Containerized gas separation system comprising (a) a container having an interior, an exterior, and an exterior volume defined by the exterior dimensions of the container and (b) a pressure swing adsorption system installed in the interior of the container and adapted to recover a product gas from a feed gas mixture, the pressure swing adsorption system being adapted to deliver the product gas at a product gas flow rate, wherein the ratio of the exterior volume of the container to the product gas flow rate is less than about 2000 ft/(ton per day).

Rapid cycle pressure swing adsorption processes, systems and apparatus for the separation of a multi-component feed gas mixture by selectively adsorbing at least one more readily adsorbable component in a bed of adsorbent material are provided.

Pressure swing adsorption system for gas separation

A pressure swing adsorption process including an adsorption apparatus having a plurality of beds and counter-currently purging at least two of the beds simultaneously throughout the process. The number of beds and number of pressure equalization steps are not particularly limited, but a ten-bed, four pressure equalization step process in advantageous. In addition, other ten-bed, four pressure equalization step processes are disclosed which do not counter-currently purge at least two of the beds simultaneously, but which have an average of at least two of the ten beds being simultaneously regenerated by simultaneously providing off-gas from a feed end of each of the beds to an off-gas line.

Pressure swing adsorption process with multiple beds on purge and/or with ten beds and four pressure equalization steps

An improved adsorption process is provided for purifying hydrogen from a feed gas mixture including hydrogen and at least one impurity selected from the group consisting of carbon monoxide and nitrogen. The process includes providing an adsorption apparatus having a discharge end adsorption layer containing an adsorbent with a Henry's law constant (K,) at 70&deg; F. for the impurity from about 0.5 to about 2.4 mmole/g/atm. The product gas collected from the adsorption apparatus is high purity (99.99&plus;%) hydrogen.

Optimum adsorbents for H2 recovery by pressure and vacuum swing absorption

A cryogenic air separation unit (ASU) provides flows of oxygen and nitrogen. The oxygen is used in a process such as COREX iron making or the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons, or in an oxycoal fuelled blast furnace, producing an off-gas containing useful components (H.sub.2 and CO) and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is removed by pressure swing adsorption using nitrogen from the ASU as a regeneration gas and the purified off-gas becomes a feed gas to a further process such as production of iron by direct reduction of iron ore or the production of a NH.sub.3 making ammonia or is recycled into the first process as a feed gas.
