The present invention is directed to a manually actuated aspiration device, aspiration system and a method of use to enable and facilitate en bloc removal of undesirable intravascular material, including, but not limited to, thrombus, embolus, or vegetation through a working lumen of a suction cannula during minimally invasive percutaneous procedures. The aspiration device includes valves oriented in opposite direction to control the fluid flow through the aspiration system and into a waste collection component. Alternatively, the aspiration system further comprises a filter that removes undesirable intravascular material prior to reinfusing blood into a patient's vasculature.

Device and method for manual aspiration and removal of an undesirable material

A medical device comprises a flexible member that can be adhesively attached to a housing of the medical device, allowing implantation of the medical device into a body through an incision of reduced size. The flexible member can be attached to the housing either before or after implantation into the body. The flexible member comprises suture locations, including a permeable membrane or a suture hole, for suturing the medical device to tissue of the body. The suture holes can be filled with a substance penetrable by a suture needle, to minimize tissue ingrowth before or after suturing.

Implantable medical device for improved placement and adherence in the body

An implantable port includes a bottom portion having a needle-penetrable region running continuously along a majority of a perimeter of the implantable port. A method for customized suturing of an implantable port also includes creating a port pocket, and advancing a suture needle through the needle-penetrable region. The needle-penetrable region could be a self-sealing elastomer, such as silicone. The method could include the step of determining suture locations after the port pocket is created.

Implantable medical device for improved placement in the body

A catheter introducer assembly includes an introducer sheath mounted on a dilator. The distal end of the dilator protrudes beyond the distal end of the sheath and defines an arrowhead having a proximally facing surface that cooperates with the distal end of the sheath to reduce the risk of tissue trauma while facilitating smooth entry into and through tissue. The proximal hubs of the dilator and sheath are configured with respect to the relation between the distal end of the dilator and sheath to provide smooth controlled withdrawal of the dilator through the sheath. The sheath is attached, at its proximal end, to a housing with a mechanical connection that does not require the use of adhesives, welding or other bonding techniques. The connection also may incorporate an integral strain relief for the proximal end of the sheath. The housing at the proximal end of the sheath includes a proximal end cap construction that is secure and is easily attached without requiring ultrasonic welding or other bonding techniques. Methods are described for assembling the introducer and for forming the arrowhead portion of the dilator.

Catheter introducer

A catheter introducer sheath comprises a polyimide tube manufactured by a dispersion coating process. The inner diameter of the tube is constant over its entire length. The thickness of the tube is 0.005 inches which is an optimal compromise between the size or outer diameter of the sheath and its ability to resist kinking when inserted into the patient's vasculature.

An improved self-sealing gasket provides hemostasis while reducing the force required to move a catheter or guidewire positioned within the gasket. Slits formed on one surface of the gasket intersect with a central aperture formed on the opposite face of the gasket. An annular ring formed on the gasket assists in retaining the gasket within a catheter introducer. An annular shelf may be provided distally of the gasket to prevent dislodgement of the gasket if an instrument is inserted into the introducer off axially.
