The present invention provides a base composition that allows for the formulation of non-irritating cosmetic and/or dermatological compositions. The base composition includes one or more of electrolyte, buffer, mild preservative, lubricant, or any combinations thereof. It is preferred that one or more of the above components are eye-safe and/or eye-compatible. The present invention also provides photoprotective cosmetic and/or dermatological compositions that include the base composition and one or more sunscreen active components and are non-irritating to mammalian eyes.

Non-irritating compositions

The present invention is directed to an emulsion base for formulating cosmetic and dermatological compositions. The emulsion base has particular surfactant and/or emulsifier ratios such that a wide range of compositions with varying forms and additional components can be formulated without changing the ratio or amount of the primary and/or co-surfactant/emulsifier in the emulsion base or the amount of the emulsion base in the final composition. The emulsion base can be used in a system of formulating cosmetic and dermatological compositions.

Emulsion base for skin care compositions

The present invention provides a photo-protective composition that has a synergistic combination of at least one sunscreen agent and at least one carotenoid, which results in a composition with an increased SPF compared to a composition without the synergistic combination. Preferably, the composition also has at least one of the following additional components: emulsifier, emollient, skin-feel additive, moisturizing agent, film former/waterproofing agent, pH adjuster/chelating agent, preservative, or any combinations thereof.

Sunscreen compositions with SPF enhancer

A sunless tanning composition having dihydroacetone and an amphoglycinate (amphoacetate) in an amount effective for sunless tanning is provided. Also provided is a method of sunless tanning having the step of topically applying to the skin an effective amount of a sunless tanning composition having dihydroacetone and an amphoglycinate.

Sunless tanning composition and method of sunless tanning

The present invention provides a sunless tanning substrate having one or more sunless tanning enhancers, which adjust the rate of color development and/or adjust or customize the color developed on the skin. The present invention further provides a method of sunless tanning comprising the step of using the sunless tanning substrate of the present invention either prior to application, simultaneously with application, after application, or any combinations thereof, of one or more sunless tanning actives or agents to the skin. The present invention also provides a sunless tanning kit that includes one or more of the sunless tanning substrates.

Sunless tanning substrate

The present invention is directed to a cosmetic composition that has an amount of at least two rheology-modifying agents such that the viscosity of the composition remains stable over a broad temperature range. The compositions of the present invention may also include at least one of the following additional components: sunscreen agent, SPF booster, secondary emulsifier, emollient, moisturizer, humectant, film former/waterproofing agent, bio-active (functional) ingredient, pH adjuster/chelating agent, preservative, fragrance, effect pigment, color additive, or any combinations thereof.

Sunscreen compositions

An in vitro method for the prediction of in vivo UVA protection by a composition with sunscreen properties. The method includes the steps of: determining in vivo SPF; determining in vitro SPF based on the sunscreen's absorbance spectrum in the UV region; normalizing the absorbence spectrum based on integration area of UVA1; and calculating the PFA-PPD in vitro.

In vitro prediction of sunscreen PFA values

There is provided a composition comprising one or more photoactive compounds and one or more optimization agents. Surprisingly, the composition requires a small amount of optimization agent to efficiently optimize the polarity, critical wavelength, SPF, PFA, Star Rating, photostability, or any combinations thereof, of the composition. Subsequently, an efficient sunscreen composition is achieved.

Sunscreen composition

The present invention is a sunscreen composition that has at least one sunscreen agent and at least one glucoside emulsifier. The composition also has water. Preferably, the sunscreen composition also has at least one of the following additional components: emulsifier other than glucoside, emollient, skin-feel additive, moisturizing agent, film former/waterproofing agent, pH adjuster/chelating agent, preservative, or any combinations thereof. The composition is a stable oil-in-water emulsion.

The present invention provides a sunless tanning composition having (a) a sunless tanning agent selected from the group consisting of: dihydroxyacetone, melanin, mahakanni, erythrulose, and any mixtures thereof, and (b) an application indicator agent selected from the group consisting of: henna, caramel, and mixtures thereof. Optionally, a color fixative may be included.

Sunless tanning compositions

The present invention is a sunscreen composition that protects the scalp and hair from the sun's rays. The composition contains at least one sunscreen agent in combination with a cinnamido alkyl amine cationic quaternary salt. In addition, a method for protecting the scalp and hair by applying an effective amount of the composition is provided.
