A method, system, and display assembly are disclosed herein. The methods and system are directed to operating the multiple display assemblies included herein. The methods and system receive information, and based on the received information, engage at least a second display of the multiple display assembly. Also included herein is a multiple display assembly that incorporates an engager function to receive instruction instigate modes where a first display and a second display are provided.

Vehicle dashboard display

A display assembly includes an LCD that is transparent and has a viewing area and a blocked area which are reconfigurable. The display assembly includes a self-emissive display that is also transparent and extends along and in front of the LCD. A graphics processing unit is coupled with and controls the LCD and the self-emissive display. The LCD is controlled to allow light through the viewing area and the blocked area while the self-emissive display is off in a full analog mode. The LCD is controlled to block light through the viewing area and the blocked area while the self-emissive display is controlled to display an image in a full digital mode. Additionally, the LCD is controlled to allow light through the viewing area and block light through the blocked area while the self-emissive display is controlled to display an image in a hybrid mode.

Electronic display assembly

A mechanically reconfigurable instrument cluster is provided. The mechanically reconfigurable instrument cluster includes a first display portion to display information of a first type, the first display portion includes a stem about the first display portion's axis driven by a motor; a second display portion to display information of a second type, the second display portion being configured to move in an inward and outward direction.

A pointer device, an instrument cluster, and a display for an instrument cluster are described herein. The pointer device includes a pointer with a stem and paddle. The instrument cluster includes a technique to display a bar graph based interface with a mechanically driven pointer. The display allows for a dual representation employing multiple pointers, with one pointer dedicated to a dial-based display, and another pointer dedicated to a bar graph display.

A lighting system includes a display, a pointer, a motor, a lighting element, a lens, and a coating. The display has first and second opposed sides, with the pointer at least partially disposed on the first opposed side of the display, and the motor disposed on the second opposed side of the display for moving the pointer. The lighting element disposed within the motor on the second opposed side of the display lights the pointer. The lens is disposed on the first opposed side of the display with the pointer at least partially disposed between the first opposed side of the display and the lens. The coating, disposed on an underside of the lens facing the pointer and the display, is made of a material which when excited by light emits light onto the display creating a shadow of at least a portion of the pointer on the display.
