A non-imaging concentrator is employed in an upside down configuration in which light enters a smaller aperture and exits a larger aperture. The input angle of light rays may be as large as 180 degrees, while the maximum exit angle is limited to the acceptance angle of the non-imaging concentrator. A dichroic filter placed at the larger aperture has a maximum angle of incidence equal to the acceptance angle of the non-imaging concentrator.

Method and apparatus for filtering and filtered light detection

A multi-spectral imager useful for weather mapping, comprising an array of filters on at least one focal plane array (FPA) including pixels. Each of the filters are associated with a different set of the pixels, and each of the filters transmit a portion of electromagnetic radiation, comprising a different band of wavelengths, to the set of the pixels associated with the filter. A circuit connected to the pixels reads out a signal outputted from each of a plurality of different pixels in the set and outputs the signals to an adder. The adder sums the signals from each of the plurality of different pixels in the set to form a sum used for generating a weather map.

Geostationary earth orbit (GEO) earth multispectral mapper (GEMM)

Disclosed herein are optical assemblies having thin, low profile shapes. These optical assemblies may be used with fiber coupled lasers and other light sources, including high power sources, to irradiate tissue at a wavelength suitable for inducing ablation or coagulation to a target depth, denaturation, thermal modification of a tissue, and/or preferential injury to a target tissue structure. Example optical assemblies can produce substantially uniform illumination patterns that are useful for treating superficial tissue, including the internal or luminal (e.g., esophageal) tissue. Some examples may have capability for cooling superficial tissue or skin, such as a detachable, reusable heat sink for active cooling without consumables, fluid pumps, or other cooling equipment.

Low profile apparatus and method for phototherapy

An optical design system generates a design state overview of a design of an optical system, the design state overview summarizing a current state and a target state of the design by describing a plurality of specifications for the optical system, the specification descriptions including target ranges for the specifications based on the target state of the design and further including current values for the specifications based on the current state of the design. The optical design system displays the design state overview. The optical design system updates the design state overview in response to the optical design system changing the current design for the optical system.

Specification-guided user interface for optical design systems

An apparatus and a method are provided for the treatment of soft tissue. The apparatus includes a light source and at least two optical assemblies. Each of the optical assemblies includes at least one optical element and a light-transmitting contact surface configured to transmit a substantially uniform distribution of light therethrough. The apparatus further includes at least two optical transmission devices each disposed between the light source and a corresponding one of the at least two optical assemblies. The apparatus also includes a handpiece to which the at least two optical assemblies are attached, and which is adapted to bring the light-transmitting contact surfaces of the at least two optical assemblies in contact with soft tissue disposed therebetween. The method includes compressing and substantially flattening portions of the tonsil tissue between light-transmitting contact surfaces of two opposed light emitting optical assemblies, introducing light into an optical element of each of the optical assemblies; and irradiating the tonsil tissue by directing the light from the optical element through the light-transmitting contact surfaces to the tonsil tissue in a substantially uniform light distribution.

Photothermal treatment of soft tissues

Various embodiments relate to opthalmoscopic devices, systems and methods for viewing the anterior chamber, trabecular meshwork, iris root, scleral spur, and/or related nearby structures in the eye. In some embodiments, devices, systems and/or methods may employ a plurality of gonioscopic optical elements that form a virtual image that can be imaged by a microscope directly in front of a patient (e.g., without tilting the patient's head). Various embodiments described herein may be useful for ophthalmologic diagnoses, treatments, monitoring and/or surgical procedures. Some embodiments include a gonioscopic attachment configured to attach to a conventional gonioscope and redirect light emitted by the gonioscope. Various embodiments described herein can be incorporated into disposable, single-use gonioscopes.

Gonioscope for improved viewing

One embodiment of the invention comprises a simplified light-weight head mounted displays comprising an off-axis combiner and a pair of plastic lenses. One of the lenses is a rotationally symmetric optical element and one of the lens is a non-rotationally symmetric optical element. This non-rotationally symmetric optical element comprises first and second lens surfaces that are tilted and decentered with respect to each other. One of these first and second lens surfaces may also include diffractive feature to provide a diffractive or holographic optical element for color correction.

Head mounted display devices

An illumination system and condenser for use in photolithography in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength region has a first non-imaging optic element collecting electromagnetic radiation from a source and creates a desired radiance distribution. A second non-imaging optic element receives the electromagnetic radiation from the first non-imaging optic element and redirects and images the electromagnetic radiation. The electromagnetic radiation from the second non-imaging optic element is suitable for being received by other conventional optical surfaces to provide a desired radiance distribution with a desired angular distribution and desired shape. Facets are used to provide the desired illumination over the desired illumination field. Reflective facets may be placed on the second non-imaging optic, which can reduce the number of mirrors and increase efficiency. The condenser and illumination system are used in combination with a projection optic to project the image of a reticle or mask onto a photosensitive substrate, such as a semiconductor wafer. The condenser of the present invention provides an efficient condenser in a compact package and provides desirable illumination properties for imaging relatively small feature sizes of less than 0.13 microns.

EUV condenser with non-imaging optics

A photolithography tool including an optical system for transmitting a beam of radiation toward a substrate is presented. The optical system includes a plurality of calcium fluoride lens elements, optically transmissive of the beam of radiation, each having respective optical axes and imparting a retardance to the beam. The plurality of calcium fluoride lens elements are aligned along an optical path for propagation of the beam of radiation therethrough. Each of the calcium fluoride lens elements includes a cubic crystalline calcium fluoride that is aligned with its [111] lattice direction, or a lattice direction optically equivalent to the [111] lattice direction, substantially parallel with its optical axis. A first calcium fluoride lens element of the plurality of calcium fluoride lens elements is rotated about its optical axis with respect to a second calcium fluoride lens element. The optical system has less than or about 0.015 waves RMS of wavefront aberration.

Correction of birefringence in cubic crystalline optical systems

An optical system includes multiple cubic crystalline optical elements and one or more polarization rotators in which the crystal lattices of the cubic crystalline optical elements are oriented with respect to each other to reduce the effects of intrinsic birefringence and produce a system with reduced retardance. The optical system may be a refractive or catadioptric system having a high numerical aperture and using light with a wavelength at or below 248 nanometers. The net retardance of the system is less than the sum of the retardance contributions of the respective optical elements. In one embodiment, all cubic crystalline optical elements are oriented with identical three dimensional cubic crystalline lattice directions, a 90&#xb0; polarization rotator divides the system into front and rear groups such that the net retardance of the front group is balanced by the net retardance of the rear group. The optical system may be used in a photolithography tool to pattern substrates such as semiconductor substrates and thereby produce semiconductor devices.

Methods for reducing aberration in optical systems

An optical system includes multiple cubic crystalline optical elements aligned along a common optical axis and having their crystal lattices oriented with respect to each other to minimize the effects of intrinsic birefringence and produce a system with reduced retardance. The optical system may be a refractive or catadioptric system having a high numerical aperture and using light with a wavelength at or below 248 nanometers. The net retardance of the system is less than the sum of the retardance contributions of the respective optical elements as the elements are oriented such that the intrinsic birefringences of the individual elements cancel each other out. In one embodiment, two [110] cubic crystalline optical elements are clocked with respect to one another and used in conjunction with a [100] cubic crystalline optical element to reduce retardance. Various birefringent elements, wave plates, and combinations thereof provide additional correction for residual retardance and wavefront aberrations. The optical system may be used in a photolithography tool to pattern substrates such as semiconductor substrates and thereby produce semiconductor devices.

An East-West separable ROADM particularly usable as a programmable N&#xd7;M optical add/drop multiplexer with an efficient pass through of optical channels in a multi-wavelength communication system. The East-West separable ROADM uses a grating that separates multi-channel optical signals into a plurality of optical channels, and combines a plurality of optical channels into multi-channel optical signals. Programmable mirrors and beam steerers can direct each optical channel to any of a plurality of fibers coupled to the device.
