Methods and systems for improving paging efficiency of a user equipment method including obtaining a history of the user equipment, the history including one or more past locations of the user equipment, obtaining a mobility pattern of the user equipment, the mobility pattern including one or more of a plurality of mobility categories, determining a confidence level for an associated location of the user equipment based on at least one of the mobility pattern and the history, the confidence level indicating a level of confidence that the user equipment is at the associated location, and deriving a paging range based on the confidence level, the paging range including one of a plurality of paging scopes, each of the plurality of paging scopes including at least one of a geographic or location extent, a paging frequency, a single node, a plurality of nodes, a tracking area and a plurality of tracking areas.

Adaptive paging using user equipment localization method in a network

A method and apparatus for efficient paging of user equipment (UE) in an LTE network is disclosed. In addition to storing the Last Seen eNodeB (LSeNB) for each UE attached to a mobility management entity (MME), the MME also maintains an LSeNB List of the eNodeBs seen immediately before the LSeNB for each UE. When a notification for a UE arrives at the MME, then MME can select from several paging methods, including paging only the LSeNB to locate the UE and sending a paging request LSeNB as well as to the list of eNodeBs seem immediately before the LSeNB. The MME can send a paging request to more than a single eNodeB but less than a full Tracking Area. Efficient paging is especially needed for voice over internet protocol (VoIP) calls where a call will go to voice mail if a page isn't answered quickly.

Predictive paging based on mobility history and movement patterns

Various methods and devices are provided to address the need to mitigate the effects of an overload and/or prevent an overload from cascading. In one method, devices are paged () according to a first paging policy regarding paging attempts. It is then determined () that a reduced availability condition exists for network equipment supporting the first paging policy. While this reduced availability condition exists, user equipment is paged () according to an adapted paging policy which is more limited in paging attempts than the first paging policy.

Method and apparatus for paging policy adaptation in a wireless network

A method, in one example, comprising the steps of receiving a tracking area identifier indicating a tracking area where a user equipment (UE) is located, and updating a current tracking area of the UE based on whether the tracking area identifier indicates that the UE is currently in a previously visited tracking area.
