A method, apparatus and non-transitory computer readable medium for printing in grayscale are disclosed. For example, the method includes receiving a source profile of a color image, converting the source profile into a device specific color space profile, converting the device specific color space profile into a grayscale device specific color space profile that only has black separation values for each output node using a destination profile that is device specific and printing the color image in a grayscale using the grayscale device specific color profile that reproduces a tone of each color of the source profile of the color image.

A system and method for automatic selection of at least one spot color to be processed by a digital image press includes identifying process colorants to determine principal and extended gamuts thereof. Spot color recipes of the principal and extended gamuts are retrieved from a spot color library, along with a set of attributes corresponding to use of colorants by the digital image press. For each spot color recipe, a combined attribute score is calculated relating to the principal gamut and the extended gamut, spot color recipe of the extended gamut or principal gamut is then identified for use based upon which has the higher combined attribute score. The spot color library is then updated in accordance with the identified recipe for production of each spot color. Print jobs are then output with the appropriate spot color recipe automatically selected.

Subsequently, these methods and devices receive a print job and such methods identify the secondary halftone state of the print job. With this, the methods and devices can identify a secondary color profile from the secondary color profiles that corresponds to the secondary halftone state and raster image process the print job using the secondary color profile to produce rasterized output. Then, these methods and devices print the rasterized output on print media using a print engine of the printing device.

An input L* can be compensated based on L*in a destination space with respect to shadow colors while configuring a perceptual LUT during a profile phase. Input opponent color components a* and b* can be compressed based on how much L* is compensated to generate newly compressed L*a*b* values. The newly compressed L*a*b* values can be treated as an output L*a*b* to configure the perceptual LUT for color balanced compression thereof. Finally, an operation can be performed for recording in the output LUT, optimized CMYK values with respect to the output L*a*b* to configure the perceptual LUT in an ICC profile and result in the color balanced compression thereof.

Methods and systems for dynamically detecting and switching profiling configuration in digital rendering. A set of color patches utilized for profiling can be rendered via a calibration engine and the color patches can be measured via inline/offline spectrophotometer. A high-accuracy MFD model can be built based on measurement from the color patches. A set of measurement values for a set of CMYK color probes can be obtained directly from the measurement and/or by processing through a MFD model. A classifier can be configured to determine a toner set based on the predicted and/or measured Lab values. The profiling procedure then automatically sets up a parameter set for the corresponding toner set to build a color look-up table via an inversion and optimization function. A destination ICC profile can be built based on the color LUTs. The system can handle multiple toner sets and produce optimized color outcome for each toner set.

In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, apparatus are provided that include a color data conversion subsystem configured to convert color data in order to produce device-dependent output color separation data. The color data conversion subsystem has been configured by gamut mapping including providing a gamut in a hue-based color space and applying color distance adjustments to the hue-based color space. A hue dependent lightness preservation operation can also be part of the subsystem.

Disclosed is a processor-implemented method for limiting ink output of marked image data using a target printer. A processor determines a constrained output (CMYK) LUT node data set for outputting the image data using the target printer to thereby mark the image data using a limited amount of ink. The constrained set is determined by re-encoding an encoded emulation output data, i.e., constraining an initial LUT node data set for the target printer based on a second. ICC profile with a smaller gamut. This allows the printer to inherit the smaller gamut. By constraining the initial LUT as disclosed herein, the final, constrained set emulates the smaller gamut in the target printer without suffering from pathological outcomes. The method enables the printer to inherit a natural ink limit methodology for the output colors that is more relatively proportional, and in a single destination profile.

Methods and systems receive a print job and determine whether the print job specifies one or more extended gamut color marking materials. The extended gamut color marking materials comprise marking materials having colorants other than standard colorants. The standard colorants consist of cyan, magenta, yellow, black (CMYK). When the print job does not specify one or more of the extended gamut color marking materials, the methods and systems determine whether the print job will perform better with one or more of the extended gamut colorants in addition to the standard colorants. The methods and systems print the print job use the extended gamut colorant(s) and the standard colorants when the print job specifies the extended gamut color marking material, and when the print job will perform better with one or more of the print system's extended gamut colorants in addition to the standard colorants.

A projector for masking out one or more objects between the projector and a screen. The projector includes an image capture sensor configured to produce a captured screen image. The projector further includes a processing device configured to receive a video-in signal, create a masking image that corresponds to at least a portion of the captured screen image, and produce a video-out signal, wherein the video-out signal comprises a combination of the video-in signal and the masking image. A panel controller in the projector receives the video-out signal and causes at least one or more pixels of at least one panel to be closed based upon the masking image such that any objects positioned between the projector and the screen are masked from any light projected by the projector.

Methods of performing print engine calibration create a color space conversion equation for a scanner of a class of printing devices, print test patches on a sheet, and scan the test patches using a scanner of the printing device to produce a scanned RGB value for each test patch. Such methods convert each scanned RGB value to an XYZ pseudo space using the color space conversion equation to produce XYZ values. These methods compare the XYZ values to second XYZ values of white paper to generate DeltaE curves for each of the test patches relative to white paper. The DeltaE curves are interpolated to form an equivalent aim curve. After the equivalent aim curve is determined, the methods periodically calibrate the same or an additional printing device that is within the class of printing devices using the color space conversion equation to produce second XYZ values.
