A firearm can have a bolt having a plurality of locking lugs that are configured to have a shear area that is larger than that of a standard M16/M4. A bolt carrier can have a bolt that has a double cut cam having an unlocking cam surface that has sufficient dwell increase to delay a start of unlocking when the bolt carrier is used in an M4 carbine. A stepped extractor pin may be provided that prevents disengagement of the extractor pin. A tube can be configured to provide gas from a barrel of the firearm to the piston via the carrier key. The tube can have a heat radiator formed from triangular shaped threads on at least a portion of the tube. A piston on the bolt and can have a plurality of rings including pairs of mating rings that are formed and maintained as a matched pair.

Firearm systems and methods

A firearm can have a bolt having a plurality of locking lugs that are configured to have a shear area that is larger than that of a standard M16/M4. A bolt carrier can have a bolt that has a double cut cam having an unlocking cam surface that has sufficient dwell increase to delay a start of unlocking when the bolt carrier is used in an M4 carbine. A stepped extractor pin may be provided that prevents disengagement of the extractor pin. A tube can be configured to provide gas from a barrel of the firearm to the piston via the carrier key. The tube can have a heat radiator formed from triangular shaped threads on at least a portion of the tube. A piston on the bolt can have a plurality of rings including pairs of mating rings that are formed and maintained as a matched pair.

A firearm can have a bolt having a plurality of locking lugs that are configured to have a shear area that is at least approximately 1.3 times that of a standard M16/M4. A piston can be formed on the bolt and can have a plurality of rings that are configured to cooperate with the piston to mitigate gas leakage past the piston. Each of the rings can have a key formed thereon and a gap formed therein such that the gap of one ring is configured to receive at least a portion of the key of another ring. The bolt carrier can have a double cut cam.

Firearm

A firearm with slide takedown mechanism and method for use is disclosed. In one embodiment, the firearm includes a frame, barrel, trigger and a reciprocating slide. A takedown lever is pivotably mounted to the firearm and engageable with the slide. In a first blocking position, the takedown lever engages and blocks the rearward path of the slide which is not movable beyond a first position. In a second unblocking position, the takedown lever is pivoted laterally outwards from the frame and disengages the slide. The rearward path of the slide is no longer blocked which may be moved to a second rearward removal position enabling a user to remove the slide and field strip the firearm. In one embodiment, the takedown lever is disposed underneath the frame. The firearm may be a semi-automatic pistol in some embodiments.

A striker-fired firearm with lockable manual safety and method of use. The firearm in one embodiment includes a frame, a chamber for receiving a cartridge, a striker movable to strike the cartridge, a trigger movably mounted to the frame, a trigger bar coupled to the trigger and operable to engage and release the striker to discharge the firearm, a manually-operated safety adapted to engage the trigger bar and selectively movable between a first deactivated position and a second activated position wherein the safety engages the trigger bar to prevent release of the striker, and a cylindrical locking member rotationally disposed in the frame. In one embodiment, the locking member, which may be a lock pin in some embodiments, includes a blocking surface that is engageable with the safety. The blocking surface is rotatable to a blocking position wherein the safety cannot be moved from the second activated position to the first deactivated position by a user. In one embodiment, the blocking surface projects into a slot and engages a protrusion on the safety to block the movement of the safety. Preferably, the locking member is key-operated.

Lockable safety for striker-fired firearm

A slide catch-ejector assembly for an autoloading firearm. An embodiment of a firearm having a slide catch-ejector assembly includes a housing, a slide slidably mounted on the housing for rearward and forward axial movement, and an assembly having a slide catch portion configured for engaging the slide and an ejector portion configured for ejecting cartridge casings from the firearm. In one embodiment, the assembly is selectively movable in the housing between a deactivated position in which the slide catch portion is not engageable with the slide and an activated position in which the slide catch portion is engageable with the slide. The ejector portion is selectively movable into and out of axial alignment with a chamber that receives a cartridge via moving the assembly between the deactivated and activated positions.

Slide catch-ejector assembly for firearm

A firearm with reversible backstrap and method of use. The firearm in one embodiment includes a frame defining a grip and a cavity therein, and a backstrap insert that is removably positioned in the cavity. The insert includes first and second backstrap grip surfaces that are each respectively disposed on opposite portions of the backstrap insert, such as a front portion and a rear portion in one embodiment. Preferably, the second backstrap grip surface is different than the first grip surface in some characteristic, such as thickness, profile or shape, material of construction, surface texture, etc. In one embodiment, the position of the insert may be reversed in the frame to selectively reverse the orientation of the first and second grip surfaces between front-facing and rear-facing in some embodiments to provide a user with a choice of grip surfaces. In some embodiments, this allows the user to change the grip depth of the firearm.

Reversible backstrap for firearm

A striker-fired firearm with field stripping mechanism and method. A striker-fired firearm generally includes a frame, a slide supported by the frame for longitudinal forward and rearward movement, a striker axially movable in a path of travel along a longitudinal axis, a trigger pivotably connected to the frame, a trigger bar movably coupled to the trigger and adapted to engage the striker, and a trigger bar camming member pivotably disposed in the frame and defining a camming surface engaged by the trigger bar. Pivoting the camming member moves the trigger bar from a first position to a second position in spatial relationship to the striker. In a preferred embodiment, the camming member is an ejector operable to expel spent cartridge casings from the firearm.

Striker-fired firearm

A pistol including a loaded chamber indicator to identify the presence of a cartridge loaded in the firing chamber. The pistol may generally include a barrel, a receiver attached to the barrel thereby defining a barrel-receiver assembly, and a chamber associated with the barrel-receiver assembly. An indicating element is provided which in one embodiment may be pivotally mounted in the barrel-receiver assembly. The indicating element is displaceable in response to contact by the cartridge from a first position which may in one embodiment correspond to an absence of a cartridge loaded in the chamber, to a second position which may in one embodiment correspond to a presence of a cartridge loaded in the chamber. A biasing member, such as a spring, may be provided to bias the indicating element towards the first position. In one embodiment, the indicating element protrudes outwards from the exterior of the pistol in response to contact by the cartridge rim to provide a visual and tactile indication of a loaded chamber condition to a user of the pistol.

Method for indicating loaded firearm chamber

An autoloading pistol with a magazine disconnect mechanism that blocks discharge of the pistol when the magazine is removed by action upon the pistol's firing pin. The pistol may generally include a removable magazine, a housing defining a chamber to hold a cartridge, and a firing pin movable towards the chamber. The magazine disconnect mechanism includes a blocking member which may be movably disposed in the housing, and is movable into and out of engagement with the firing pin. In one embodiment, an actuator may be provided that controls the position of the blocking member and is movable in response to the insertion and removal of the magazine from the pistol. The actuator in a possible first position disengages the blocking member from the firing pin when the magazine is inserted in the pistol to allow the pistol to be discharged. The actuator in a possible second position engages the blocking member with the firing pin when the magazine is removed from the pistol to prevent the firing pin from moving forward toward the chamber. In one embodiment, the actuator may be an ejector that also ejects spent cartridges from the pistol after discharging the pistol.
