Systems and techniques are provided for optimizing the performance of a target for a downhole neutron generator. An example method can include disposing a first source material and a first substrate in a vacuum chamber at an initial temperature, evaporating the first source material to be deposited onto a surface of the first substrate, monitoring a temperature of the first substrate during the evaporation of the first source material, and determining a thermal equilibrium process temperature at which the temperature of the first substrate is stabilized. The example method can further include disposing a second source material and a second substrate in the vacuum chamber at the thermal equilibrium process temperature, evaporating the second source material to be deposited onto a surface of the second substrate, and obtaining the second substrate deposited with the second source material for a target of a downhole neutron generator.

Optimization of a target of a downhole neutron generator

A method of coating an interior surface of a housing defining a volume includes partitioning the volume into a first zone and a second zone, the first zone isolated from fluid communication with the second zone; introducing one or more reactant gases, plasma, ions, or a combination thereof to the first zone and the second zone; and forming one or more coating layers on all or a portion of the interior surface within the first and second zones via reaction of the reactant gases, the plasma, or the combination thereof. A device for coating an interior surface of a housing is also provided.

Depositing coatings on and within a housing, apparatus, or tool using a coating system positioned therein

Systems and methods of separating multiphase flows in a flowline of a downhole fluid sampling and analysis tool, measuring target ions in the water phase, and separating between formation water and injection water are described. The system to separate the multiphase flows includes a three-dimensional barrier permeable to water and repelling oil and/or drilling mud filtrate into at least one bypass channel within the flowline of the downhole fluid sampling and analysis tool. For instance, the system to measure the targeted ions includes the system to separate the multiphase flows and an optical sensor, wherein the three-dimensional barrier has an aperture inside the three-dimensional barrier to let a light from an optical sensor go through perpendicular to the flowline.

Optical detection of ION water chemistry in oil and water

A device for coating an interior surface of a housing defining a volume comprising a plurality of reactant gas sources including reactant gases for one or more surface coating processes; first and second closures to sealingly engage with an inlet and outlet of the volume of the housing to provide an enclosed volume; a delivery line fluidically coupled to the first closure and the plurality of reactant gas sources to deliver the reactant gases to the enclosed volume; and an output line fluidically coupled to the second closure to remove one or more reactant gases, byproduct gases, or both from the enclosed volume. Systems and methods are provided for facilitating continuous affinity-based separation of phases in multi-phase formation fluid in a downhole environment. A system can comprise a formation sampler that samples a formation to gather multi-phase formation fluid in a continuous flow through a wellbore during a testing pump out of the formation. The system can also comprise a phase separator comprising one or more affinity-based separators that continuously separates one or more phases of the multi-phase formation fluid through either or both diffusion or flow while downhole in the wellbore during the testing pump out.

A coating system for coating an interior surface of a housing comprising: first and second closures engaging first and second ends, respectively, of the housing to provide an enclosed volume; first and second flow lines coupled to the first and second closures, respectively, the first flow line and/or the second flow line connected to an inert gas source; a reactant gas source(s) comprising a reactant gas and coupled to the first and/or second flow line; and a controller in electronic communication with the reactant gas and inert gas sources, and configured to control flow of inert gas into the enclosed volume, and counter current injection of reactant gas from the reactant gas source(s) into the enclosed volume whereby introduction of pulse(s) of the reactant gas into the enclosed volume are separated by introduction of inert gas into the enclosed volume, and coating layer(s) are deposited on the interior surface.

Depositing coatings on and within housings, apparatus, or tools utilizing counter current flow of reactants

A coating system for coating, with a surface coating process, an interior surface of a housing defining an interior volume, having: a first closure and a second closure to sealingly engage with the housing; one or more first flow lines and second flow lines fluidically coupled to the first and second closure, respectively; a pressurized cell comprising a pressurized gas comprising at least one reactant and at a pressure of greater than a pressure within the housing, wherein the pressurized cell is fluidically coupled to a pressurized cell line comprising one of the first flow lines or second flow lines; and a controller in electronic communication with the pressurized cell and configured to control injection of a pulse of the pressurized gas into a flow of inert gas in the pressurized cell line, whereby the pulse is introduced into the interior volume, coating the interior surface with a coating layer.

Depositing coatings on and within housings, apparatus, or tools utilizing pressurized cells

A method and system for identifying scale. The method may include disposing a fluid sampling tool into a wellbore. The fluid sampling tool may comprise at least one probe configured to fluidly connect the fluid sampling tool to a formation in the wellbore and at least one passageway that passes through the at least one probe and into the fluid sampling tool. The method may further comprise drawing a formation fluid, as a fluid sample, through the at least one probe and through the at least one passageway, perturbing the formation fluid, and analyzing the fluid sample in the fluid sampling tool for one or more indications of scale.

Inorganic scale detection or scaling potential downhole

A method and system for performing a pressure test. The method may include inserting a formation testing tool into a wellbore to a first location within the wellbore based at least in part on a figure of merit. The formation testing tool may include at least one probe, a pump disposed within the formation testing tool and connect to the at least one probe by at least one probe channel and at least one fluid passageway, and at least one stabilizer disposed on the formation testing tool. The method may further include activating the at least one stabilizer, wherein the at least one stabilizer is activated into a surface of the wellbore and performing the pressure test and determining at least one formation property from the pressure test.

Performing a downhole pressure test

A model is used to generate corrections to mitigate ideal condition artifacts in acoustic property values of an annular material in a cased wellbore. A mathematical model that generates acoustic property values at ideal conditions introduces artifacts into the acoustic property values. Acoustic measurements of an annular material are used to generate features that represent wellbore conditions and are not accounted for in the mathematical model that generates acoustic property values. A model will generate corrections for acoustic property values of an annular material with the features to yield a more accurate acoustic property profile for the annular material of a cased hole.

Model-based corrections to acoustic property values of annular material to mitigate ideal artifacts

Embodiments of a device, system and method are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a device comprises a sample cell configured to interact a fluid sample with an ion selective substrate to modify an optical characteristic of the ion selective substrate according to an ion concentration of the fluid sample, wherein the sample cell is also configured to optically interact an illumination light with the ion selective substrate to generate a sample light; an optical element configured to interact with the sample light to provide a modified light that has a property of the fluid sample; and a detector that receives the modified light and provides an electrical signal proportional to the property of the fluid sample indicated by the modified light; and wherein the ion selective substrate comprises a membrane, the membrane configured to change an optical property in a selected wavelength range, according to the property of the fluid sample.

System and methods for downhole property measurement

A method comprises determining an adaptive fluid predictive model calibrated with a plurality of types of sensor data, wherein the plurality of types of sensor responses comprise a first type of sensor response associated with a synthetic parameter space and a second type of sensor response associated with a tool parameter space. The method comprises applying the adaptive fluid predictive model to one or more fluid samples from field measurements obtained from a tool deployed in a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation and determining a value of a fluid answer product prediction with the applied adaptive fluid predictive model. The method comprises facilitating a wellbore operation with the tool based on the value of the fluid answer product prediction.

Optical sensor adaptive calibration

Methods and systems for implementing and utilizing radiometric characterization in combination with reference material characterization of an optical sensor to more accurately and efficiently measure material properties are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method for for optically measuring material properties includes an optical sensor being radiometrically characterized based on measured optical responses. A model is generated and includes model components of the optical sensor. A parameterized model is generated by fitting n variable parameters of the model components using the optical responses. The optical sensor is utilized to measure an optical response to a reference material and a re-parameterized model is generated by re-fitting m of the n variable parameters of the model components based, at least in part, on the measured optical response to the reference material, wherein m is less than n.
