. The bias current compensator may be used, for example, with the controlled amplifiers used in an automatic gain control system. The bias current compensator prevents bias current changes, caused by a varying control signal, from appearing in the output of the controlled amplifier. The bias current compensator includes a current source, first, second, and third transistors, and a feedback amplifier.

Base bias current compensator

A hearing aid that is compact and efficient and that provides a high degree of control over its frequency response and also over its output level versus input level characteristic. The frequency response control includes an adjustable four pole high pass filter and an adjustable four pole low pass filter, to define the pass band, and an adjustable slope filter, to define the slope within the pass band. The control over the output level versus input level characteristic includes an input AGC system with well defined, independent control of compression threshold and compression ratio, an adjustable peak clipper, and a selectable output AGC system that tracks the peak clipper setting. The hearing aid incorporates a number of novel circuits including a state variable filter with adjustable corner frequency, a filter that can be continuously adjusted from a single pole low pass characteristic to a single pole high pass characteristic, a circuit to provide a range of reference voltages to accurately set the range of control currents used to control the corner frequencies of the state variable filters, a compansion system surrounding the filter network to effectively increase its limited dynamic range, a differential voltage threshold detector, a differential voltage controlled current source with a exponential relationship of output current to differential input voltage, an adjustable clipping circuit, a voltage clamp to prevent voltage excursions from going substantially below a substrate voltage, and bias compensation circuit to supply the input bias current of a transistor.

Electronic compression system

A hearing aid that is compact and efficient and that provides a high degree of control over its frequency response and also over its output level versus input level characteristic. The frequency response control includes an adjustable four pole high pass filter and an adjustable four pole low pass filter, to define the pass band, and an adjustable slope filter, to define the slope within the pass band. The control over the output level versus input level characteristic includes an input AGC system with well defined, independent control of compression threshold and compression ratio, an adjustable peak clipper, and a selectable output AGC system that tracks the peak clipper setting. Electronic frequency filter

A differential voltage threshold detector that may be used in a hearing aid circuit. The configuration includes an inherent differential/full wave operation, without the need for additional circuitry. The detector includes a differential transconductance stage, first and second 'top' current mirrors (which respond to the transconductance stage), first and second 'bottom' current mirrors (which respond to the top current mirrors) and a detector (which responds to the current levels in the mirrors). The detector effectively issues an output signal when the voltage applied to the threshold detector varies by more than a predetermined amount.
