An external transmitter apparatus for a transcutaneous energy transfer (TET) system for supplying power for use in energising an implantable medical device is disclosed, the apparatus comprising an external transmitter apparatus comprising a plurality of transmitter coils for delivering power transcutaneously to one of a plurality of receiver coils of an implantable receiver apparatus of the TET system when located in proximity thereto. The external transmitter apparatus is provided with power by a pulsed power supply. The coils of the external transmitter apparatus and the implantable receiver apparatus may be printed on flexible substrates. Also disclosed are methods of operating such a system, an external transmitter apparatus for use in such a system, an external transmitter apparatus and an implantable receiver apparatus including flexible coils.

Transcutaneous energy transfer systems and methods

A method of determining information concerning the identity of an individual comprising measuring at least one biometric of the individual comprising at least one bio-potential waveform generated by the individual's heart, extracting a plurality of characteristics from the bio-potential waveform comprising any of an approximate location of a point of a P peak, an approximate location of a Q-point of a QRS peak system, an approximate location of an R-point of a QRS peak system, an approximate location of an S-point of a QRS peak system, an approximate location of a point of a T peak, using the characteristics to calculate at least one waveform parameter, comparing at least one calculated waveform parameter with at least one previously-acquired waveform parameter to generate a score, and using the score to determine information concerning the identity of the individual.

Method and apparatus for determining information concerning the identity of an individual

A flexible biomedical surface electrode comprises an insulating substrate (), a conductive electrode layer () screen-printed on the substrate, and an insulating masking layer () on the electrode layer. The masking layer is configured to expose selected regions () of the electrode layer. An electrically conductive adhesive gel layer () on the masking layer makes electrical contact with the exposed regions of the electrode layer.

Biomedical surface electrode

A two-part sensor () comprising a first part comprising a sensing device () which senses information, a second part comprising a receiving device () which receives a measure of the information, and a connector () comprising at least one first portion () which is magnetic and is attached to one of the sensing device and the receiving device, and at least one second portion () which is magnetizable and is attached to an other of the sensing device and the receiving device, wherein the first portion and the second portion are connectable and disconnectable to connect and disconnect the sensing device and the receiving device.

Sensors

A system for identifying gases, the system having a plasma generator for generating a plasma using the gas to be identified and an array of detectors for detecting light emitted from the plasma. By analysing the output of the detectors, the gas can be identified. The system includes a plasma display () having two glass plates (and) patterned with strips that form the plasma electrodes. The intersection between the strips defines pixels which are individually addressable.

System and method for gas discharge spectroscopy

A system of measuring the flow of a human or animal bodily action or fluid along or through a bodily flow conduit using two or more sensor means located on the body and along or around the path of the conduit is described. Bodily fluids whose flow is measurable by the present invention include blood, semen and urine. The present invention is a non-invasive way of measuring the flow of a bodily action or fluid along or through a conduit, such as pulse wave velocity. Pulse wave velocity in the brachial artery can provide an indication of vessel wall quality or stiffness, which in turn, can be used to indicate how an individual's vascular system is ageing. Disorders such as stenosis and complete occlusion can be diagnosed by accurate measurement of pulse wave velocity.
