Methods for liberating organic carbonaceous products from mineral matrices such as oil shale and the products liberated by the present methods inter alia, the invention in a preferred embodiment subjects oil shale to resonance disintegration including inter alia rapid pressure and directional changes to essentially instantaneously vary forces acting thereon. Oil shale processed by non-impact processing according to the invention liberates kerogen from the mineral matrix to permit subsequent conversion to shale oil or other utilization.

Beneficiation of hydrocarbons from mineral matrices

Methods for reducing potential pollutants in carbonaceous materials such as coal, lignites and the like prior to utilization such as by combustion, the invention in preferred embodiments processes such materials by resonance disintegration including inter alia subjection to rapid pressure increases and decreases to reduce the materials to particle sizes of a preferable mean value of approximately fifty microns or less. Pollutants such as sulfur, mercury and other heavy metals bound in a mineral fraction and micronized by such processing can then removed by classification techniques based on physical differences between a micronized carbonaceous fraction and the mineral fraction. Combustion of the micronized carbonaceous fraction substantially free of the mineral fraction results in emissions having reduced levels of sulfur, mercury and other toxic substances. The methods of the invention further include removal of water from carbonaceous materials such as coal, lignites and the like by subjection of such materials to resonance disintegration.

Methods for reduction of pollutants from carbonaceous materials prior to combustion

Methods for processing of grains and the like and products produced by such processing, the invention in preferred embodiments subjects whole grains or portions of grains to rapid pressure and directional changes in a high velocity fluid stream to instantaneously vary forces acting thereon. Flours of reduced particle sizes having low starch value damage result, the present processing also permitting uniform blending of additives such as during comminution of the grains. Processed grains according to the invention are resistant to spoilage and clumping. Whole grain flours and white flours can be produced according to the invention. Bran, germ and endosperm of grains can also be separated.

Optical systems capable of use in a variety of lighting applications particularly including industrial high bay and similar applications, the systems of the invention deliver energy efficient and effective light distribution through use of dual reflector arrangements wherein an inner reflector having a divergent and convergent profile is stationary relative to a lamp to form an inner reflector/lamp assembly, a prismatic outer reflector being displaceable relative to the inner reflector/lamp assembly to produce differing photometric distributions.

Method and apparatus for assuring use of a fluorescent or similar high efficiency lamp in a screw base socket, the invention provides a circuit containing a screw base socket and an associated thermal sensing unit capable of interrupting power to the circuit on sensing of heat such as is generated by an incandescent or similar low efficiency lamp when mounted in the screw base socket. Practice of the method permits use of only fluorescent or similar lamping such as is incapable of sufficient heat generation to interrupt power to the circuit, the methodology of the invention preventing use of incandescent or similar energy inefficient lamping. The method and apparatus are particularly useful in the lamping of recessed downlighting fixtures.

Apparatus permitting adjustment of the length of a section of an illuminated sign such as is used to provide a visual indication of a particular service provided by a given vendor, such as a vendor of service station products and services, the invention provides for fitting of a last section of a succession of sections to a particular lengthwise dimension mandated by the structure to which the illuminated sign is mounted. Illumination sources, particularly sets of light emitting diodes, cause both forwardly and rearwardly directed light to be respectively diffused through a diffuser or reflected from a surface to which the sign is mounted to provide a glow yielding the intended visual affect. At least certain of the light emitting diodes are mounted by sliding elements movable along an elongated track to permit location of said light emitting diodes in an appropriate location within a section which has been trimmed to an appropriate length, thereby providing a desired illumination along the length of the trimmed section or along the length of a section which does not require adjustment of its lengthwise dimension.

A low pressure hot water parts washing apparatus recirculating a heated water/detergent solution and spraying same from a perforated manifold onto oily and dirt-laden parts carried by a rotary turntable. The turntable is peripherally mounted by bearings spaced about a conical solution reservoir tank to support parts without turntable tilting. The solution is drawn from the conical reservoir tank through apertures in a radiator tube housing heating elements, the elements being cleaned by a continual flow of solution passing thereover while efficiently heating the solution.

An improved pull-on clip intended to position and maintain in place a reflector trim within a downlighting housing or &ldquo;can&rdquo; and particularly to bias the trim against an opening in a ceiling to retain a finishing flange of the trim in place about the opening. The present clip can be manually assembled to the trim by means of a snap-fastening structure provided on an attachment end of the clip, the use of tools being unnecessary for assembly of the clip to the trim. The clip facilitates lamp positioning within the can and thereby within the fixture such that optimum lamp performance is obtained. A bifurcated distal body portion of the clip provides separately flexible finger portions each having at least two points thereon, the points engaging interior walls of the trim to provide positive connection thereto such that the flexing action of the fingers exert a seating force against the trim which snugly positions the trim about the ceiling opening, thereby providing a clean appearance and positive lamp placement. The invention particularly improves on the clip of U.S. Pat. No. 5,707,143.

A recessed downlighting fixture mountable in a ceiling between spaced joists or carried by T-bars and the like to direct light downwardly into an environmental space. The invention particularly takes the form of a pan assembly preferably formed of a thermoplastic material of a rigidity sufficient to support standard cans or reflector housings and associated lamping, electrical wiring inter alia. A junction box preferably formed of the same thermoplastic material is mounted to the pan assembly, access being gained to the interior of the box at opposite sides the box through positive latching doors which remain open to facilitate wiring operations within the box. The thermoplastic pan mounts adjustable bar hangers for rough-in of the downlighting assembly.
