In at least one embodiment, an active noise cancellation (ANC) system is provided. The ANC system includes at least one loudspeaker, at least one microphone and at least one controller. The at least one loudspeaker projects anti-noise sound within a cabin of a vehicle based at least on an anti-noise signal. The at least one microphone provides an error signal indicative of noise and the anti-noise sound within the cabin. The at least one controller is programmed to receive the error signal and a reference signal indicative of a gear shift that occurs over a predetermined time interval and to adapt at least one adaptive filter with pre-stored filter coefficients for the predetermined time interval to generate the anti-noise signal based at least on the error signal and the reference signal.

Apparatus, system, and method for providing a fast-acting engine order cancellation

An active noise cancellation (ANC) system may include an adaptive filter divergence detector for detecting divergence of the one or more controllable filters as they adapt, based on dynamically adapted thresholds. Upon detection of a controllable filter divergence, the ANC system may be deactivated, or certain speakers may be muted. Alternatively, the ANC system may modify the diverged controllable filters to restore proper operation of the noise cancelling system.

A sensor is configured to infer a rotational speed of a tire of a vehicle. A frequency generator is configured to synthesize frequencies of a tire cavity resonance according to the rotational speed of the tire to generate a sense signal. An active noise control filter is configured to generate an antinoise signal from the sense signal. A loudspeaker configured to convert the antinoise signal into antinoise and to radiate the antinoise to a listening position. The antinoise signal is configured so that the antinoise reduces sound of the tire cavity resonance at the listening position.

Method and apparatus for a low cost, acoustic tire cavity resonance cancellation

A system and method for accurately estimating engine noise at a virtual microphone location, such as an occupant's ear position, in an acoustic space in order to enhance performance of an Engine Order Cancellation (EOC) system is provided. A set of weights and transfer functions that are dependent on various vehicle parameters, such as frequency, load, and speed, may be employed to estimate noise at a position where there are no physical microphones present. The accurate estimation of engine noise at virtual location, such as an occupant's ear position, may be achieved using a frequency dependent weighted sum of filtered and unfiltered error signals measured at microphones mounted at various locations inside an acoustic space, such as a vehicle cabin, which may not be located near virtual location.

A road noise cancellation (RNC) system may include a controller and attenuator for reducing the audibility of the noise floor caused by the system's vibration sensors. A level of anti-noise at a location in a passenger cabin that may be attributed to the sensor noise floor may be estimated. An actual sound level in the passenger cabin may be measured or estimated, with the sensor noise floor component algorithmically removed. The difference in levels may be compared to a predetermined threshold to determine an amount of attenuation, if any, to be applied to an anti-noise signal to reduce audibility.

Reducing audibility of sensor noise floor in a road noise cancellation system

A vehicle system is provided that includes a sound augmentation system with a sound augmentation generator that produces an augmented audio output to drive at least one audio output based on a transfer function. The vehicle system also includes a sound augmentation system health monitor that determines a current performance level of the sound augmentation system based on at least one audio input and a feedback of the augmented audio output, and triggers a transfer function update prompt based on a difference between the current performance level and an expected performance level being at a threshold level. A user interface outputs the transfer function update prompt and receives a transfer function calibration request in response to the transfer function update prompt. A transfer function calibration module drives a calibration sequence on at least one audio output and monitors at least one audio input to determine an updated transfer function.

Systems and methods to cancel noise in a vehicle are disclosed. A first speaker is positioned forward of a steering wheel of a vehicle. The first speaker generates a first signal configured to acoustically cancel noise produced by operation of the vehicle. A second speaker is positioned forward of the steering wheel. The second speaker generates a second signal to acoustically cancel the noise produced by the operation of the vehicle.
