A hydraulic system for an electro-mechanical transmission includes an electrically-powered main pump, a battery powered auxiliary pump and an output pump. The main pump provides fluid to transmission components such as a torque-transmitting mechanism. The auxiliary pump provides fluid pressure to engage the torque-transmitting mechanism when electric power to the main pump is unavailable or the main pump is otherwise inoperable. The engaged torque-transmitting mechanism enables rotation of an output member which mechanically powers the output pump so that it may provide fluid to the transmission components in lieu of the main pump. A method of providing fluid to transmission components is also provided.

Hydraulic system for an electro-mechanical transmission and method of providing fluid to transmission components

A hybrid electromechanical transmission for a tracked vehicle includes a drive motor and a steer motor with separate propulsion paths to output members of the transmission. A two-speed range package is provided, including an input planetary gear set and first and second clutches. The first and second clutches are selectively alternatively engagable to establish two speed ratios between the drive motor and the remainder of the transmission. Additionally, the drive motor and the steer motor are preferably designed with a module construction, allowing for easy connection and removal for serviceability via the use of axial V-clamps.

Electro-mechanical transmission

An assembly (10) by which to effect incremental adjustments to the end play, or preloading, to a bearing set (12). Relatively rotatable first and second ring means (25 and 35) have contiguously juxtaposed and interacting ramp surfaces (29 and 36). In addition, the first ring means is operatively secured to the housing (14) in which the bearing set is supported in such a manner as to preclude rotation of the first ring means (25) with respect to the housing (14). A tang (30) presented from the first ring means (25) may interact with a slot (31) in the housing (14) to secure the first ring means (25) against rotation. The second ring means (35) is selectively rotatable with respect to the first ring means (25) to effect axial translation of the first ring means (25) by virtue of the interaction between said opposed, contiguously juxtaposed ramp surfaces (53) and 54). A latch plate (40) is disposed in proximity to the second ring means (35), and a tang (41) is also operative between the latch plate (40) and the housing (14) tro preclude rotation of the latch plate (40). A vernier locking means (45) is incrementally interactive between the latch plate (40) and the second ring means (35) selectively to secure the second ring means (35) against rotation and thereby secure the first lock ring (25) against axial translation.

End play and preload adjusting assembly for tapered bearings

A power transmission has a housing comprised of an end support, a casing, an end cover, a converter housing, an input shaft, an output shaft and a pair of identically dimensional countershafts. A bushing and oil feed sleeve are positioned on each end of each countershaft for cooperating with the end support connecting the housing for alignment therebetween and with the casing for alignment therebetween. Each countershaft has a pair of ratio gears rotatably disposed thereon and meshing with respective output gears rotatable with the output shaft and a friction clutch is provided for each ratio gear. Four of the friction clutches which are disposed on the countershafts are identical in construction. A fifth clutch assembly, in line with the input shaft, can be shortened, if desired, by the elimination of one friction plate and one reaction plate. Each clutch has an apply piston which cooperates with respective lube passaged formed in the shaft to control lubricant and cooling flow to each respective clutch during engagement. A reverse gear pair has one gear member connectible to one countershaft by a synchronizer clutch and one of the friction clutches and the other gear member drivingly connected with a ratio gear on the other countershaft. A park pawl secured to one of the reverse gear members is provided to obtain a park gear having a torque ratio greater than one with the output shaft thereby providing improved disengagement loading in the park system.

Countershaft power transmission with dowel pin and seal ring structure

A power transmission has a housing comprised of an end support, a casing, an end cover, a converter housing, an input shaft, an output shaft and a pair of identically dimensional countershafts. A bushing and oil feed sleeve are positioned on each end of each countershaft for cooperating with the end support connecting the housing for alignment therebetween and with the casing for alignment therebetween. Each countershaft has a pair of ratio gears rotatably disposed thereon and meshing with respective output gears rotatable with the output shaft and a friction clutch is provided for each ratio gear. Four of the friction clutches which are disposed on the countershafts are identical in construction. A fifth clutch assembly, in line with the input shaft, can be shortened, if desired, by the elimination of one friction plate and one reaction plate. Each clutch has an apply piston which cooperates with respective lube passages formed in the shaft to control lubricant and cooling flow to each respective clutch during engagement. A reverse gear pair has one gear member connectible to one countershaft by a synchronizer clutch and one of the friction clutches and the other gear member drivingly connected with a ratio gear on the other countershaft. A park pawl secured to one of the reverse gear members is provided to obtain a park gear having a torque ratio greater than one with the output shaft thereby providing improved disengagement loading in the park system.

Power transmission

A hydraulic retarder has a control valve mechanism with a regulator valve for controlling the pressure of the fluid delivered to the retarder as a function of operator demand and an operating parameter of the retarder. The regulator valve has an opening pressure bias that is determined by a retarder signal valve which is responsive to an operator input and a closing pressure bias determined by the outlet pressure of the retarder.

Hydraulic retarder and control

The vehicle drive transmitting mechanism for a track laying vehicle has a coupling between the transmission output shaft and the final drive input. This coupling is disengageable from the transmission output shaft to permit vehicle towing or transmission removal. The coupling is movable from the drive connecting position to two other positions so that during towing, a neutral condition is attained and during transmission removal, a locking arrangement at the final drive is attained.
