A patient specific instrument is disclosed for correcting a condition present in a patient. The patient specific instrument includes a body that includes an inferior side having a bone engagement surface shaped to match a first surface of a first bone and a second surface of a second bone of a joint. The instrument also includes a superior side having a first guide feature and a second guide feature that together, with the bone engagement surface overlying the first surface and the second surface, are positioned to guide resection of the first bone and the second bone during a surgical osteotomy for correcting the condition. The body is configured to seat transverse to the joint with the bone engagement surface engaging the first surface of the first bone and the second surface of the second bone.

Patient-specific surgical methods and instrumentation

Systems and methods are disclosed for maintaining spacing between a superior spinous process and a superior lamina, and an inferior spinous process and an inferior lamina of adjacent vertebrae of a spine. A system may include an implant having a proximal superior surface with a superior concavity shaped to receive the superior spinous process, a proximal inferior surface with an inferior concavity shaped to receive the inferior spinous process, a distal superior surface, distal to the proximal superior surface, that faces the superior lamina, and a distal inferior surface, distal to the proximal inferior surface, that faces the inferior lamina. The implant may further have a threaded member extending along a proximal-distal direction, that rotates to urge the implant to move from a retracted configuration to a deployed configuration by urging the distal superior surface and the distal inferior surface to move apart.

Interspinous-interlaminar stabilization systems and methods

An implant assembly may include a screw with a head having a head feature and an implant. The implant may be securable to a bone of a patient with the screw. The implant may include a bone plate, a rotatable structure having a top surface and a bottom surface. The bottom surface may include a lock feature. The lock feature may engage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in a locked orientation and disengage the head feature when the rotatable structure is in an unlocked orientation. The rotatable structure may couple to the bone plate such that the rotatable structure is rotatable between the locked orientation and the unlocked orientation. The head feature may be one of a ridge and a radial groove and the lock feature may be the other one of the ridge and the radial groove.

Implant assembly including screw locking mechanism

An expandable intervertebral implant is disclosed for use in between adjacent vertebral bodies in a spine. An expandable intervertebral implant may include an upper plate having a first upper side and a second upper side, a lower plate having a first lower side, a second lower side, and a first lattice that connects the first upper side to the first lower side. The expandable intervertebral implant may further include a second lattice that connects the second upper side of the upper plate to the second lower side of the lower plate and an opening having a longitudinal axis between the upper plate, lower plate, first lattice, and second lattice. The expandable intervertebral implant may further include an expansion mechanism comprising a driver that expands the upper plate and the lower plate away from each other along a cephalad-caudal axis by deforming the first lattice and the second lattice.

Expandable inter vertebral implant

A patient-specific instrument is disclosed for performing an osteotomy. The patient-specific instrument includes a body that includes a proximal side, a distal side, a medial side, a lateral side, and an inferior side having a bone engagement surface shaped to match at least one of a first surface of a first bone, a second surface of a second bone, a third surface of a third bone, and a fourth surface of a fourth bone of adjacent joints. The instrument also includes a superior side having one or more guide features that are positioned to guide resection of at least one of the first bone, the second bone, the third bone, and the fourth bone. The body is configured to seat transverse to the adjacent joints with the bone engagement surface engaging at least one of the first surface, the second surface, the third surface, and the fourth surface.

Patient-specific osteotomy instrumentation

A method may be used to correct a condition present in a patient. The method may include obtaining a first bone model of a first bone of one or more bones of the patient's foot, and using at least the first bone model to generate a cutting guide model. The cutting guide model may define a first bone engagement surface shaped to match a first contour on the first bone, and a first guide feature that, with the first bone engagement surface overlying the first contour, is positioned to guide resection of the one or more bones as part of a surgical osteotomy for correcting the condition. The surgical procedure may be selected from a first group consisting of a bunion correction osteotomy, an Evans calcaneal osteotomy, and a medializing calcaneal osteotomy. The first bone may be selected from a second group consisting a metatarsus, a cuneiform, and a calcaneus.

An expandable intervertebral implant that includes an upper endplate having: a proximal end with a proximal ramp, and a distal end with a distal ramp. The proximal ramp includes a pair of upper proximal rails and the distal ramp includes a pair of upper distal rails. The expandable intervertebral implant also includes a lower endplate that includes a proximal end, a proximal ramp, a distal end, and a distal ramp. The proximal ramp includes a pair of lower proximal rails and the distal ramp includes a pair of lower distal rails. The at least one of the lower distal rails and the lower proximal rails is closer to a central plane than one or more of the upper distal rails and the upper proximal rails. The central plane divides a left side from a right side of the expandable intervertebral implant.

Expandable intervertebral implant system and method

A system for attaching first and second bone segments together may include a first component and a second component. The first component may have a first component bone engagement end implantable into a first bore formed in the first bone segment, and a first component attachment end. The second component may have a second component bone engagement end implantable into a second bore formed in the second bone segment, and a second component attachment end with a first projection that is movable, in response to a temperature change of the first projection, between insertion and locking configurations. In the insertion configuration, the first projection may be positioned to avoid interference with withdrawal of the second component attachment end from the first component attachment end. In the locking configuration, the first projection may be positioned to interfere with withdrawal of the second component attachment end from the first component attachment end.

Bone segment attachment system and method

An acetabular joint prosthesis may be designed to replace an acetabular articular surface. The prosthesis can include an acetabular cup, an augment, and an augment-securing mechanism configured to secure the augment to the cup. The mechanism can be reconfigured between an unlocked configuration in which a slider is slidable along a guide feature and a locked configuration in which the slider or guide feature is in an expanded form such that the slider is fixed in place relative to the guide feature. An unlocked configuration may include the augment-securing mechanism allowing rotation between the augment and the cup, with the augment being securable to the augment in multiple rotational positions. Also, the prosthesis may be configured to facilitate actuation between the unlocked and locked configurations, including moving an instrument to the prosthesis in an access direction that is substantially perpendicular to a rim of the cup.

Acetabular joint prosthesis

In embodiments of the invention, there is provided an external fixation system comprising a first plate and a second plate and connectors therebetween. Some or all of the connectors may be adjustable in length or angular position or both. Angular adjustment may comprise a fixed amount of friction and an adjustable amount of friction, and the permitted angular deflection can vary around the perimeter of the angular joint. An adjustable-length connector may comprise a tiltable nut that can either engage or not engage a threaded rod to provide both coarse adjustment and fine adjustment. Tactile or audible feedback may be provided. Other accessories may include: provisional alignment clamps to position parts of the patient's body; a K-wire alignment guide; a K-wire support post; a universal fixation bolt; a plurality of half-pins that can be used with a common support post or block; and a resilient retention device.

External fixation system

A polyaxial bone anchor assembly, comprising: a threaded screw portion comprising an externally threaded head end; a head body selectively disposed concentrically about the externally threaded head end of the threaded screw portion, wherein the head body defines an internally threaded hole in a bottom portion thereof; and an externally threaded compression saddle assembly selectively disposed within an interior portion of the head body and selectively engaging the externally threaded head end of the threaded screw portion; wherein the externally threaded compression saddle assembly and the externally threaded head end of the threaded screw portion are selectively disposed within the interior portion of the head body by engaging and passing through the internally threaded hole in the bottom portion of the head body.

A polyaxial bone anchor assembly, comprising: a threaded screw portion comprising a head end; a head body disposed concentrically about the head end of the threaded screw portion; and a saddle assembly disposed within the head body and selectively engaging the head end of the threaded screw portion; wherein, when the saddle assembly is translated within the head body into a first locked position, the head body is coupled to the threaded screw portion such that disengagement of the head body from the threaded screw portion is allowed; and wherein, when the saddle assembly is translated within the head body into a second locked position, the head body is coupled to the threaded screw portion such that disengagement of the head body from the threaded screw portion is prevented.
