Embodiments include a bar for a chain saw that is equipped with one or more oil channels that run along the length of the bar. Each oil channel receives oil at a first end, which exits the oil channel at an oil exit aperture at a second end of the channel. The oil exit aperture of one of the channels is positioned along the side of a bar groove, through which runs the saw chain, proximate to the cutting area of the bar to lubricate the saw chain just prior to the cutting area. A second channel may have an oil exit aperture proximate to the nose of the bar, to lubricate a sprocket wheel in the nose of the bar.

Targeted oil delivery for chain saw bars

Embodiments herein describe presets for saw chains comprised of one or more rivets that are coupled to a tiestrap. Each rivet may further comprise a central flange and a hub protruding from opposed sides from the flange. In some embodiments, the hub may be non-concentric from the flange, and the flange may be non-circular, such as ovoid or cam-shaped. In some embodiments, various portions of the flange, rivet, and tiestrap may be selectively hardened to various degrees of hardness, depending upon their location and usage. In some embodiments, the rivets may be prevented from rotating with respect to the tiestrap using a brazing process, and may be configured to facilitate such processes. Other embodiments may employ a non-circular hub. Still other embodiments may use a low-temperature process for soldering that does not affect the hardness of the tiestrap or rivet.

A method of performing maintenance on a printhead of an imaging device includes the detection of at least one contaminated ink jet in a printhead. A first pressure is applied to ink in the printhead in response to the detection of the at least one contaminated ink jet. The first pressure is configured to prevent ink from entering a plurality of apertures in an aperture plate of the printhead and to prevent ink from drooling from the plurality of apertures unless the apertures are wiped by a wiper blade. A first portion of apertures in the plurality of apertures in the aperture plate is wiped with a wiper blade while leaving a second portion of the apertures untouched by the wiper blade while the first pressure is applied to the ink in the printhead. The wiping of the first portion of apertures enables ink to drool from the first portion of apertures. The first portion of apertures includes the at least one detected contaminated ink jet.

Selective purging of ink jets to limit purge mass

A method increases the ability of a controller in a printer to detect weak or missing inkjets in the printer. The method includes generating a test pattern having at least twice as much ink as a typical test pattern used to detect weak or missing inkjets. The increased ink appropriately stresses inkjets to facilitate detection of weak or missing inkjets and the test pattern is transferred to media and removed from the printer to preserve the capacity of a drum maintenance unit to store residual ink removed from an imaging drum or belt.

System and method for enhancing detection of weak and missing inkjets in an inkjet printer

A printhead for use in an imaging device includes a reservoir configured to receive ink from an ink source. An aperture plate includes a plurality of ink jet apertures at a first location in the aperture plate and a plurality of recycling apertures at a second location in the aperture plate. The printhead includes a plurality of ink jets, each ink jet being configured to receive ink from the reservoir and to reject ink through one of the ink jet apertures in the aperture plate, and a plurality of channels, each channel being configured to fluidly couple one of the recycling apertures in the aperture plate to the reservoir. A pressure source is coupled to the reservoir that is configured to generate a pressure in the reservoir.

Waste phase change ink recycling

A method of performing maintenance on a printhead of an imaging device includes the application of a purge pressure to ink in an on-board reservoir of the printhead to cause ink to be burped through a plurality of apertures in an aperture plate of the printhead. A wiper blade is then dabbed on the aperture plate at least once after the application of the purge pressure. After the dabbing, the wiper blade is drawn across the aperture plate. The wiper blade is then dabbed against the dabbing position at least once after wiping the aperture plate.

External particle mitigation without exceeding drooling limitations

A drip bib for use with a printhead of an imaging device includes a plate having an upper surface having an upper edge, an intermediate surface angled with respect to the upper surface, and a lower edge. The intermediate surface includes a plurality of fastener openings. The lower edge includes a drip point projecting from the lower edge with remaining portions of the lower edge being upturned and angled downwardly from at least one end of the lower edge toward the drip point. A plurality of protrusions protrudes from a back side of the upper surface. The protrusions in the plurality of protrusions are spaced from each other and proximate the upper edge.

Directed flow drip bib for printhead with three point contact

A method and apparatus are provided for cleaning a first set and a second set of a staggered full-width array printhead assembly (SFWA) in an inkjet printer. The apparatus for the method includes (a) a wiper blade carriage assembly (WBCA) having a wiper blade unit at a first set point; (b) a timing belt and a stepper motor assembly for moving the WBCA between a home position and a number of operating positions; (c) devices for moving the first and second sets of printheads between resting positions and a wiping positions; (d) computer programs for controlling movements (i) of the WBCA from the home position into wiping contact with, and past, the first and second sets of printheads in first and second wiping positions respectively, (ii) of the first and second sets of printheads out of the wiping positions, and (iii) of the WBCA from the wiping positions back to the home position; and (e) apparatus for horizontally moving and re-aligning the wiper blade unit on the WBCA at a second set point for wiping the second set of printheads.

Cleaning method and apparatus for a printhead assembly

A printhead is provided that includes a waste ink drip bib located adjacent to the lower edge of the printhead face and includes a funnel structure to direct the flow of waste ink to a centrally located lower opening.
