A host device, such as a television, automatically pairs with target devices, such as remote controls. There may be multiple host devices, and the host devices may exchange information that specifies valid, trusted, or authorized target devices, the signal level or range of signal levels at which the host device communicated with the target device, and other information. The host devices detect when a specific target device meets a transition criterion. Responsive to the transition criterion, a new host device automatically connects to the target device, and a prior host device that previously connected to the target device no longer responds to the target device.

A custom Application-Specific Integrated Circuit ('ASIC') that simultaneously processes data packets and multimedia packets, including Voice over Internet Protocol ('VoIP') packets, that are transmitted by a plurality of clients connected to a central server over a network, such as the Internet, and that are also transmitted by the central server to the plurality of servers. The custom ASIC may be configured to restrict the receipt of both the multimedia and the data packets to selected, predetermined clients connected to the central server and prevent the receipt of such packets by non-authorized clients. Systems and methods to operate wireless devices are provided herein. In an exemplary system a first wireless device coupled to a consumer electronics device is operated in a sleep mode. It is determined whether there is a second device is operating in the same bandwidth spectrum as the first device. If there is a second device operating in the same bandwidth spectrum, then the first device is switched to a sniff mode of operation.

Embodiments of the present invention enable energy transfer via short-range RF communication between a main device and an associated device, thereby allowing the main device to energy charge the associated device. In an embodiment, energy transfer via NFC is enabled between a Bluetooth enabled cellular phone and a Bluetooth headset. In another embodiment, energy transfer via NFC is enabled between a Bluetooth enabled digital camera and a Bluetooth enabled digital frame.

The TDR circuit can be part of the peripheral device diagnostics.
