An end face seal especially adapted for use in severe service environments such as for sealing track pins of crawler type tractors. The seal includes a primary annular seal, having a radially extending flange portion for contacting a mating surface in face sealing engagement and an axially extending flange portion, and a secondary annular sealing member positioned in use about the axial flange portion. The cross section of the secondary annular sealing member is shaped so as to accommodate both axial and radial compressive loads, and is preferably generally parallelogram-shaped in an unstressed condition. The seal also includes an annular reinforcing member of generally L-shaped cross section adapted to distribute the axial load to the seal face and to prevent radially outward deformation of the outermost portion of the radial flange of the primary seal ring.

Reinforced track pin assemblies and seals therefor

A seal assembly for reception in a tapered counterbore which seal assembly includes a primary metal sealing ring with a seal band disposed on one end face thereof, and which further includes a frusto-conical or other tapered center portion and an opposite end portion which is contoured to receive and hold a secondary sealing ring, and a secondary sealing ring of annular configuration and having a generally central portion including, in its unstressed condition, a body with a cental body portion of generally circular cross section and including means lying outside the central body portion and adapted to engage the counterbore and/or the opposite end portion of the primary seal ring for positive location of the secondary seal ring during installation, with the counterbore or opposite end portion engaging means being positioned so as to move out of engagement with said tapered center portion and said counterbore respectively, so that said counterbore and tapered center portion, respectively, engage the round surface portions of said sealing rings central body portion when said primary and secondary sealings rings are in position of use within said counterbore and under a sealing load.

Two piece seal adapted for simplified installation

A mechanical end face seal assembly with first and second, relatively rigid, primary seal rings of a generally T-shaped cross-section and a pair of annular secondary elastomeric seal rings. The secondary rings provide a combination of radial compressive load and axial end face load and are of generally parallelogram shaped cross-section. One secondary seal member extends radially outwardly from its associated primary seal ring and the other secondary ring extends radially inwardly from its associated primary ring.

Heavy duty end face seal with asymmetrical cross-section
